It's very simple. How much does your barge weigh? How fast is the current? How many HP is your power plant? If you know those things -- and they all should -- you can figure out if you can go against the current. There are even apps that calculate it. Anyway, I enjoy these videos more than I ever expected. @Jenny Purcell. - I should think it's more a case of wrecking the engines, as I'm sure they're pretty much at the end of their life before they put them in, bought cheap from some scrap dealer. At the same time not really powerful enough for the size of the boat that's why they have to run them as hard as they can to get through the lock. I've seen little 4 cyl lorry engines in a boat that can carry, (overloaded - which they do all the time), between 1,000 and 1,500 tons.
@@NGUYENCHELINH Yes, I watch your videos all the time, but on this video whoever is handling the camera is not doing it the same as you did before. In other words with the camera aimed down we were missing a lot of what was going on. Before you giave us a much greater view of what was happening. You were focused before, in this video your camera work was unfocused. I will keep watching because I am subscribed and do like your videos. Just not this one......
