  • In the case study video, we introduced Loper Machine and their journey from spreadsheets to StartProto. Now, we bring you an exclusive shop tour where Alex Loper, Co-owner of Loper Machine, shows us around and explains the significance of their first machine, Haas VF-4, up to their largest horizontal machine on the floor.
    Loper Machine's Story:
Loper Machine, LLC, an aerospace job shop based in Edgewood, Maryland, was founded by Alex Loper and Kevin Smolenski in 2017. What started off as a part-time business endeavor for Alex soon became a full time operating shop with a continuous growth of customers. Loper Machine specializes in services such as CNC milling and turning, reverse engineering, vibratory finishing, and more to help produce medical parts and parts that go to space. As the shop has been growing, Alex and Kevin have been able to establish their credibility, add more machines and technology, and increase the size of the team. With this growth, they’ve had to find ways to organize their productions and orders. From using google applications and self-made documents to a built-out spreadsheet for quoting, the team eventually realized they would need something different to keep up with the growth of the business.
With the decision of implementing StartProto into their shop, the Loper team discovered new ways to organize their operations. Alex’s plan is to bring new technology to the shop to move Loper Machine forward and has a few ways StartProto can help make that happen.
“You guys offered us a solution at a reasonable price and the most support that you could possibly ask for.”
Alex Loper- Co-owner and Lead CNC Programmer, Loper Machine LLC

When the tour first started off I was thinking a few machines in a shop.
Still very interesting to watch a video of these sorts of shops.
But the tour continued from 1 machine, to another machine, to another machine ???
WOW, way more to see than I imagined.
    An amazing story 👍👍

I've seen him on some other channels and he is so cool. Not playing like he is best, and just honest about be happy to do what he likes and honest about being lucky in the beginning. Much more respect for that personality then for those that say: We did imposable work that no other shop on earth was able to do

Nice shop you have. Finding jobs to feed those beasts you have is awesome. I wish I had customers that would pay top $$$ for parts. Even with accurate and fast delivery. I get the Ebenezer Scrooge purchasing agents or companies.

Dad moved out when I was little. Saw him every other weekend when I was growing up. He wasn’t a bad Dad. He set the example to have a unbelievable work ethic as a machinist himself. When I was 24 my car broke down and I asked him for $300 to get it fixed and he didn’t have it. That’s the only time I ever asked him for money. I had a ton of help but the help was from the relationships I gained through continuous growth in the industry. People have faith in me to make their parts and I will put in whatever it takes to make that happen. Wish you nothing but love 💯

I built my shop up starting in 2018 with no money at all. Nobody bankrolled me either. Started with a tormach( leased) out of my garage and now have 8 cnc machines. It's not impossible to build something like this. But I understand how it can seem that way if you haven't done something similar.
