It was a nice detail to show the Astra torturing scene and we don't get a glimpse on how he looked like. He used to look a lot more like Leo but after that torture he went through, king can't fully refer him to his old look hence why we have the current astra design. Props to tsuburaya for sticking to the lore!
It's really sad that Tsuburaya doesn't have the budget to make Astra Early Style. But at least they kinda acknowledge that Astra now look different after the torture.

Man, that scene with Astra being beaten up was hard intense. Quite a mood shift considering the mostly upbeat tone of the episode. Anyway, I like how they are setting things up for Regulos getting to commune with both beasts.
Now we know why it took Astra almost 50 years to speak again and confirms why he has that chain and shackle on his leg: it's practically the Ultra verison of a scar. Being subjected to torture like that...yeah, it's amazing he was able to adjust back to any form of normal life, let alone come back as a defender. But yet again we still don't know what exactly he looked like prior to all this but...maybe it doesn't matter in the long run.
That's made me thingking, just imagine how brutall Regulos show will be if it were made in Showa era. I bet we see more of scene where Astra got tortured, people get dismembered, blood everywhere, and so much more.

Unfortunately, there was a distribution-rights dispute that prevented any more Ultra-content in the US for decades. FWIW, I have read that the prefix "ultra" entered the Japanese language by the 1964 Tokyo Olympics when it was applied to the high-difficulty moves performed by the excellent Japanese Mens Gymnastic team.

Kinda realize 3 episodes in, that this show never mentioned the name Ultraman once I guess it makes it better as it totally focus on the D60 training and everyone's a unique character here, instead of focusing on the usual "Ultras help the universe" type of story huhu
Well...none of these guys are "Ultraman" Ultraman is something the people of Earth call the Ultras, which they've adapted to being called when it comes to those who have fought to defend Earth. It just kinda sprouted from there to becoming a sort of title, given to those who have earned the right to be called Defenders of the Universe. The residents of D60 are simply "Space Martial Artists," who are living in a time where it's about the 1970s on Earth, which by then "Ultraman" was simply "The Five Ultra Brothers" of the Land of Light. Leo will be the first non-resident of the Land of Light to have the title of "Ultraman" making it mean something more. It fits in what we know of canon Ultraman history pretty well.

That's why there are variants on other planets like U40, O-50, TOY-1, Land of Bright, Planet Altara, even other Earths and planets in other dimensions and galaxies, like Gaia and Cosmos. Leo and Astra are the last survivors of the L77 Ultras. Of course, in other dimensions, histories, thus origins, are different, like how it's strongly hinted with Tiga and Trigger and the Giants of Darkness, but in general, the Residents of the Land of Light, are the "core" of the Ultra species. But as we saw over the years, there are other Giant species, including like those of Planet Andro, which Andro Melos comes from. So it makes sense how the "Space Martial Artists" of D60 are both giants but not Ultras.

He was Leo's twin...now you can't even tell when you look at them. You can acknowledge them as brothers, but you'd never know they are actually twins. That's how badly messed up Astra was at the end of his torture.

This miniseries has turned into a showcase of some really weird suit repurposing. From an Orb Burnmite suit into Dias, to a Darkness Heels outfit for one of the Magma commanders, I'm genuinely surprised at how much recycling is going on here.

Nope, basically the cosmo beast style is based from chinese traditional martial arts "Wuxingquan" or literally five-shaped fist, which comprised of dragon fist, tiger fist, crane fist, snake fist and leopard fist. You've probably seen this if you've watched Jackie Chan's movie. The earlier version of this is "Tiger Crane Double Fist".
I just knew that Miko Ito voiced Spica, it just took me a while before I could revert her voice in other character 😂, man my talent for recognizing the VA is improving...and moreover the character were all voiced by famous/well-known VA too ❤

Just a few weeks ago, I heard Morikawa-san and Tsudaken as Leon and Luis in RE4 Remake (Japanese dub) videos. Now, they're here in Ultraman Regulos as Tubahn and Phoros.
The Cosmo Beast Style group feel like something akin to the anti-Kaiju crews we see in most mainline Ultraman shows. And they, along with Regulos' arc, make this show feel more substantive than the Ultra Galaxy Fight shows- they were fun and all, but mostly felt like junk food, story-wise, compared to the mainline shows.
@@girl1213 Humanism has always been a running theme in the Ultra series, but it's a far easier idea to explore on earth as opposed to shows that take place on other planets. But also, it seems like basically every ultra is willing to ask for help when they need it, no matter where in the cosmos they currently are.
This is kind of dark on a few level considering that Ultraman are supposed to be targeting mostly kids as their audience or in another words "a kid's program". Honestly, even I as a kid didn't fully aware of the plot until much later on (couldn't really understand that as a kid you know) and to know that Astra being captured, tortured at a young age that his face is almost totally unrecognizable from back then and now seeing it live is just- Idk man. Lots of mixed feelings. At one point, huge thanks for Tsupro, sticking to the lore, another is just me personally being attacked, not ready to see the scene being made live lol. The fact that Alien magma mention about trafficking too. It's insane. I know it isn't that detail but ifyk what I mean yk.
The Japanese have a different view on what is considered "a kid's program." A part of me prefers it since it doesn't BS around with some harsh realities, particularly surrounding the topics of death

