I would say it's a good choice, if nothing else then because of the length, good amount of time to say your goodbyes etc.

So far of all the official versions the 2017 version is by far my favourite. The sound is just amazing. But even that has moments where I preferred previous mixes like which vocal line to emphasise at 1:00.

The best part of the song, the lines "Will my weary soul find release for a while
At the moment of death I will smile" at about 4:40 in the re-recording totally ruin it for me. He can clearly sing just as high as he could throughout the rest of the song, yet in the most important part of the song, he does it weakly and lower pitched.
I always wondered why he did that. I think it's so he doesn't hurt his voice live or something. Less stress on his voice

I´m a little bit confused to the "travelers" version. It says on disogs that it´s a new mix made 2012. From the original track? But the "memories" version is a new recording, also made in 2012. Seems strange they would both remix the old one and record a new one around the same time. Can anyone shed light to this? Tanx.
I'm not sure, but if I'm not wrong, they re-recorded for the memories of a time to come 3 songs, and remixed the others. But for the Travelers guide to space and time, they remastered (or maybe remixed, I'm not sure) all their albums, and so the song received a remastered (again: or remixed) special version for the new release along with the other songs from it's album. I'm not entirely sure but I believe it's how it worked.
For the records, they actually remastered for public release (since the Travelers guide was limited to 8000 copies) all of their albums in 2017, so there's a fourth version nowadays

there are many... most noteworthy, new orchestrations and hansi sings vocal lines in 3rds and 5th instead of octaves in the original so we essentially get a choir of Hansis singing chords and thereby the whole vocal layering becomes infinitely thicker, richer and more complex

The "A Traveler's Guide to Space and Time" version is the 2012 version just additionally remastered, correct? I actually didn't realize there was a difference when this was released. Would that be all it was? I don't imagine they made an entirely new mix for it again XD
Btw, was this a static blend of all the versions (perhaps with some volume automation with them otherwise actually sync up) or was this manually balanced for like every part? I don't imagine it would would just work lining up the start XD Thanks! :D
No, Traveler's version is like 2002, just remastered, Memories is re-recorded. :) I just tried to mix whole songs up to same volume, but still some parts of 2002 version are a bit quieter, which is not so bad, since it gives some depth to the mix :)
