LYRICS:
4 AM, I'm on my way
Working on the railroad to earn my pay
All day long I strike and pound
as I DRIVE DRIVE DRIVE those stakes into the ground
Every day the same old thing
Same old heavy hammer that I go swing
Massive throbbing in my brain
and it's It's DRIVE DRIVE DRIVING me insane!
All in all I'm just another
Cog in the machine
All my life I slave for a
Reward that's never seen|
Doubt that I'll get out of here
But Lord knows I can dream
Something more than being just
Another cog in the machine
"Carry on" is what they say
Telling us we'll see our labor's fruits one day
Soon this rail will take men far
As they DRIVE DRIVE DRIVE those big box cars
So we work to pave the way
A better tomorrow but a harsh today
Still I fail to see the light
As we DRIVE DRIVE DRIVE all through the night!
All in all I'm just another
cog in the machine
All my life I slave for a
Reward that's never seen
I can't keep from wondering just
What does it all mean
Something more than being just
Another cog in the machine
All in all I'm just another
cog in the machine
We can't all be royalty
Or grace the silver screen
I was born to be another
Cog in the machine
Caring for my family
On me they all can lean
Working hard but living for
The moments in between
In the end each one of us is
Just a cog in the machine
Everyone questioning the man driving stakes into the ground with his sword but at least he had something to use, everyone else was either using their fists or a rock
They all missed the little "BYOH" at the bottom of the contract.
poor guy wore the tip off his sword.
If you look the others have a rock in their hands which makes more sense then a sword.
I genuinely was about to comment how the foreman was the only guy with an actual hammer- the tool you need for the job
That's because hands heal, and stones are plentiful and cheap, but chipping that sword is a real shame.
Don't you just love the random people staring at him while he passes by?
I was at WWWC when this was filmed a while back and I would like to apologise for my mom yelling at you guys to stop in your tracks so she could take a picture while you guys were recording 😂
Haha, no worries! 😄
@@thecogisdead I just found you guys and I am so glad I did why cant more people do good music
Holly hell, I feel sorry for you man
Wait where is this place they recorded this at?
@@TheDefiantPirate I'd like to know that too.
Instructions unclear, cog stuck in toaster
Despite all my rage I'm still just, another cog in the machine
wait. if the cog is dead, and they're a cog in the machine. .. Zombie!
+Wanderingsage7 XD Brilliant! that made me laugh
Zombie automatons? That's Steam Powered Giraffe's material.
@@EllAntares SPG mentioned
What I love about steampunk videos is the creative design of there outfits
That railroad boss looks like a Mad Max villain.
AeonStar1 i thought that to
what if he IS the mad-max villain?
i want his teeth
They all look like Final fantasy characters captured by the bad guys and put to work in the mines.
Wasn't that in the plot of any of them?
Yep, and now he's a villain in a steampunk city in my ttrpg
can we appreciate the one dude just driving a sword into the sand
Why is this band so underrated
Fascinating, Abney Park, SPG, and you guys of course, all 3 pull off showing off the good and bad, seriousness and fun, of Steampunk and it's influences, case in point, this song and The Incredible Jelly Doughnut Juicer.
AHA YES! THE HOLY TRINITY OF STEAMPUNK!
Absolutely in love with this band. The first Cog is Dead song I've listened to was The Death Of The Cog about... five years ago, I think. I'm delighted that I keep finding more gems from them. Thank you for your amazing work!
I still don't understand why tCiD doesn't have a bigger fanbase with songs like this. (totally not a fangirl)
steampunk songs probably don't get much attention
mmmmm, I love the smell of self-indulgent presumptuousness in the morning.
brodisius k
They're doing their best and they're getting better every day... both things you're not doing at all...
Also, they're awesome as hell!
It's alright if you're a fangirl, in fact it's cool. And I know, steampunk bands should have more fans.
Featuring Captain John Sprocket on lead guitar and lead piece of wood. Definitely liked the aesthetic of this one.
The whole band has the same aesthetic and it's amazing
Wait do you mean lead the metal or
It's not common to hear singers like this who can pull of an operatic style of vocals along with various ranges, tonalities and other styles. It's truly awe-inspiring and the music sounds AMAZING. Thank you so much for this!
This is the song that John Henry listens to when he fights machines
I thought of John Henry too. Cool guy.
