- With Netflix's Avatar The Last Airbender Season 1 now over, we must look to the future. We are going to do that in this video by breaking down who I would cast as the character Toph Beifong in Netflix's live action Avatar adaptation. Toph is arguably one of if not the most important thing to get right in the final two seasons of the Netflix show and so I think I found someone who can take up that role. We are going to discuss it, and break it all down in this video! Enjoy!
Avatar: The Last Airbender is an American adventure fantasy television series. It is a live-action adaptation of the animated television series of the same name (2005-2008). The series is has released with Season 1 and now Seasons 2 and 3 confirmed for the future...

I dont see why not pick her for Toph. My biggest concern was can she act cause doing the bending and acting is totally different but you showed she already has acting credits so Netflix make it so! But also do a screen test for chemistry cause that is definitely needed for it all to work. It was already a little flaky in season 1.

This casting will certainly be a crucial decision. I hope they nail it. Your casting choice is spot on,but not who they necessarily have to cast.
Fair enough on your last point again I am not familiar AT ALL with young actors at that age I am more familiar with young actors in their 20's

I agree with the choice! you can tell she has experience with stunts and it will be easier for her to catch up fast with the training for the benefit of the show since Toph is a master from the beginning
It's kind of like Dallas Liu as Zuko, he had a little martial arts and stunt training in him before he got the part

I think the bending will be easier to get down than her sass. Her attitude is the most important part of her character!
Lol she quite literally is a dick in the cartoon so if they were to make her a dick again in the Netflix I would hope fans don't become stupid and forget that that was one of her characteristics. For some reason nowadays people hate characters who come off as dicks and assholes but yet we've gotten so many in the past and people loved them.

Diana's fan film was performed with and by the actual stunt coordinators for the Netflix show. They know who she is. They're looking for a potentially blind actor for the part but if I have to choose between actor is blind and actor is the perfect Toph, that's not even a hard choice. And um, I'm blind myself, sooo…
And … if the earthbending effects look meh … that's apparently pre-vis stuff. The kind of thing you can do with like After Effects. The show should be able to do better with a real budget. This was just the stunt people working with a friend on what a Toph fight could look like. And she freaking nailed it.
She would be absolutely perfect! I really hope she gets the role. I can’t see anyone else getting it. She even speaks for a little at the end of that clip and sounds just like toph from the animated series!
Ya the voice sounds similar to Toph but not one for one so if she was cast I hope people don't complain about that
She's exactly who I also had in mind. I saw her videoback when it came out and I ever since I can't think of anyone better suited to play the role than her.

Toph's hair will be tough but we'll have to wait and see. No matter what happens you know people will complain about the hair.
@@uncleirohsteashop if she grows her hair, it’s quite simple tbh. A huge bun with long curtain bangs. They can prolly do a natural wig for the inside of the bun but NOT for the bangs like what they did for azula..

My hope is they release zero information on Toph's casting... I have no idea who it will be, but I want everything to be a surprise.

@@justafan5179 believe me when I say it, Leak Culture has become a stain on the industry. We find out everything before a movie comes out because people can't just be held to some content morality and leak shit.

She would definitely be a great Toph! I also found a young actress named Mei-Lin HoSang, who is A. The right age, and B. Has a background in both dance and Taekwondo. I'd be happy with either Meo-Lin or Diana, personally!

I like your choice but I don’t really know any other choices😂 the only young actress I can think of is the little girl from modern family but she’s prolly a bit too old at this point to play Toph and I feel like the fact that she looks like a little blind girl is so crucial to her character arc and development

I think Diana Tsoy could be a great toph she looks the part really she looks what I would imagine real life version of toph while wasn’t a great lost boy she could be a great toph
The video with Diana Tsoy was made by Natla’s stunt team. The only issue I have with it is that they made Toph touch her opponents while in the OG series Toph never did that. I hope they won’t make this mistake in the actual series
If I remember correctly the one time she doesn't initiate contact with someone is when she's doing the metal bending in the finale while taking over the bridge of the ship so ya I guess that would be something they need to look at

There is another actress who can play Toph maybe she has no experience in martial arts but she can be taught and her name is miya cech and she also has experience in acting and there is a movie where she plays a character that has the vibe of Toph I hope Netflix doesn't screw up with her casting

Diana Tsoy's stunt demo was extremely faithful to the spirit of the original! The fight-style, her demeanor; that lil' smirk at the end. That's her, dude. That's Toph!
And _had_ Netflix done a *faithful* remake, Tsoy would be perfect. BUT...
Seeing as the remake decided to "fix" a story that was never broke, it's done so much damage already to the integrity of the characters that at this point, I'd rather see 'em teach Aang earthbending by a new source, than touch the beloved Toph Beifong.
She was perfect. I say let us remember her as she was; do their thing somewhere else.

