yes! not only utilizing a simple, efficient, and affordable way to water the garden, but also not pissing away drinking water on plants that don't even really like it as much as they like rainwater! great video - thanks for the demonstration!
I was watering my rosemary outside with tap water from inside. After two weeks I began to wonder why the rosemary was drying up. I had been watering it and it had plenty of direct sunlight. Then it started raining for two days and before you know it my rosemary was back to it’s green color. Point is rain water is more preferable for your garden.
John Critser i have a small lawn and the 4 work well. much bigger and i would go for 5 or 6. check out the recent video add on toilet tank. ruclips.net/video/imXumttti3M/видео.html
Dang that's a lot cheaper than i thought, I watched till the end expecting to see the cost be a few grand, surprised those water bins are only $80 each, I figured one of those would be like $300 at least. Great video!

cool Brother! My only concern is where you have the gutter piece resting on the screen. A big wind in a storm might dislodge that? Is it a worry or does it fit pretty snugly?
This is very cool! City of Chicago is giving out two free rain barrels per home, so I just ordered mine. Can't wait to get them up and running for next spring! Do you have to hook up the pump each time you want to run the sprinkler or do you leave it connected and outside? Seems like it might be damaged by the elements, but I can't tell.
lol Sorry for late reply. I do remove the pump in the winter. In the summer the pump is under the roof overhang. I still intend to build a small box around it for elements and security. =] i would strongly suggest much more than 100 gallons if you wish to water lawn.
+Electronics4life If you pause the video at 1:00 you can see each piece. From the bottom... 4 inch clean out on the bottom, 4 inch piece couple feet long. Then a 3 inch to 2 inch reducer to hold the ball in. And then add the 4 inch to 3 inch tee. I wouldn't worry about a drip on bottom or the stick i put in there to drain. After a good rain you just unscrew a little to drip it out. hope that helps.
+bwaysinkc that does help. I am in the process of designing my first flush system. Your video is also the first video I found that put the IBC totes under a deck like I plan to eventually do.
It kinda hooks on the screen. The filtration and moving of the water is the challenge. Overcoming them all though. couple vids coming soon on all. rain barrel toilet tank is the big one. hopefully by the end of the year. take care b.
How many kW are you using with the 1hp pump? How long do you run the pump per week? I'm wondering what the electrical costs are. I'm thinking of doing this with my shed roof and garden next year (hopefully).
+Stephen White With the cost of water in the Midwest, I estimate the cost of running the pump to be about .104 or 10.4 cents an hour. And usually would run it once a week if i could, but we had a lot of rain this year and i didn't need to water that much.
There is a way to break down the cost with watts from the pump. i think my neighbor did the numbers for me years ago and it wasn't much. I usually run the pump 40 min to exhaust the 4 totes (which hold 1100 gal) (thats worth $22 in water at 2 cents a gallon). Ill ask neighbor again and see if i can get another reply to ya. =]
Thanks for showing your setup. Really helpful for folks who are figuring this out

Beautifully done video! Thank you!
absolutely the answer I was looking for with respect to lawn watering via rain barrels! thanks!

How long can water sit in the storage containers and do you put anything in them to treat it? Great video!
i use it fairly soon but occasionally will treat with mosquito pellets.
Do you have any more details about your DIY first flush system? Things like parts used, etc.

Hi everyone, I'm a little lost on what the first flush system is for in this type of irrigation system?
It kinda hooks on the screen. The filtration and moving of the water is the challenge. Overcoming them all though. couple vids coming soon on all. rain barrel toilet tank is the big one. hopefully by the end of the year. take care b.

+bwaysinkc Thanks! We get a good amount of rain but, the mid summer has the tendency to be dry at times.
+Stephen White I am aiming for 4 more totes next year to maximize capture. Overflow ran many times.
+Russell B . Thanks! Easy enough.
any estimate on the electricity to run pumps?

Found it downt the page in a reply. cost of running the pump to be about .104 or 10.4 cents an hour
Where to buy the water tank?
I would look on craigslist. I would look to pay $80-$120 and try to find a non toxic. Used for all sorts of liquids for food industry and on farms.
