I've been using Blender for years now, just goofing around for fun, and recently I decided to try modeling scenes for the first time. This channel has really been a huge help. Thank you so much for all the time and effort you put in.
No worries, Kurt! I am glad it was just the right speed :) Trial and error is always good because of all the different things you learn as part of the journey. Keep it up!

El método más sencillo que hemos repetido en otros videos y que definitivamente debe ser la guía para hacer este tipo de estructuras porque es fácil y muy rápido de hacer
First 14 minutes of work can be done using a Single cube and 3 modifiers (Bevel + Array modifier + Simple Deform). 180 degree bend for top part, use limits for both side pillars (so only middle part bends).
Well all I can say is this is aimed at beginners sure there are faster ways of doing something but I think learning the basics first is better than jumping straight in with modifiers. Just my opinion ofc but I respect your feed back :)
This is exactly what I needed! I'm going to model a castle based off of Edwardian architecture so it's alittle different in style but with the same techniques. :D Thank you! Liked and sub'd
Glad I could help, Cade! I've experimented a bit with Edwardian architecture also but I keep being drawn back to the Tudor Era personally. Feel free to share what you model with me on social media - it would be great to see the outcome :)
@@3DTudor I'll definitely show you once I get to a finished product. I'm actually doing this model 1)to practice with Blender and 2) for an illustration. And I will not lie, I am not an architect lol. So this will be quite the challenge. :D But only one way to learn, right? Tudor architecture is gorgeous. And it also explains your name lol
@@cadef1738, perfect! I look forward to it. Doing a project and fully committing to it certainly helps when you're trying to learn a new piece of software. That's a very good approach to take. Of course, don't worry, neither of us are architects. We learn from trying this, as you say. What I would suggest, for Edwardian architecture, specially with wood and stone, it might be useful to look at some Edwardian furniture with decals or carvings. They often use the same designs in their architecture :)
Hi. I have a really weird problem. Around 3:19. I am trying to extrude via scale as you did but I keep creating a copy of the arch and that moves as I scale. Now step by step. I hover over arch and press L tab for edit mode I make sure median point is selected press S and not matter what axis I press I just create a copy and that moves. Any ideas ?
This might have been asked but you use shift space to activate move tool and when I do it it activates the time line frames maybe I am missing something since I have space set up for search in Preferences any help will be appreciated
Great tutorial! I made everything and then I realized that the surface onto which I wanted to place the door is curved. Is there any way I can tweak this door so that it naturally fits on a curved wall?
Hey I am just learning to do all of this but its seems like trying to follow you along is really difficult. There are problems that are coming up even if I do exactly hat you are doing, as well some of the functions you do arent working for me. -When you click 4 times to grab all of the edges around 5:27 -When I tried to flatten out the curve in the arch it didnt select all of the edges and left the door looking weird -When I click cntrl r to insert the loops they only applied to one side of my pillar Do you have any insight as to why I am not able to do this exactly as you are doing it? are there any settings I have to adjust to follow this guide along?
Yo, got same problem. i was like: How did he do that??? Searched for some answers here, nothing. Then, i tried to do it myself clicking the edge and pushing different buttons at the same time. ITS "ALT". press alt and click on the edge. DONE. good luck
Here I´m learning the basics. Very helpful, though I have some issues. The "fill holes" function didn`t work (blender 2.9). Any idea? Also bevel modif. didn`t work after marking seams. (After one hour...)Ok, seems I had several double vertices, I think that was the problem.
I found a solution to this problem. I had a similar problem - "fill holes" didn't work. All you have to do is use "merge by distance" and then "fill holes" and everything should work fine :)
from what Ganreder said which I think is very helpful btw so thanks for that. The issue is likely caused with extrusion and not pulling the part out and just leaving it :)
At about 12:18 you apply a bevel modifier. I'm using Blender 2.90.0 and for some reason my edges don't bevel. Can you confirm that the approach works with 2.9? When I create a cube and apply a bevel modifier it works so I may have accidentally messed up my cylinder
@@3DTudor CTRL + A brings up the Apply menu. Applying all transforms doesn't help. Although I tried selecting all the edges in edit mode and using the bevel tool - that worked. I'll try installing the version you are using (2.8) and hopefully I won't get stuck like this again.
Hey I've tried following this a couple times but when I get to making the loop cuts on the frame, the loopcuts only go half way around the strutcture and not the whole thing, I used the knife tool instead but it didn't allow me to use the fill holes option correctly afterwards.
Hi Fettman this is because somewhere along the line your edges have a break in the and is not a clean mesh. Click very select and you will see extra verts once these are cleaned up there will be np with loop cuts ;)

I'm excited to see you do the shading
This will most probably be in part 3 I decided on this one to make the lessons just a little shorter so people do not loose concentration :)
Just my speed. Thanks for tutorial. Took me forever due to odd exploratory diversions, but I guess that's a good thing.

You bet!
Next time you want so scale out something give ALT-S a try. This prevents from doing the cleanup thing ;-)
Thanks for the series :-)
Thanks for the tip! We learn new things every day, thanks Pete :)
You can scale (transform) by 2 of 3 dimensions by Shift + X, Y, or Z (the one not to use). Ctrl + I inverts selection
Theres always more to learn and everybody has a different work flow ;)
way to go man
Thanks Donovan :)

I don't understand why mine doesn't bevel
Dont worry happens all the time :) open bevel modifier go down to geometry - open - untick clamp overlap - reduce bevel = done jobs a good one :)

How did you level the edges? @ 4:20
I usually do it by eye, manually moving the edges up, until the edge in the middle is completely horizontal

nothing happened when i selected bevel mod, what did i do wrong
