In this module, I gained a clearer understanding of what being a virtual assistant truly means. I used to think that all VAs were freelancers, but that’s not always the case. Some virtual assistants work as employees, and that distinction is clearly outlined in their contracts. Coach Jam shared a valuable insight by breaking down the difference between having a day job and working as a freelancer.
In a traditional day job, there's more structure-you have set hours, a consistent paycheck, and certain benefits that come with being an employee. Freelancing, on the other hand, offers flexibility and the freedom to manage your own time, but with that comes the responsibility of securing your own clients and managing contracts on your own terms.
Understanding these differences made me realize that being a VA can take different forms, and knowing which path suits your goals is important for building a successful career.
Simple and straight to the point. This module taught me the difference between a freelancer and and a normal employee.
Just finished the module on the types of VAs! I didn’t realize there were so many like admin, social media, eCommerce, etc. Also, the comparison between freelancing and fixed jobs really stood out. Freelancing gives freedom but can be unstable, while fixed jobs offer security but less flexibility. Great insights from this lesson! Thanks, Barangay VA Community! 🙌
This module taught me the difference between employment and freelancing, providing clarity on the challenges of being a freelancer, as it requires us to operate as business partners with companies. A virtual assistant, often considered an online secretary, must be a flexible worker, adapting to the demands of clients.

I've been freelancing since 2022 but have never ventured in the VA industry so this video really helped a lot in what to expect once you become a VA. These terminologies are quite confusing for me before but as I've started to watch this module, everything about VAs are becoming clearer and consice. Freelancing is a risky move but you can able to surpass this through vigorous study and proper planning as mentioned in the introduction video. In this video, I understand what is virtual assistant means. I always think that virtual assistant is a freelancers that works for someone but It's not, that it has 2 types; First is the freelancers, that freelance are those who works for themselves not for a company but with parnertship with a company while the Employment are those who works under company with specific task to do in a daily basis. My takeaway for the first video is that freelancing is a high risk high reward career. Done watching!! :) My take away for this video is, a day job offers a structured schedule, stable income, defined roles, and team collaboration in an office, while freelancing provides flexible hours, variable income, diverse projects, remote work, and greater independence. A day job can limit flexibility and personal control over work, while freelancing can result in unstable income, lack of benefits, and the need for self-management and constant client acquisition. 🙂
My take away for this module is that choosing this career is not gonna be a walk in the park specially for those like me who doesn't have any experience in doing remote job. But still, I really want to learn and praying that this journey would lead us to better career,. better working environment and better financial capacity ❤ #LetsGoKaBarangay!
I learned that virtual assistant is not just a role department but a whole company. You are the employee and at the same time the boss. I also learned that there are many types of virtual assistant and how does day job and freelance differentiate each other. Although there are benefits in freelance there are also losses all throughout. It dawns on me that if I want to become a virtual assistant I should be prepared and eloquent with my skills and have a better foundation from it.
