- Big UPDATE! It was brought to my attention via Twitter and then confirmation from devs that Wreckfest actually uses MoltenVK, which basically translates Vulkan to Metal API. This means iPhone 15 Pro Max GPU has to work harder than Android as Vulkan is native to Android, while iOS has to translate via MoltenVK. This explains the 1% Lows and FPS drops out of nowhere on the iPhone during my testing. Hence, this test is actually not fair GPU comparison. I learn new things every day!

Look at the review of Resident Evil Village on iPhone and iPad by Digital Foundry, they said that the biggest bottleneck of the iPhone the is CPU, so any other mobile chipmaker have an even greater CPU bottleneck that makes the supposed extra speed of their GPUs useless in most mobile games, all AAA games and many apps.
I just saw iPhone was using MoltenVK and not metal, this makes the test even more crazy 😳

Would it be possible for you to run the same tests when a more optimized version of iOS is released? I have the 15 Pro Max, and during these days of testing, I've noticed that some apps and games aren't well-optimized, causing overheating and a decrease in battery performance. Good video.

Well I love one ui for the software features and it's the reason I buy their phones, the daily ease of use is on another level with Samsungs "one handed operation+" app

It's funny that now it's the Apple crowd talking about how this game isn't optimized for their preferred platform, because it's using MoltenVK instead of running straight off Metal. At the end of the day both sides of the phone debate are like that Spider-Man pointing meme. That's what makes it fun, I guess.

Yeah I just wish devs could equally optimize. Every time I do a test it seems I get told it’s not fair or shown information that I did not know lol

Because Samsung using overclocked SD gen 2 not an ordinary SD gen 2 and btw Xiamio 14s already out with SD gen 3 and it does has throttling issue!
@@adilalkanzy1820 But that doesn't make it ideal comparison since it doesn't make that chip that much powerful. As for Xiaomi 14s, yes it does have 8 gen 3 and I have seen some gaming reviews on it and it doesn't reach above 40-41 °C. Also Xiaomi isn't known for their great thermals. Let's wait and see
Apple said the A17 was ready in late 2022 after a few months' delay by TSMC 3nm. So, really, the A17 Pro was ready in late 2022, like the SD8G2. Apple is now close to testing the next-gen N3E and N3P. Just because Apple does not brag about the latest chips until they arrive in the iPhone does not mean they were not completed long before the release!
how big is the difference between when trying to use vulcan through molten VK
Hard to tell, but after reading how MoltenVK does naturally restrict the A17 Pro GPU, my guess is that if this game was native to Metal it would probably average much higher FPS (58-59 fps) and close to 100% GPU usage. Lower GPU basically meant MoltenVK was restricting GPU since game does use 100% GPU

I hope so. But this game has a relatively small fan base so I’m unsure if it’s enough for them to optimize game for iOS. Last update was in May, 2023 so updates are very slow
Are you also taking into account the higher resolution with the iPhone vs the S23?
Yeah I didn’t find out res until last minute from devs. This means A17 Pro has an even bigger gap in GPU performance compared to SD8Gen2. May also explain the lower 1% fps lows.

@AntGsz94 yeah should be a perfect 60 fps. Especially since the game is natively running on vulkan and nothing else. Both D9300 and A17Pro won't be able to beat Gen 3 in this specific game as it is optimized again only for vulkan. At least A17 Pro has moltenvk to transcribe vulkan coding, D9300/Mali-GPU has nothing

well, snapdragon 8gen3 will beat A17pro in this test, it's unfair for 8gen2 because its GPU is only equal to A16 in 3dmark wildlife extreme stress test !!!!
The S24U is not out for three months so not sure how he can test. Also, do not believe the benchmarks of the SD8G3 GPU as the Xiaomi 14 Pro still only matches iPhone in real life tests. The iPhone is the King of CPU and is close in GPU.
8gen2 is much faster than a16 in "gpu" and on par with a17pro. and yeah 8gen3 is the real competitor to a17pro.
Well, this is the fair comparison.. or do you think the last Note 20 what released with the iPhone 12 was only good enough against the iPhone 11 too? Because if you think the renamed Note 24 is the comoetitor of the iPhone 15, than if you do the math (24-4 and 15-4), than you want to say that the Note 20 was that crap, it was only good against the already one year old iPhone when released?

For chipset comparision u should always use best , redmagic 8 pro vs iphone 15 pro max here. If not a gaming phone, you can use mi 13.
This game isn't even running natively on metal but instead vulkan, which makes the iPhone look even more impressive!

Most games run higher refresh rate and frame rate on iPhone than Samsung galaxy witch is more draining for iOS devices than Samsung phones so this isn't fair rather reduce the settings on the iPhone to keep it fair

The iphone was dropping frames whenever they were other cars in the frame and it barely had another car with it(only at the start of the test), whilst the s23 ultra had mutiple cars from start to end, so not the most accurate test

Not really, MoltenVK is holding back the GPU for the A17 Pro which is why GPU usage was low and why there was sporadic fps drops. So this test isn't really Apple's ro Apple's. As for cars its hard to control this variable. Plus, there was still cars with the iPhone.
But it was actually the opposite.. rewatch the video.. the iPhone had stable 59.99fps in the first part (when he reached the 2nd position.. and it's hard to show multiple cars before the 2nd.. so your statement is ended there, and until that it's never dropped any frames because of the lot of cars on the screen..)
@@TamasKiss-yk4st obviously it won't drop frames at the start(the game isn't too demanding), once the phones heat up that's when the frames start dropping which is towards the end
