You should check out Steam Powered Giraffe (similar genre, also with elements of voice acting) or I Fight Dragons (all-around awesome punkish classic rock sorta thing).
Dr. Steel introduced me to the world of steampunk music. I Googled this band after hearing they were in the same genre, this was the first result, and I'm off to an amazing start; love this style, love this song, love this band.
Also feel free to look up Abney Park and Steam Powered Giraffe. Abney Park is styled after time-traveling sky pirates, and Steam Powered Giraffe are made up of singing "automatons" with an awesomely detailed back story (Which can be found on their website.) Welcome to the club!
The last line, "We'd we have to go and burn it down?" makes me imagine that all the workers and the factory owner ended up cursed in the afterlife to relive their last few minutes for all eternity. The righteous anger of the workers, their reckless revolt, the factory owner's horror when he realizes what's about to happen. And now they sing, and they lament the fact that neither side was willing to compromise.
Damn dude. The first song? And to think mine was some cartoon intro, for what I remember. Maybe I heard some different song within my first year of life and just, forgot. Like my fellow humans do, just forgetting years of their lives
Yeah, and then it would degrade slowly. Or become a new company with new management, if some of the workers would be smart enough to manage thing. In both cases nothing would really change.
I discovered this song 7 years ago already, I still listen to the whole story everytime, it's so well constructed - also musically, Well Done Guys!!! (your best work in my opinion =) )
First, I love the song, voice is amazing. Second, I personally feel the CGI was well done! it was subtle enough not to overshadow the bands performance yet added a nice compliment to the story that was being told through the lyrics. The effects were stunning anyone who has done video editing and visual effects would understand its not easy. I also found the small piano a cool addition.
So glad I found this band. Can't believe it took me this long. Just amazing. The storytelling and music styles are brilliant. Brings steampunk alive for me for sure. Great work!
It's been years since I listened to this band. When I first did, I was ambivalent about who I liked in this song. After three years of retail and odd jobs, I'm on the worker's side here. Glad I rediscovered your guy's work
I love the lesson of this song. Both the exploiter and the exploited were wrong. The old man caused the rebellion The workers were too ignorant to make sure they wouldn't regret it later You can't give too much power to the worker or the employees, or it will end in a disaster.
You rule! You are telling a story with your music and bring us into fantastic worlds! Please do not stop t what you are doing your music is top quality!
I've been in love with this band since high school, and ended up meeting some really awesome people through their music. Just wanted to say thank you for that!
Outstanding song! I am highly addicted to this now. One of my all time favorite songs! Definitely receiving a Tim Burton vibe as well. Keep up the great work guys!
@@Coridimus My point is you'll never achieve the utopia you think you can, and will destroy everything beautiful in your wake in pursuit of it. And you'll like to yourself til the end of time to the contrary.
@@Morec0 what you describe is the modern world under capitalism. Marxist socialism, of any flavor, is inherently non-utopian as it strives to understand history and society through material reality as opposed to more ephemeral concepts. To say "true communism" is almost meaningless. It betrays a lack of understanding of that word, historical and material contexts in which it is used, to say nothing of the broad swath of non-Marxist definitions that have existed.
@@Coridimus aight, here's a material reality for you: I am going to do everything in my power to keep me and mine safe from you and yours, and the resources and power we have accrued through a history of struggle out of your thieving hands. Sound good, "comrade"?
Brilliant song and this is what I love. Each of your songs has a story and this one took a logical spin on the classic steampunk factory tale. Also provides a moral: Sometimes the worst things in life are for a good reason.
You know, before I saw the face of the voice I very much imagined a rough, gruff man with a cowboy hat and leather boots sitting at an old-timey tavern telling tall tales to whoever wanted to hear. Specially in "Live to fight another day". Amazing how some people's voice alone can paint such a colourful picture.
Aaaaaaand I can't purchase your CD outside of the US. Well that was a bummer. Great song though. I love it! I had to be up all night, it really helped! :D
This song is one of my favorites. Still, as an actual pianist, I can't help but laugh when I see the band-leader play that tiny toy-piano and still have that kind of sound come out of it.
The magic of steam punk is, that you can do anything, and it would be 1000 times better, when you put a brass goggles on your hat. : ) Very nice piece of music.
I want to hug the drummer. He just looks depressed, like he needs a hug or a chocolate milk
