@@kuzan_aokiji Mr Helix didn't really do anything new though, storyboard mapping had been around for years, he had already made both Aleph-0 and disconnected hardkore in 2018, and pikaquims Aleph-0 was from even earlier than that. Time traveler was really just a polishing of the mapping style

His maps are super interesting and the storyboard elements allow him to build on top of osu to create an experience of playing the map that is beyond breaking the game for cool effect. Like for instance his most recent map essentially being a whole new rhythm game in its own right beyond osu with how the storyboards are done. And it seems like a lot of aspire maps are heading in that direction too, like with the one ctb map where you have to dodge the space invaders, essentially making a whole new gamemode within osu.

The point of aspire is to push boundaries and create something truly innovative, and storyboard maps are becoming stale. Maybe we'll see a divide in the two map-types competing against eachother to make the best map.
this already exists! there are a couple BMS songs that have maps like this. sagashi mono is one (osu.ppy.sh/s/177187,) and I believe the other is also an onoken song. there might be more, but those are the ones I know of
I've never seen that second aspire winner before. I've seen and thought of using sliders to animate before, but that butterfly is something far beyond that.
I've had an idea for a map for a while now. Make a bunch of difficulties that are based on screen size, aspect ratio, and distance from the screen. Place notes only in the eye's natural blind-spots.
It’s a gimmick skin from one of pishi’s maps. Whenever objects are spaced far apart the follow points are a giant white image so you can switch “background” colors without a storyboard. It’s not an full skin yet as far as I know.
Now that I brought up Arcaea, one thing I felt about that game was the creativity of every different chart, which I guess is why I loved that game. Osu, definitely has that potential, since it opens creation to any player in the game, but that also means a lot of maps are going to look regular and standard.

Only thing that's annoying is that some of the maps for aspire this year auto-fail you at the very end which is really annoying if you wanna save a replay of your play. :/ I get that it's a clusterfuck contest but cmon, autofailing is considered real difficulty now? >_>
as many also say; what i dislike about this aspire contest is that people seem to tryhard to much. like they want to make something new or cool-looking so bad that they forget the playability. that's why my vote went to the dab map (think it was tranquil chipmunk?). it was pretty tough and had some cool elements yet it doesn't look totally impossible and very clean in relation to the other maps imho. somber ibis was good. but the end killed it a bit for me. that didn't look clean nor playable to me (while i bet many top players will be able to pass it but you get the message).

Im surprised you didn t talk about time traveler from knower ? Where you have to olay the notes backwards from how they appear , and a section forces you the heal the health bar and give you 100% score weather you missed notes or not It even force change skin of the game in the level 2 times

This OD, AR, etc., but most of all, allowing players to change circle size during a map. Simply giving mappers the ability to do that would allow sooo many interesting patterns to be made. I think the whole mid map CS change is a rather controversial idea... I am open to it I guess - But, it is a really really really really risky thing to do. And also, the current editor is enough to turn away A LOT of people as is... if we put anymore shiny buttons on it, we could just make it look like a space shuttle with no manual.

Beautiful maps are beautiful. But I hate badly designed maps from a game design point of view :P A mix between standard ranking and aspire that keeps everything in mind is nice. I've seen maps with changing the speed of sliders in songs that have the same tempo and it kills me. Sure "you can read the speed of the slider by the dots" but sometimes you can't see it. Small sliders with multiple repeat arrows are a pain if you play a song for the first time trying to guess when to move on. And streaks with the same distance but different speed confuse the player. Kudos to those who make a map that is beautiful has a clear design and is still difficult.

I feel like aspire needs to occur less often. I think that is because the purpose of aspire is to enlighten/inspire new ideas into the osu! community, and if that is done too often, then people might not have enough time to really create ideas. In my opinion, aspire is essential to keep osu! gameplay alive, and it may be the biggest factor of osu!'s evolution, if done correctly.
Aspire 4? Well looking into lazer reveals oval spinners and some circles that have ar so low they appear first but are hit last. Oh, and the new hitobject peppy has hinted at (not sure if thats a secret but its not anymore!)

I disagree with slider distortions being a legitimate aspire technique, and I'm not just saying that because I'm bitter. If you play or edit the map on Fallback mode, none of the distortions work. You only see the slider head and the first 1 or 2 slider ticks in both the kiai section and the final section with "ghost" sliders. In other words, you don't get to see anything cool, just a regular note which you can't 300. The kiai distortion section literally just looks like a regular stream stacked on the middle of the screen with floating slider ticks. The entire gimmick relies on a bug (most likely a faulty implementation of rotation incorrectly calling openGL, which is why it doesn't work on Fallback which uses DirectX), which means that it could be patched out at anytime, and that all the distortions will look like that for everyone else as well. Would you have voted for Somber Ibis if all the cool sliders had just been a single note instead?

Wx6v with a trick, cs changing works in mid of maps. also on osulazer i modified things which allowed me to go past every limit known lol
hopefully there are ways to modify spinners to a point you can only spin 1 direction for it to be counted
Isn't osu!lazor coming out soon? wich is opensource. Opensource, a bit programming knowledge and a lot of creativity would make really awesome maps.
