This is like finally meeting a Doctor that wants to sit , listen , not prescribe meds & address the the real issue you are having . A good feeling comes about because you feel like you’ve been heard . Can’t wait to see what direction this takes . Peace ✌️.

This video is outstanding and should be the very first lesson in any DIY lawn enthusiast's learning journey. I stumbled upon Jonathan Green products after my YM soil test results came in. I needed big pH adjustment and found Mag-i-Cal. I'm so glad I used it but now I know why the results were so good and what elements to look for in the products I choose for future applications. Thank you Allyn for producing this and thank you to all the Jonathan Green experts for developing and bringing quality products to the DIY market. Please get retail outlets in northwest Florida!

I love this video because not only is it educational but Mr Green's passion energy and conviction shine through that is just not possible to do through sales literature. A lot of companies have lawn care plans and products to sell so a homeowner just assume each company is pushing their own particular product. When I first started looking into Jonathan Green I figured they were just another company pushing their product with their own sales pitch. After listening to Mr Green I can tell he believes what he's saying about soil first. I love his energy and passion.

That was AWESOME! I have used black beauty in my lawn for years with pretty extraordinary results and love Jonathan Greene. We are just about to move from a 3000 sq ft lawn to a 7 acre plot that we will build from scratch into a homestead. On that plot however I will be allocating between 1/2 and 3/4 acre to lawn. Here in Roswell, NM I am really excited to try that Texas Bluegrass!!!

That was a great description of the Jonathan Green company, but they really need to fix their shipping costs. One 45 lbs bag of Love Your Soil for $55 shouldn't cost $29 to ship using the standard, slowest shipping option. The shipping is 53% of the cost of the product. That's insane.

Great video. Peter’s analogies were great and keeps it simple to understand . The truck analogy is superb.
My ph (in Chicago nw burbs, over by der) is 6.2 and but my Sulfur and Iron is low. So, sound like I get to throw done some Magi-cal Plus to maintain my ph and address the low S/Fe same time.

After getting my soil test results back from A&M and watching this video, the light bulb went off.
After Easter I started getting yellow tips in my St Augustine. Looking at my soil test, I am high on every single element except nitrogen and have been battling with my st augustine for quite some time. Nothing had been applied yet this season as st a really doesn't need a whole lot of nitrogen. The main thing that led me to this video is that my ph is 7.8(DFW area). Can't wait to apply some magical for alkaline and compacted soils to remedy this. Prime example of soils being "locked up." Thanks LCN.

Longtime fan and customer of JG products. A lot of great soil info in here, nicely done. Love the touching on root exudates/biology symbiosis and the albrecht reference. It’s nice to see the principals of soil ecology and the work of Dr. Elaine Ingham and others trickle their way into turf. I’m glad this info reached the ears of the average joe. Huge step towards that paradigm shift that is happening right now. Very cool show here Al nicely done, and again, I tip my cap to these JG folks for what they bring.

We here in Indiana have a TON of limestone, so we're very alkaline (my pH is 7.7). Dropped elemental sulfur already this spring and will do it again in the fall. I might consider JG next year, however I'm still high on the CA side (thanks to the limestone), so while it sounds like excess CA isn't a horrible thing I'm hesitant to apply a CA addition to the soil.

I threw down some of the JG Love my Soil last year and again this year already. The lawn is no longer compacted, and seems to be way softer. Drains better. I do still need to do a soil test, slacking on that. I've got a spare pH meter back at the lab I could use. JG products not cheap, $30/bag at Ace Hardware. It does smell like success. Now if I just had some decent grass in my lawn, it does look great for what is there. I could have used a higher level talk of the soil chemistry, cell biology and organic chemistry. Then again I am a professional chemist. Great talk.

Knowing the PH has helped a ton and got my lawn going after years of neglect from the previous owners.

Gypsum is also a source of calcium as well it can help out with loosing compaction of clay soils, also remember with organic inputs and gardening practices ph can have swings and will do so for what is needed. Ultimately the soil life and plants will control the soil ph to be optimum for there needs. Great episode lawn care nut cheers

    Allyn,
I planted over 100 Palmetto St Augustine plugs last weekend that I purchased from Yard Mastery and I had a really strange event happen today that may be of interest to your podcast listeners. Long story short, I went outside this morning and everything looked great, but when I got home from work this afternoon something had pulled out all 100 plugs from the yard and they were laying next to each of the holes they were planted in last Sunday!!! My back yard is completely fenced in so I know it wasn’t a dog and there wasn’t any evidence of dig marks. It literally looked like they were pulled out by hand. Birds? Squirrels? I have no idea what could have done this and a search on Google didn’t give any clues. My wife and a I replanted them today and are hoping for the best that the plugs survive. Of note, I put starter fert in each of the holes when I originally planted them 5 days ago and hit them with RGS and Humic12 after they were planted. I watered them everyday. I live in VA Beach and it been in the 80s most of the week. Any idea what might have caused this head scratcher would be a big help. Thanks Allyn!

I can’t find zeon zoysia seed. I know it’s difficult to start from seed, so I need Jonathan Green to provide the seed with an easier to germinate and a solid process for seeding success. Zeon Zoysia is the slowest ever to grow and you don’t find it in single sod pieces when you need to do repairs. Reseeding seems the obvious choice but if it exists, I can’t find it. Any recommendations? Love your vids!!

    • @davidclausen6322
      @davidclausen6322 Год назад +1

It neutralizes the soil at a faster rate but will be shorter lived. You can't change science. Granular chunks of limestone can take years to dissolve.... limestone that is powder is difficult to spread and can cake up or blow away...but can also have immediate affects. Either way it still takes "Y" amount of limestone to raise/lower PH levels by "x" amount.. assuming the same buffer capacity of the soil. Biggest thing to look for is the mesh % on the bag. In this case it appears they've attached the 40+ mesh lime to slower dissolving material. If you want to do a deep dive... check out buffer capacity and PH and then get your soil tested for both and keep in mind % of mesh above 40, 100, 200. I had the same question you did. Good luck!

I have clay soil at around 7.6ph. Should I be applying sulfur periodically? The grass lays over during summer heat and drought, so maybe some calcium, also? P and K levels are high and I regularly apply nitrogen via Milo and Scott's Starter Fert at the first and last of the growing season. However, N readings are low. Could this be because Milo must synthesize before releasing it's N?

I think it's in the bag that you can add it when you're seeding

Lots of great information Allyn! I’ve got a cool season lawn that looks pretty darn good every year. Learning tons of stuff from your channels and finally did my first soil test from YM. I’m a little confused by the results though. PH is a 7.7 (clay soil) but Sulfur is high at 30.51, Calcium is high at 355.55 and Magnesium is high at 142.85. I’m looking at Mag-I-Cal to lower PH, but do I want to add more Sulfur and Magnesium to lower PH? Thanks for all the great info and keep it coming Brother!

Hi Aaron, I'm in a similar boat, except warm season, but my soil test is very close to yours. What did you wind up doing? How did it work?
