On one hand I can see the value in a purely academic organization divorced from apologetics to try to eliminate perceived bias. But all to often the effort to appear unbiased leads to a negative bias. In any case Apologetics has a critical role in counterbalancing negative assertions with an opposing positive point of view.
In my own experience when I first heard the criticism of the book of Abraham I was shocked into a faith crisis of my own. Instead of just buying into the seemingly scholarly criticism I went looking for a differing point of view. It was my first exposure to apologetics. It became apparent to me that those “scholarly” arguments weren’t so clear cut as they appeared. I repeated this experience with the Book of Mormon and DNA. The moral to my story is to hear both sides of an argument before deciding. Anyone who has sat on a jury will know how important it is to hear the arguments from both sides of a case.

@@shawnbradford2243 There are Native American tribes up around the Great Lakes who have DNA that did not come over the Bering Straight but rather from Europe and the Middle East.
People like Dan Peterson have given talks about the Book of Abraham. Joseph Smith got to much right to be guessing.

@@shawnbradford2243 Plenty of counters, you just aren't listening to (or haven't seen) the facts presented by the other side of the case being considered.

Why are these videos released so late? I bet there is a video of Peterson speaking at the 2015 conference and we won't see it until 2018...

This is only a guess, but they sell tickets to watch the events online and at a reduced price to watch them after they've occurred. I suspect they are waiting a period of time to justify selling the tickets.
