LOOKING FOR POLUNIN BALLET PERFORMANCES? You're invited to visit this page on my channel where I've been organizing all the quality recordings of Sergei Polunin's performances I've found on RUclips. ruclips.net/user/IndiaInkplaylists?view=50&sort=dd&shelf_id=2 Most of these playlists (nearly 30 so far!) compile near-complete or even full performances of ballets including Giselle performances with seven different ballerinas, Swan Lake with three different ballerinas, the Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, Spartacus, Mayerling, LaBayadere, Coppelia, and many more!
Wow! This is the best interpretation I’ve seen of this! Both dancers so on top of the technical demands of the choreography and the acting is so convincing! Thanks for sharing.
Polunin's knee was injured during the performance, the blood stain first appears around 16-17 minutes and keeps getting bigger .... despite the pain, he dances perfectly throughout the performance.
Wow. I didn't notice that before. Thank you for mentioning it. It looks like the injury possibly happened sometime when he knelt at 17:43 (for those reading the comments: the injury is on his right knee.) His tights are fine before that, but shortly after he stands he begins bleeding through his tights. (at 18:07).
A thousand thanks for this have only seen excerpts and for me Polunin and Oi perform the most erotically charged duets in all ballet history. Appolonian and Dionysian elements are perfectly mixed with the oxymoron stately abandonment in Listz music. Cannot get enough of Polunin he is a superb antidote to this dreadful lockdown. Plus I'm recovering from a compound leg fracture this gorgeous and sensual dancing inspires my healing! I'm a longtime balletomane and Polunin is the ne plus ultra in shouldering passion combined with elegance incomparable💞
Glad to be able to give you some relief during lock downs and leg fractures! If you haven't already, hopefully you'll enjoy checking my uploads and playlists for plenty more Polunin. list=PLVViYmp7YHMOB3KG45g3zpoj9fGDJ2Sekruclips.net/user/IndiaInkplaylists?view=50&sort=dd&shelf_id=4 ruclips.net/p/PLVViYmp7YHMOB3KG45g3zpoj9fGDJ2Sek
Thanks so much for finding this and sharing it, wonderful to watch these very talented dancers. Although i don't know much about ballet i start loving it more and more especially since i know about Polunin, he is for me the greatest. I never heard about this ballet before so i enjoy even more because it is so new to me.
Very glad to be able to share! A Polunin-fan RUclipsr, Pam Simon has made a few videos explaining more about the story of this ballet - I have her videos on this Mayerling playlist if you're interested: ruclips.net/p/PLVViYmp7YHMPtcbXl1pZMGced9MQEIigC
Thanks. I have the Liszt Transcendental Etudes and recognised Paysage (3) and Harmonies du Soir (11) with Mary/Rudolph pdds but not others. Appreciate your clarification.
Thank you for the opportunity on your blog to see true art in the work of Sergei. I read a recording of a balletomaniac that he has been attending his performance Mayerling for five years. He notes each time the novelty and maturity of the performance. It would be interesting to see here a performance of different countries where Sergei danced this ballet.
I'm glad to be able to share. As far as I know, except for Sergei's performances as a soloist in the Royal Ballet when he played the role of the lead Hungarian Officer, all his performances of Mayerling have been with the Stanislavsky Ballet in Russia. If you haven't seen some of his other performances that are available on RUclips and want to compare them, you can find them on a playlist here: ruclips.net/p/PLVViYmp7YHMPtcbXl1pZMGced9MQEIigC
@@IndiaInk Polunin dances Mayerling a few times in Munich 2017. But he had relatively bad critics : dance critics said, he wasn't passionate enough anymore for the role and seemed bored instead ... Well... maybe this was a bad time for him, a floating time between his real classic carriere and his start in new projects ... a time, when he danced as guest here and there but didn't know really where he actually belongs ?
@Sabalight Everyone has off days. But not everyone who saw his performances agrees with the critics. One of his 2017 performances is on the Mayerling playlist linked in comments above. You can decide for yourself. 🙂

It is a fascinating time period. My father was especially interested in it and related Royal dynasties and situations of the time. I think the ballet captures a lot of the essence of this historical time very well. (As long as you don’t take the ballet to be more than a romanticized interpretation of what some historians have depicted as an even darker situation. 😬😞)
@@IndiaInk As far as you know is there a dvd of this ballet? I keep on watching the Steven MacRae and Sarah Lamb interpretation too but i could only find bits and pieces on yt.

Sergei Polounin was amazing in this fictional story, the reality was more complicated and With divergent political interests. Fortunately Princess Stephanie was married again and became the happy wife of the Hungarian Earl Lonyay and she lived far from Vienna and from her father Leopold the second king of the Belgians..🌚🌪
Yes, this ballet version of the story is complicated and tragic enough. The reality, oh my... what a mess. I'm glad you were able to enjoy the story for what it is, a fictionalized version of a historical event- and an event you seem to have a special interest in. (Which can sometimes make it harder to enjoy less-than-stringent interpretations of events.) It's also nice to know Princess Stephanie found her way to a much better life after everything she had to go through.
Unfortunately the daughter she had with Rudolf was in trouble, after her wedding with Prince Windisch Grave, she divorced and married a german socialist, she became the Red princess without any link with her mother
The last pdd between Mary and Prince Rudolph is in the last part different from the original choreographie, but very, very good performed! Thank you India!
This is the grand finale Hapsburg tragedy for Empress Sissin. The ballet really depicts the elegant Austrian/ Hungarian era and devastating tragedy of Crown Prince Rudolf. To make matters worse, Empress Elisabeth meets her assassin at the age of 61 and dies from a hat pin wound to the heart. This historical event and poignant ballet is an accurate depiction of the heartbreak of losing her only son.
@@emhu2594 This is about the Hapsburg Empire and the multiple tragedies which ensued. Sisi suffered two miscarriages and a heart breaking marriage with Kaiser Franz Josef. She watched her Crown Prince Rudolph die in a suicide truce and spent her latter days travelling about in Europe with a fatal encounter with the Italian Resistance which ended in a fatal wound inflicted by a hat pin. "Trash" is a very inappropriate label for an Empress or a Crown Prince of any dynasty. Your comment is untimely late by one year. Why bother to comment ?
@Simone Devlin I agree, and appreciate your reply to a comment I hadn’t yet seen. I deleted it because I find callously referring to anyone’s death, regardless who they were or might have done as “trash taking itself out” as disgusting, dehumanizing and hateful. It’s always a tragedy when people make decisions that destroy their own lives and the lives of people around them and never take the opportunity to right their course or use what influence they have to be a force for good in the world.
