I live in Tucson AZ. EVERYBODY here remembers this epic fail. Geraldo is a U of A alumni and has family here. He wont show his face publicly in Tucson because he knows we stand ready to this day to help him shave his mustache because we're still pissed at him for not shaving it off like he promised if this Capone thing was a bust.
I was a senior in high school when this aired.I was dating an Italian Catholic boy with the last name Rocco short for LaRocco. His great grandmother, great grandfather, and all the way down the family tree to lil cousin Mary Catherine they all gathered in one room to watch this .All them were “tulken “ over each “eudder “ in such suspense! I’m a very sarcastic gemini so you know I had a grand ole time “wit dis” event! That plac3 was louder then the Van Halen concert I seen the night before! When Geraldo found out”nutten “ ,all the Italians started hollering and stomping around with hands a flying with every word! I’ve never been so scared or so entertained at the same time! So “freegen ” classic! Real life Sopranos! Love it!
When I was a kid, for a solid month everyone kept on saying "what's in Al Capone's vaults, what's in Al Capone's vaults?" It was so bad that when you met someone new you didn't ask them to tell you anything about themselves, instead you asked them "what's in Al Capone's vaults?" Then my mom, dad, and I sat there watching that 2 hour show on the edges of our seats and then when they didn't find anything, my mom and I were pissed and my dad thought it was funny. Everyone who went around saying "there's nothing in Al Capone's vaults" suddenly looked like geniuses. From that moment on and to this day I hate Geraldo Rivera.
Atleast TV was still "reality TV" back then. They hadn't learned to fake everything yet. Now days, they would've already put gold bars, jimmy Hoffa and a Tiger Woods autograph from the future in there. But they didn't even get a empty vault, they got ... DIRT lol Sorry Heraldo !
I remember sitting with my famiky, rivited to the TV. At the end, I felt sorry for Geraldo. It wasn't his fault. Everyone wanted to see inside. Kinda sad. Yes, we were still pissed. Lol!
He had a great career a trusted reporter and then this happened I never heard about him since 😢 the one thing good about this was the history I learned
0:49 you picked the wrong footage! The clip you used was from the the three mile island accident that not only happend in america instead of ukraine but also took place on the 28. of march 1979. The chernobyl nuclear reactor disaster took place on the 26. of april 1986 near prypiat in the Ukraine! please check your facts next time!
I don't understand what all of the griping and picking is about, nobody knew what would be in there if anything but at least they tried. He never said that there was anything in there, he said it like it was "We don't know!"
Geraldo maintained his dignity and likability and I felt compassion for his embarrassment. In contrast, the smart-assed narrator is sarcastic to the point of becoming obnoxious.
Geraldo acts and does a lot of things that most people just talk about. It was a great clip except for the young narrator who wanted to throw in a dig at Geraldo whenever he could! Long live Geraldo!
Wherever Al Capone is, he's still laughing and laughing away.
Haha I don't doubt it.
I remember watching this live. It was like going to a birthday party, where the host forgets to fill the piñata. Womp womp.
Hahaha that’s a pretty solid analogy.
I loved it. It was a bit of a history lesson
I remember the 80's just as if they were yesterday. Oh how I'd love to go back.
It’s funny how time flies. For me it’s the ‘90s. I keep thinking that was a decade ago…
I was 16 and as a lifelong Chicagoan, I remember this like it was yesterday.
You know what, anything that brings people together can’t be all that bad.
Great video, probably the best look back at this event that I've seen. Looking forward to more content!
30 million viewers, the entire country was watching that as it unfolded live...and then nothing...

🎶There was nothing in Al Capones vault but it wasn’t Geraldos fault, d’oh!🎶
Haha 😂
Good Job 👌
This wasnt a fail. We know now what was not in the vault.
ABC set Geraldo up!
Oooh I like this conspiracy!
I was so disappointed there was nothing in there!😢
Right? I found it more funny that it ended up not even being a vault, but just a wall lol
I remember this show on independent TV.

That’s Respect off the bat
Remember it live
You have to give Geraldo credit. He didn’t fake anything about not knowing what was in the vault.
Now they would open it up before - take a look and then act like it was live.
Frankly if I was old enough at the time I would’ve been locked in, as well.
Me too :P
He had a great career a trusted reporter and then this happened I never heard about him since 😢 the one thing good about this was the history I learned
And was this the last time anyone ever did anything “for the first time live?” Lol.
This is kind of like the Mandela effect. I watched this live and I distinctly remember Geraldo tossing down the mic before walking away
Oh that would have been great!

I’m going to draw this up to it being my first video :P oopsie.

Sharknado 5 brought me here
Hilarious stuff. Geraldo with a machine gun.....😄
6:40 actually no explosives and fire arms take the same licenses (ffls)
Geraldo maintained his dignity and likability and I felt compassion for his embarrassment. In contrast, the smart-assed narrator is sarcastic to the point of becoming obnoxious.
You almost start feeling sorry for the guy!
Geraldo acts and does a lot of things that most people just talk about. It was a great clip except for the young narrator who wanted to throw in a dig at Geraldo whenever he could! Long live Geraldo!
Huh? Fuck Geraldo
@@wolfwang8464 Hub?? Funk Wang!
Like he couldn’t have paid that in 1931
and Geraldo's career never recovered!
Ignored the last few minutes did ya? His career skyrocketed.
800,000
waaaayyyy too many one-liners I want to actually hear whats going on
You’re welcome.
the biggest clickbait of all time
YEAH!!? I REMEMBER 2HRS OF NOTHING OFF MY LIFESPAN .lol 8yrs old and remembered wanting to beat up Geraldo.
"Fan boys over the bobcat"? Fan boys are male fans in an audience and bobcat is a brand name. Its called a skid-steer
He was too humiliated.
Nothing in the vault just like Geraldo’s head 🤡
“Remember when” is the lowest form of conversation.
Wonder if they were exposed to asbestos…..
Lmao
Is that how President Biden will end up. Trying to catch fish out of a swimming pool?
Lmao you believed Geraldo
Why don't you comment on the video 5 times ?! I'm sure someone will notice you lol oh wait, you did...
