Love Italy!!! 🇮🇹 beautiful city! Our original plans were to visit Genoa but no regrets Italy wherever you visit it’s so amazing. Churches, views, food, wine, people God was so good to ITALIA 🇮🇹 😂
1:24:48 that's fried panissa.. it's made with chickpeas flour. It is cooked like polenta and let it rest to set. Then it can be diced and served with sliced onions and some olive oil as an appetizer or deep fried like the one you're having.
Adore Genoa. The Aquarium is worth visiting and a walk up to castelleto is great for all the views from up there. The Porto Antico is a bit touristy but you can sit at the end of the port and enjoy the ships coming in and leaving as well as look at the moored yachts. On a clear day the views from the public wooden dock next to the aquarium are incredible, especially as the sun comes down. All the houses on the hills lighting up looks incredible. A ferris wheel ride at the end of the porto antico also worth it
The Latin name of the city is "Genua." The Italian name is "Genova." The English name is "Genoa." One of the two football teams in the city is called "Genoa" (the other is Sampdoria) because it was founded by a group of English expatriates (it is the oldest football club in Italy).
@@zaqwsx23 no, the latin nome is "Janua" which means "door". The genovese nome is "Zena" with the Z sounds as S in "rose".
@@massimopalomba5009 Janua is a more recent variation. Genua is the most Ancient version in Latin.
Yes, there is talk of digging a tunnel under the port for traffic so that they can take down the sopraelevata as it obstructs the view.
There is an unexploded British bomb on display in the Cathedral . It went clear through the roof but didn't explode.
Tunnels are called Gallerie in Italian
Saluti
The galleon is the one built for the film"Pirates".
The round building, if I'm not mistaken was, once upon a time , the Stock Exchange.
it was yes, im genoese
Awesome Ariel 🌟
5:00 The Historic Ship is not exactly an Historic Ship but it’s an Hollywood relic from the Roman Polanski’s movie ‘Pirates’. They took it here for an exhibition and … it remained as an attraction. The real historical boat is inside the Galata Museum a 100 meters from the boat on the right and is much much smaller because it’s a preproduction of an 800 years old vessel.
A tourist trap, clearly. 😈🙄
@@massimopalomba5009 No everyone knows and is clearly written that it's from a Movie and there is also a memorabilia cinema exhibition right near :)
The crusaders left for the Holy Land from Genova.
Always a delight to watch your channel/explorations.
Greetings 🇨🇵
(1:24:20 is memorable, bon appétit!)
The church you visited after the Cathedral is called Jesus church and hosts two masterpiece paintings by the great Rubens!
Loved this live streamAriel. It was very local, chill and informative. Beautiful vibes.
Yeah I liked it too.
Thankyou Ariel and welcome back to Italy ❤
Genoa looks bigger because it’s the central town of a bigger metropolitan area called the Ligurian central Metropolitan area that has 1,5 million inhabitants ad 4 ports. The Genoa Port, Voltri-Pra, Savona and Vado.
That historical ship was used for filming Polanski movie " Pirates" some years back
Welcome to my hometown!
The little flat fried fish was a sole.
I keep missing the lives! But great to catch up
You skipped la Lanterna e lo zoo which are unlosable
The narrow tortuos alleys were projectef and build, like in hundreds of other cost cities with the purposing tu confuse the herds of north african pirates but also vikings which once come ashore easily
Lost themselves in the alleys finishing slaughterd by the genovesi
@@paolotagliazucchi882 zoo?? l’acquario forse
Not true, many city names in English keep the original name in the local language. For example Milàn, Turìn, etc. and I as an Italian get pissed off if in English they use the Italian version. Those who say otherwise are not natives. Genoa, on the other hand, is a somewhat different case because in the local language we say "Zèna" with the pronunciation of "z" being confused with the pronunciation of "s".
I believe the highway has been built right there because of the mountainous and hilly territory in the nearby. Unfortunately a similar case can be found along the Adriatic Coast.
actually, it's high, but it's not a "highway", it's a normal urban way for city traffic. The real highway it's north on the mountains (mostly under). Genova is mostly a narrow city on the sea, and they needed a street to take people from east to ovest. It's part of the SS1, Aurelia, the old Roman way to Rome
1:32:50 Saint Georges' Palace (the slaying of the dragon on the upper central part of the façade). A weakening economy, "a few" political problems, beauty is still there but my heart sank seeing the deterioration, grafitti, stores closed down... Italy is far from being the only one enduring hard times, of course
England is worse and Germany now is in the same situation. Look for Krefeld.
Lo so.... È veramente tragico
Here on the Swiss French border life used to be good, tranquil, clean, civil.... But no more. It's inadmissible
I love Genoa.