So basically Phoros and Tuban when it comes to Regulos (based on Dusty Douglas shorts) Phoros: *being careful* One step at a time Regulos. Stairs are very treacherous. Regulos: *trying to do it Phoros' way* Okay, Phoros. But where's Tuban. Tuban: *rolling down the stairs, almost two at a time* WAIT UP GUYS, I'M COMING!
Regulos was suppose to keep his meeting with Tubhan a secret yet the thought of restraining himself from using the Red Dragon Fist during sparring never occurred to him. Phoros catching on was bound to happen. While they have different personalities, they share the same wisdom towards Regulos. Dias and Regulos are crossing two different paths. Both know to commune with the Spirits of the Cosmo beasts but Regulos is clearing his mind through the wisdom of his masters and beginning to commune with both the White Tiger and Red Dragon, Dias seems to be eyeing towards the Charging Buffalo Beast. Meanwhile, the Magma Seijin are just outside showing they are nutsos and a legit threat and not knowing Leo survived while they horribly maimed Astra's face.
Tubhan didn't want Regulos to witness him and Phoros' fighting and thus be forced to choose between them. Phoros and him may fight all the time, but they don't want to steal from one another. The problem is they have a hard time sharing. They'd rather fight one another then force Regulos to choose between them

Tsuburaya I know that it is very impossible for you to see this comment but if you can see it seriously it would make me happy. Tsuburaya in this 2023 will be the 30th Anniversary of the epic Crossover that they did with Toei in 1993 called: Ultraman vs Kamen Rider My question is, do you have any plans to celebrate that Crossover for this 2023 with a special or a movie or something like that? I know that reaching an agreement with Toei is somewhat complicated, but if they managed to do that special, I know that they can do it again. As a fan of Ultraman and Tokusatsu in general, I would love to see the Giant of Light and the Masked Rider see be together once more to defeat evil and darkness.
Well tubahn and phoros are siblings is surprising but kinda understandable from me since well, in most myths especially in eastern myths dragon and tiger are tend to be rivals with each other like the white Tiger of the west, Byakou and the Azure Dragon of the east, Seiryu Which funny enough phoros is a white tiger and Tubahn is a azure/Blue dragon which is perfect while albeo is kinda like the Crimson vermilion bird of east, Suzaku since well he's style is base of a crane which is a bird, and pharaoh main element is water same goes with the Black Tortoise of the north, Genbu which depicts have a snake wrapped around it shell which pharaoh martial arts is base on the snake
And Spica represents the maneki-neko cat. While never really a "god" so to speak like the others, maneki-neko and other feline creatures have power over "luck" and "protection." And she certainly brings Regulus good luck with her protective nature.

The Cosmo Beast Style group feel like something akin to the anti-Kaiju crews we see in most mainline Ultraman shows. And they, along with Regulos' arc, make this show feel more substantive than the Ultra Galaxy Fight shows- they were fun and all, but mostly felt like junk food, story-wise, compared to the mainline shows.
Explains why Ultras were so willing to work together with the human crews.
@@girl1213 Humanism has always been a running theme in the Ultra series, but it's a far easier idea to explore on earth as opposed to shows that take place on other planets.
But also, it seems like basically every ultra is willing to ask for help when they need it, no matter where in the cosmos they currently are.
This is kind of dark on a few level considering that Ultraman are supposed to be targeting mostly kids as their audience or in another words "a kid's program". Honestly, even I as a kid didn't fully aware of the plot until much later on (couldn't really understand that as a kid you know) and to know that Astra being captured, tortured at a young age that his face is almost totally unrecognizable from back then and now seeing it live is just- Idk man. Lots of mixed feelings. At one point, huge thanks for Tsupro, sticking to the lore, another is just me personally being attacked, not ready to see the scene being made live lol. The fact that Alien magma mention about trafficking too. It's insane. I know it isn't that detail but ifyk what I mean yk.
The Japanese have a different view on what is considered "a kid's program."

Regulos was suppose to keep his meeting with Tubhan a secret yet the thought of restraining himself from using the Red Dragon Fist during sparring never occurred to him. Phoros catching on was bound to happen. While they have different personalities, they share the same wisdom towards Regulos.
Dias and Regulos are crossing two different paths. Both know to commune with the Spirits of the Cosmo beasts but Regulos is clearing his mind through the wisdom of his masters and beginning to commune with both the White Tiger and Red Dragon, Dias seems to be eyeing towards the Charging Buffalo Beast.
Meanwhile, the Magma Seijin are just outside showing they are nutsos and a legit threat and not knowing Leo survived while they horribly maimed Astra's face.
Tubhan didn't want Regulos to witness him and Phoros' fighting and thus be forced to choose between them. Phoros and him may fight all the time, but they don't want to steal from one another. The problem is they have a hard time sharing. They'd rather fight one another then force Regulos to choose between them

Tsuburaya in this 2023 will be the 30th Anniversary of the epic Crossover that they did with Toei in 1993 called: Ultraman vs Kamen Rider
My question is, do you have any plans to celebrate that Crossover for this 2023 with a special or a movie or something like that? I know that reaching an agreement with Toei is somewhat complicated, but if they managed to do that special, I know that they can do it again.
As a fan of Ultraman and Tokusatsu in general, I would love to see the Giant of Light and the Masked Rider see be together once more to defeat evil and darkness.

Well tubahn and phoros are siblings is surprising but kinda understandable from me since well, in most myths especially in eastern myths dragon and tiger are tend to be rivals with each other like the white Tiger of the west, Byakou and the Azure Dragon of the east, Seiryu
Which funny enough phoros is a white tiger and Tubahn is a azure/Blue dragon which is perfect while albeo is kinda like the Crimson vermilion bird of east, Suzaku since well he's style is base of a crane which is a bird, and pharaoh main element is water same goes with the Black Tortoise of the north, Genbu which depicts have a snake wrapped around it shell which pharaoh martial arts is base on the snake
And Spica represents the maneki-neko cat. While never really a "god" so to speak like the others, maneki-neko and other feline creatures have power over "luck" and "protection." And she certainly brings Regulus good luck with her protective nature.
