I wanted to get one of these too. Watched a few videos, waited too long, then poof, they were gone. Did order the cima 1 though. Hope to have it in hand before your review. Btw, concerning the loose ferro rod, you can get what looks like paracord but is elasticy. With a simple loop over the other end of the rod it stays in nice and tight, but is easy to remove. Or, if you're cheap like me, cut off a piece of the cord at the waist band of a fleece sweater.
That elastic paracord stuff is exactly what I am looking to buy, I just haven't found any yet inexpensive places to buy some yet. I don't have a fleece sweater like that.
No, thanks for the suggestion. I was just checking out the fabric supply stores that my wife uses to get sewing supplies, they have all manner of elastic but not quite what I wanted.
I'm not typically into fixed blades since I have not much use for them but would have purchased this one for the price if it would be available shipped to Canada. I wonder why Ganzo is not producing it anymore. On a side note, a better value for bushcraft/hunting is probably a Mora. I bought for my father-in-law a Companion Heavy duty on Amazon.ca a couple of months ago for 25 bucks. The blade is not as big and it doesn't come with the extra ferro rod and sharpening stone but its a better steel and this Scandinavian grind is sweet. It will make it easier for him to sharpen it.
I asked Ganzo about it and the rep did not supply a reason why they stopped making them. They just needed a few little tweaks and they would have done quite well. A few tweaks that would not have added much to the cost of production. Like turn the ferro rod system right side up instead of down, like a snap instead of velcro, and those two things would have made it a much better knife. I like the Mora, I have a video about one on my channel somewhere.
If you like the look of it then go for it. I am sure I can find other knives that I like just as much for the same price, but these Ganzo fixed blades are pretty good for the price.
nice batoning in spite of the serrations. did the screw on the end of the tang seem like you could use it to make an impromptu hammer to pound tent/tarp stakes in the ground?
Good question, but no, I didn't even want to try it for that. With my knowledge of bolts and nuts, ie threads and the abuse they can take, suggests to me that it's not a good idea to use that end as a hammer. I would not want to cause the round nut to beging to get sloppy and then it will tend to come off. I think that's just asking for trouble. But that brings up the concern that some may have: Will that nut that tightens the knife into the handle come loose? I would say I don't think so, as long as it isn't used as a hammer. LOL. If they would have made the handle to be permanent and not this current system then they could have made a nice hammer on the handle end - that would have been a nice feature.
No, I don't think the medium is good enough for some hammering, unless your tent pegs are always softer than metal, then maybe so. If I was to try that I would use the "permanent" (red) thread locking liquid.
Yes, I have the CIMA 1, and the review for it will come out next week. I like it better than the preceding fixed blade knives I have reviewed, and by a fair margin too, even though it has a shorter blade than this Ganzo or the BBKULE.
I think you will be stuck with the re-branded one, that is available, see the video description for the link. It has a better way of holding the knife in the sheath too, significantly better.
I bought this way back in June, and it was VERY hard to find it then, now I cannot find it at all with the Ganzo branding on it. I am 100% sure that Ganzo makes the "StatGear 99416 Surviv-All Outdoor Knife"
здраствуйте я из россии г. москвы вы можете сылку скинуть где можно купить такой нож с сиррийтером а то у меня есть нож Ganzo G 8012 приобрел недавно я являюсь вашем подписшиком на канале
Thank you for watching. The Ganzo G801 is no longer available. Sorry. I have no idea where to get one. They make a different brand of the same knife called the " STATGEAR 99416 ", you can get it here: www.amazon.com/StatGear-99416-Surviv-All-Firestarter-Sharpener/dp/B00UM5H2E0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1478461378&sr=8-1&keywords=StatGear+99416

I had them started even before your request. I have another one, a BETTER one, for Friday Oct 7th.

Canadian Cutting Edge have you tried Mountain Equiment Coop. I think they carry shot bungy shot cord.

hi, thank for this rewie! is it still worth buying when we have a 803 now in stock?

I figured as such. but I'm sure a little medium loc-tite would stop the screw from backing out.

Do you have the cima 1. This knife is similar to gerber.

Can't wait for your review.
I have it tentatively scheduled for Friday the 7th of Oct, If all goes to plan.
First :-) I have been trying to get this one and like you said you can't find it anywhere! (I also don't want the serrations)

What is your oponion about this vs G8012?
The two are exactly the same knife except this one has some serrations on the blade, everything else is exactly the same.
i think is not. The G8012 has a more rounded belly near the tip. i think seeing photos. But i don't sure...