Good casting, man. Going back to live action TLOK, I'm imagining Ming Na Wen as Lin Beifong and Diana Lee Inasanto as Suyin Beifong. Don't know who'd play Old Woman Toph, though. Just since this video is about a Beifong.
Also, I'm more looking forward to who'd they cast as Long Feng. That should be good!
I'm also imagining that child actress as Child Toph in a scene with an actor playing the Boulder. Doubt Dwayne Johnson will play him, but we should see how well they execute his first fight scene with Toph in live action.
I like those castings for the older versions. Ming Na Wen is awesome! Also, yes, Long Feng is going to be an interesting casting because you're talking about taking up the role of a character that was voiced by one of the best voice actors in history with Clancy Brown.

Just to point out, because I really haven’t been hearing folks talk about this and it’s driving me nuts, is that this actor (as far as we know) is not blind nor visually impaired. I know that’s a hard requirement to fill, but Aria Mia Loberti was the lead in All the Light We Cannot See. She is a low visioned actor who played a low visioned role. Disabilities are very underrepresented in media, especially when it comes to matching actors to play roles that make sense. This should be no different than an Asian actor playing an Asian role. Food for thought!
That person is in her 30s. Also she's not even an Asian descent.
I totally get what you mean, for me as long as the actor is good at their job of acting it wouldn't matter to me if they were blind or not. Also I assume you're not recommending this actress in your comment to be the one to play her right? She's 30 lol it would make no sense.
I don't like the live action, but this seems like a good choice. But so far, all we've seen (at least in this video) is how she looks and her choreography. It looks amazing, and she seems to have experience with acting. But we'll have to see if Toph's character ends up being butchered due to the line delivery, portrayal, or script in the actual show. I still see it as a 50/50 chance because the live action has messed up a lot of things, but if they're able to execute this well, it can turn out really good.
Butchered seems to be a heavy word people use a lot recently and that's certainly not what I would use. They are just another take on the characters, they are not saying the Netflix versions are the definitive versions of the characters now. Keep in mind, these are young child actors, how many times have we seen young actors get harassed because people didn't realize it wasn't their fault.
@@uncleirohsteashop No, I would still use the word 'butchered.' It's not that harsh of a word, and I'd say it's pretty generous considering what they did with the portrayal of the show. At least I didn't say they completely ruined it because they did make some parts good, and some people seemed to enjoy it. And I'm not saying this is the definitive way of viewing Avatar, but it's not an excuse for it to be bad. It's going to be seen by a lot of people, including those who've seen the original and might be disappointed. And please don't compare this to child harassment. All I talked about was the line delivery, portrayal, and script. I'm mostly criticizing the writers and producers on how they're going to portray Toph and if the actor has the chemistry to emulate her. And just because she's a child actor, it doesn't make her or the other actors of the show immune to criticism. There are many really good child actors out there, and discussing their performances is important. It's kind of condescending to assume that child actors shouldn't be criticized just because they're children.
@@Aircrusher I didn't say any of that with regards to the child actors I was only saying that to show that we've seen examples of what good young actors could do but fans felt the needs to attack and bully the actual actors. If they were directed poorly that's not their fault but lets say they were directed well but did not give it their all, then yes criticizing the actors is fine.

as long as azula's and mai's actors are still casted i wouldn't put it past these directors to hire a family member from the cast/shooting crew who looks nothing like toph

I actually disagree with your choice because I believe that in terms of disability someone with that disability needs to play them to help give realism and give oppertunities to disabled actors.

@@BlackKEMET_ I understand as I used to think this too but now I have come to believe that disabled people are severely underrepresented in film so when shows do decide to represent them it's really important ti have people with that disability involved. I would also like to point out that the disability of a blind girl should not be a barrier to being cast. Escpecially in this instance, they would likely be the best choice and thus reasonable adjustments really should be made to be giving them the same opertunities as others.
I personally think it wouldn't be very ideal to cast a Blind Actress, because Toph's character (although being blind) acts and behaves as if she can see
And how are you going to teach a blind actress to do those bending forms? It'll take time. I understand the need for representation but it will be difficult for a real blind girl to actually act. Plus, how can you find a blind actress around the age of 12-13 with Asian descent and knows how to do martial arts just for a very specific role?
