    World Rugby Awards have become a real embarrassment. Dupont is an average 7s player at best. A lot of players from the other teams were far better than him, even his own team mates are better. I don't know if it's because he's such a great 15s player that he seems to look just okay at 7s. I watched all of the sevens series this year and the Olympics and I'm sure that if different players stats were compared to his that they would wipe the floor with him. He didn't even play enough 7s games during the year and shouldn't have been considered for world player. It is like saying that PSDT only needed to play in the rugby championship and then he would win World Player of the year. What a slap in the face to all of the really great 7s players who played this entire year. A friend of mine said at the start of the year that Dupont would probably win best 7s player this year regardless of if he deserved it because people seem to wear rose coloured glasses whenever he is discussed and they have just been proven correct. The award is for the best player of the year meaning it counts all games and tournaments played in the year not just a handful unless of course your last name is Dupont. I don't really have much of an issue with the other winners, maybe some of the players in the world team (too many kiwis) coach of the year should have gone to Rassie or Cory Sweeney the Black Ferns 7s coach as he won the most 7s tournaments out of any country throughout the year and has won back to back gold medals at the Olympics (2021, 2024). The French 7s coach only won 2 tournaments in the series and the Olympics but I'm still confused why there isn't a 15s and 7s coach award. FYI Rassie and Steve Hansen were both in the same boat the year they won the RWC (2023, 2015), they both also lost coach of the year which is absolutely mindboggling.

  • @fin-ed6oj
    @fin-ed6oj Месяц назад +2

    Antoine Dupont absolutely deserves 7s Player of the Year, and anyone who says otherwise is a muppet. He came into a French team that wasn't particularly special, whilst Argentina were the dominant force on the circuit. And suddenly France won the Sevens World Series and Olympic Gold all in the space of a few weeks. Antoine Dupont was obviously a huge part of that, and it's not just his on-field performances. Winning Olympic Gold for France in Paris brought so many eyes onto rugby 7s, and Antoine Dupont was elevated to even higher stardom in France

    • @MaulorNothing
      @MaulorNothing  Месяц назад

      Everyone agrees with that, the boys were wondering whether he deserved to be on World Player of the Year shortlist as well!

    • @fin-ed6oj

      @ I was referencing a few people on Twitter who clearly just hate Dupont because he’s good. Although my two cents is that I don’t think Dupont should have been nominated for 15s player of the year. He only played 3 test matches and he looked a little rusty in both the New Zealand & Argentina games

      @@fin-ed6oj Fair play! Dupont haters are an odd bunch!

    • @chiefsgirl1307
      @chiefsgirl1307 Месяц назад

      You must be someone who doesn't follow sevens yearly or only watches it occasionally. France were a good team before Dupont and already had some great players. The sevens series format has changed now because the final winner is not necessarily the best team throughout the year and it's not based on who won the most tournaments. If it still was based on that then Argentina would have won it. Now, If you only win the final tournament then you can win the sevens series. France only won 2 tournaments this year and were ranked 5th but they won the Madrid tournament and that's why they were crowned champions. Argentina's form seem to drop when their best player who was by and far the best sevens player on the circuit at the time got injured. He was so far ahead of any of the sevens players this year and he probably would have won 7s player of the year had he not got injured and it would have been very well deserved. Giving it to a player who played limited minutes is a big cross next to Dupont's name for me. I'm not saying that he isn't a talented player but I think he is a far superior 15s player compared to 7s.