@@willieearles3151 did you ever listen to the Johnny Cash song called John Henry? Very awesome stuff. John Henry is the type of American legend that I just don't see get the same love anymore
Listened to it off of your recommendation, great song.
@@willieearles3151 Johnny Cash was a legend. It is rare to find a singular musician who stretches across such a large groups of people. From the punk rockers and metalheads to the country and blues folks and everyone in between. That aside, that is like my fifth fav Cash song
I get a strong Mad-Max feel from the beginning - great video!
Isn't that Captain Whittaker from Airship Isabella, right at the beginning, orderin' the workers around?
Yep! Cedric is one heck of an awesome guy!
Yes it's Sky Captain greyhawk Cedric Whittaker!
@@thecogisdead yes Hawk definitely is!!!!!
My god, the percussion in this is awesome. It makes an awesome feel of men and women working in a forge or, well, building railroad tracks. I always love songs who use the sounds that fit with their topic, it helps to immerse you in the story they're telling. Reminds me of A Mariner's Revenge Song's use of instruments like an acoustic guitar, accordion, and tambourine (don't hear that often) to make it sound like the kind of song that sailors on a ship would sing together. Brilliant work!
When you're building a railroad in Minecraft. Just another block in the machine.
No Redstone To The Grind
I love the harmonies in this one. My first song was the Clockwork Dragon, but this is now my favorite.
What I appreciate more than the music is that they actually respond to comments and not some typical generated response. Makes me like this group even more
for that
Beautifully good! I wish I could see you guys live at least once!
Damn, Sir, you must have stolen your voice from the gods.
Is anyone going to mention that the boss man has Vampire teeth
No
No
No
No
No
This voice is making me melt ngl don't think I'll be getting this song out of my head any time soon LOL
I wish I had John's singing voice
With the costumes, I'm imagining people slaving away to build the railroad line when an airship lands on the edge of town to drop off supplies, the crew clean, well fed, and wearing crisp uniforms.
Listening to this for like the 5th time today, it gave me an idea for my stories. Mass industrialization I'm a seaport nation that leads to revolt and war. Thanks my guy.
It took me 6 years but there is a bounty hunter symble easteregg in the rail wardens red goggles. Nice work cog.:)
Edit:
Should be specific, it's a bounty hunter guild from star wars
:)
I just wanna thank you for writing this song. Makes me feel like someone out there understands me.
Fifty years old and I'm discovering steampunk music. This is the third band ive checked out. His voice is great. The band is so good. Well done! Looking forward to hearing more from you guys.
2:55 I have never seen anyone play air guitar so cool on a piece of wood
love the guy hitting the rails with a sword
another great song created by another great band :D
I used burn it down in a competition I had and we came fourth out of about 20 of us.
That chorus was freakin' beautiful.
Was i the only one, that thought this was a steampunk version of pink floyds "Another brick in the wall"?
Or rather, of Tennessee Ernie Ford's '16 Tons'
@YETYland: but that one's already practically steampunk.
@elijah mikle probably just the first song they thought of
@elijah mikle It's probably the fact that the chorus starts with "All in all I'm just another cog in the machine" which is pretty similar to "All in all, you're just another brick in the wall"
I love these working man songs.
Your music makes my days better. Thank you!
It's like an insert prayer! The only way to know if there is a God is if you guys visit Wichita again!
I just realized that every single one of your songs is perfect background music to outer worlds
I love all the different cosplayers joining in at the train tracks.
That video rocked! I really to see that today! Made me feel a lot better about my lot in life! Awesome as always.
It's how everyone is who works for corporate office for just the person in the machine just grinding our gears away on life under their finger this song and burn it down really tying with each other
Instantly became my new favorite song from you guys. Absolutely lovely! Just out of curiosity might you be planning to do any more work with Spiky in the future? Steampunk Carnival Symposium Extract #5 still gives me the goosebumps!
Thank you! We would love to do more work with Spiky if we get the chance. it was a delight working with him on Carnival Symposium. :)
I don't know what i would do to have your vocal cords implanted into mine... god your voice is so smooth but still so smokey amazing...
The Guitar solo is so Santana. I love it.
I love it!
just as much as I love all the other songs you guys make.
Another bloody good song lads!
Not sure why this came up in my rotation, listening to Filk, but I LOVE IT!!!😍❤❤❤❤
I don't know why but the lack of tools or even rocks as hammers in the beginning upsets me, I know it shouldn't but it does.
