    Have a Merry Christmas Locky! Thanks for all your content and analysis this year. You raise an interesting point about Man City and other big clubs poaching youth players. I had heard that it was just getting worse as the financial gap widened between the biggest (money) clubs and the rest. Smaller clubs like Oldham or Stockport have been crippled from not getting the same youth intake compared to back in the day. It seems it is spreading. Here's hoping 49ers and red bull can get Leeds up and competing on that top level financially. I think that is when they will really push the youth development.

      Cheers pal, thankyou for all your support this year and a merry Christmas to you. Ye the gap Is really bad which if why we definitely need red bull to help in that sense otherwise we will hugely struggle.

    Gnonto Rutter Joseph Summerville and Grey would be classed as youth players no?
    That crop was pretty special

    • @steverowley5501
      @steverowley5501 8 дней назад

      Could even add Meslier to that list

    • @JamesLinx

      @@steverowley5501 Its not true youth development. Rutter was playing regularly in the Bundesliga and we paid 25-30 million for him. Gnonto was an Italian international who we paid millions for. Summerville and Joseph we also bought from other teams for 1 million +. Only Gray is a true youth development player out of them. Gyabi, Bate were U21 signings but when you are paying millions for their services. Its not the age, it's finding local or semi local talent, developing them from U16s, U18s and then through to U21s. Thats proper youth development and what Locky is talking about. Players you can chant 'He's one of our own' is another way of looking at it! Only Archie Gray would qualify for that chant right.

  • @ldjl3322
    @ldjl3322 10 дней назад +3

    The key point is that if a player is firing 100% and dominant in the u21's, then you need to give them that 5 to 10 minutes in the first team right there and thus allow to see the next step and how much more then need to put in. We do not give them a chance. If Archie Grey was not a Grey, would he have been given a chance? Pickles the midfielder is one to watch. We get them to a great level at 16 but then the development stops.

    • @LockyyLeeds
      @LockyyLeeds  9 дней назад +2

      I respectfully disagree, watching the u21s I don’t feel they are ready to be part, that’s my issue. I think our u21s players need more loans at an earlier age. Archie is playing at a premier league club at 18, nothing to do with his name, spurs won’t spend 40 million for a name that means nothing too them.

    • @ldjl3322
      @ldjl3322 9 дней назад

      Yes, they need a loan, but giving them that 5 minutes allows them to see what else is needed to play in the Championship and also that a future at Leeds is also possible.

      Leeds situation is pretty unique as well. We love blooding youngsters its what every fan wants to see but trust me Leeds are in the middle of a season where they HAVE to get promoted. If they don't get promoted this season, my prediction is Gnonto, Solomon, Ampadu, Struijk and maybe Tanaka and Dan James won't be here next season. Meslier probably too, and no way Firpo signs a new deal. They have to manage everyones minutes, think about not the current game but the upcoming schedule. That means Gnonto, Ramazani need minutes, James, Solomon need resting. We keep trying to spark Joseph into life. Thats 3 subs right there. You have to manage Byram with his injury history.
      Leeds aren't going to use these players in must win games. Take yesterdays game. Leeds are 1-0 up and NEED to win at Derby. He's going to bring on the guy with 300 Bundesliga appearances to see the game out not Charlie Crew. How useful are 5-10 minutes in games when the game has already been decided and the tempo has dropped (like plymouth) v going out on loan into L2 and playing every week. Leeds don't use the loan system anywhere near enough for these fringe players imo.

    The problem is apart from Chambers and Crew, I don't see any others making it from the cohort.
    How many of these players are even close to being on the bench for the 1st team?
    Is the u21 team still of value?

    Our best young talent is out on loan because we have a squad that can allow that, Sunderland and Sheff have not got a deep enough squad so there youth players get in easier.

      So, the reports of his regression over the past 12 months are true then? He always thought he would be a holding midfielder when he actually found his feet, but now, who knows.

  • @richardwoodthorpe5229

    I dont think a young player can just step up like that but they must have some time in and around the first team before they can even be considered.

    Hello 👋 Locky Leeds academy has been good over the years with some brilliant players coming through at the moment it's got some good kid's coming through it seems to have dropped off obviously you know with been a coach and your knowledge on football Sunderland's academy is a good academy has been for years Chris Rigg is 17 but play's like a 27year old and Tom Watson is a one to watch i have friends who are Sunderland fan's and go to the matches he is cracking player and Chris Rigg a few teams are watching him. For me if we have a player that shows he's capable of playing in the first team give him ago Archie Gray probably the last player to come through Harry Gray is supposed to be better than Archie at the moment he's injured we should be doing better at academy level under 18s playing well. It's always good to see academy player's come into the first team squad. Do you think Locky Leeds academy could do better are we getting in young lads from the local area or from wider parts of the UK and Ireland and further a field thanks Locky Top man love your analysis of the first team and the academy respect 🙏🤝🫶 brother marching on together we all love Leeds keep fighting 🦚🇮🇨 merry Christmas ⛄🎄🎁 to you and your family fingers crossed 🤞 a win on boxing 🥊 day with the two away matches hopefully 6points but would take 4points against two tricky teams in Stoke and Derby all Leeds aren't we 🦚🇮🇨🤍💛💙

      Thankyou for all the support and kind words this year Paul, I hope you have an amazing Christmas my friend. 🎄🎄 MOT. But yes I agree, it’s definitely dropped off In recent years , Sunderland’s is top class as is Sheff U and I’d Just like us to become a higher pull again absolutely.

    So I can`t say anything about the ability of the Leeds youngster, but I wouldn`t compare the value of the Transfermarkt. Value there is mostly number that doesn`t have anything with a real value of players

    • @LockyyLeeds
      @LockyyLeeds  9 дней назад

      It’s a reflection that they have had loans or played for the first team, that’s how you get a value. Point been I think we need to use that route (which we are stating to do with a few players .

    Locky i just want to see what the progression is like on harry gray, spurs got stuffed @ home by Liverpool, gray&spence we're in the defense, have we sold spurs a couple of kippers.unless the youth is messi,pele,Maradona, Rooney & giggs.youre pissing in the wind with youth,the following names were meant to be superstars,mcfail,joffy,bates,mowatt,bogusz,many many more go by the way side..

    I agree to some extent but... you need to be tested to get into the first team... we have Amps, Guilavogui, Gruev, Rothwell and Tanaka so - even Archie couldn't get into last year's midfield. Sheff U experience in midfield = Souza, Hamer if he drops back so the likes of Peck have to get games or they play people out of position. I reckon Schmidt might end up in midfield

      @LockyyLeeds yeah true, enjoyed your video though. I watch the 21s most weeks on LUTV. I think 49ers/redbull will completely overhaul it all. I have visited RB Leipzig's training ground and it's next level stuff.

      @LockyyLeeds no proof that chambers or crew couldnt do what any off the sheff utd players could do if they were given the oppertunity