I play this in my head every time I go into work
I'd cry if I ever met you guys
Ghost Blade Aww, thank you so much! :)
The Cog is Dead you just made my day 😭
This song is very good! Love the steampunk attire! And again job well done vampyre big brother. Sky Capitan , you make a fantastic Railway boss. Very nice outfit too. I know it must have taken a while for you to make it. Your work is incredibly good. I'm honoured to own a couple of pieces from you.
This is my favorite song from the "Carnival of clockwork", thanks for making this music video Captain, I salute you
+SlackJaw Yes, YES, YES!!
once again, thank you john, for making my day work out ....
Greetings Blessings from the Bride of Christ 🌟✝️✨
An amazing machine we see, many cogs running so beautifully. Love your lights my friends, family 💜
Love and Light 💖🙏🔥
Bee 🕊️🌈🐝⚖️💜🏴🏳️✝️🌍
Huge fan of you guys! I got most of your albums! The Incredible Jelly Donut Juicer is one of my favorites.
Thank you for this. Somehow I really needed this confirmation that I'm not the only one that feels like this today.
Very , very nice music , Steampunk univers is full of good idea (like's installing railway with sword XD ) , congratulation for the video and for the song ! ^^
Long live to Steampunk way of life ;) .
+ 1 like for The Cog is dead !
Dude, add a Base line and this song is literally perfect.
Your music is my inspiration for a part of the game I create
This is a song of my work life. I've worked long hours and hard jobs all with minimal pay. Gotta work 50-80 hours a week just to get by for most my life. I Got a better job now working only 48 hours a week in above 100°F (above 35° C) labor job.
I love this song.I listen to it at work and I better as I work through the day
You guys are awesome, I'd Prepare for Adventure with you any time.
Also in some verses I got a real "Livin on a prayer" vibe.
Amei a música, que vocal poderoso!!!
Bro awesome video, nice job as the railway boss hugs dear vampyre
Finally steampunk I like the music
Did you guys filmed this video at Old Tucson because am from Tucson and I recognized the park
Yep! This was Wild Wild West Steampunk Con held at Old Tucson.
The first song I heard from you guys was the girl and the clockwork dragon
Anyone else besides has the feeling that this should be turned into an animated jukebox musical movie, only using songs by The Cog Is Dead.
I LOVE THIS SONG! So relatable!
Keep it alive Brother Sprocket
Never has a plank sounded so glorious, sir!
This music makes so much sense and is understandable
first cog is dead cong so happy that i found a great band to listen to
Sing it like it is brother cause I'm doing the same thing my mother had done and extra by lifting 40lbs of stove pellets every few weeks the most I've moved by my self was 60 bags total of 1,200 lbs after moving every bag lol I'm 5'2 ft 3\4 in tall
This is epic!! Those vocals are so good! Also, that guitar
Pardon me, but the first part of this song is the orkiest thing I have ever heard. Too cool. By the way the rest of the song is pretty good too.
Love this Song its personal favorite
been waiting for a video for this song ^_^
Красавчик, и поет и играет красиво
Push yourself away from the table and yell,
"No more Jell-O for me, mom".
Me working grocery store frieght: *takes break and jams to this* mmmmm yes
Delightful. I loved this!
im suprised this song gave me goosebumps, only a few song have ever done that
Awesome!!!
I love this song
My favorite song by them
you are INCREDIBLE!
I love the song and I love that it was shot in Arizona :)
Somehow going down a rabbit hole of parity music lead to this.
Wait... John is wearing glasses and goggles. He's making a fashion statement.
again and again so freaking awesome! +.+
Love your stuff!!!
THIS SONG IS FUCKING AWESOME, ONE OF MY NEW FAVOURITE BADNS FOR SURE
Прикольно співає пузан )

That's it. I'm buying this album.
Honestly this is the anti-capitalist's anthem and I love it!
*anti-crony capitalist
Gotta say, first time I've heard a song advocating for being a Cog in the Machine
Great song guys
Hooray for Steampunks who wear their wedding rings while playing their instruments! I always found it adorable how John is always wearing his ring. He must love his wife (or husband; I don't know his orientation).
Thanks! And yes, I love my wife very much! 😊
@@thecogisdead You're welcome! Awww! What's Mrs. Sprocket's name?
