#55 - Awesome Snowman Christmas Ornaments... How I make them
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 8 сен 2024
- One of my daughters loves snowmen. After I made her a Snowman table ornament for Christmas last year she told me she wanted a dozen snowman ornaments for her tree. This episode shows how I made them. The first two are made from Cottonwood and the last 10 from a small Cherry limb. I usually leave them plain for the customer to do woth as they please, but I added a little paint to these. Stay watch and see what I did. Finished with lacquer. Thanks for watching!

Amazing!!!
Thank you!
Dear Bubba Claus, Merry Christmas! Sincerely, Up North Claus
Merry Christmas to you as well.
It is fascinating watching you turn, Billy. Your snow people turn out great. Love them!!!
Thank you so much, Susan! I really appreciate it!
Billy
Love the work and the music. Refreshing. Thanks for sharing your video.
Thank you, Edwin!
Billy
I love the way they are all different but at the same time, the same. Now I know I don't need to try and get everyone the same dimensions. Just the same proportions. My daughter has a Christmas Shop which is open all the year round so I know that when she sees this video there is going to be a ---- Daaaad....!!
Thanks, John, that's what makes these so great.
Billy
Wonderful woodworking thank you
Thank you very much, Jim!
I just subscribed 👍🏻👨🏻🦳👩🏻🦳🇺🇸❤️🇨🇱🤠👍🏻 . You better do another video. Your daughter if very lucky to have this gift of love.
Thank you, Lucy! Much appreciated! I've done two videos of these things now. And several of my larger snowmen as well.
Billy
Wow! Your working with a flat skew fascinating! Absolutely beautiful.
Thank you very much, Sylvie!
Billy
Yeah, that does show talent! Up here in Canada, they do finishing work with a chain saw 😳. Now that's also talent.
Awe!!! So adorable!!!
Thank you so much!!
Billy
Beautiful work Billy. Your daughter will treasure those for years and be able to hand them down through the generations.
Thanks, Steve!
Billy
Thanks Mike I am encouraged to start my Christmas turning. I like the packaging.
Much thanks!
Billy
Great idea Billy! I love the Natural Edge and coloured hats. Great method for creating the hanger as well. I might have to turn a few for family Christmas trees.
Thanks Billy!
Kyler
Thanks, Kyler! They're fun to do, and loved by all who see them.
Billy
Just Loved the snowmen Billy. I liked the way you slanted the hats. The colors were amazing!
Thank you, Susan, I really appreciate it!
Billy
Oh I didn't even notice that...I'll have to go back and look. I love reading comments and seeing things I missed the first time around.
Amazing! I collect snowmen..adorable..nice work
Thank you, Monica! My daughter does as well and ordered these for her tree last year.
Billy
Billy Burt
your welcome! Your woodwork is amazing
Hi Billy! Love the hat! Wow that knife is so nice. Love the music. I want to make some snowmen somehow lol I want a lathe! I don't care how messy it is! I'm getting one! Those little snow men are adorable!!! I love love love the way you make the hat, it's super cute. You make it look so easy, Billy! You did a great job on that hat from the '30's. I'm really enjoying this video especially seeing the little snow man come to life right before my eyes. Love your painting skills, not too globby. The little snow men look great!
Thank you so much, Robin. I really appreciate it! You really don't understand how messy it will be, but go for it if you wish.
Billy
@@TheMessyStudio don’t worry, me and mess go hand in hand lol
Billy those are really nice looking snowmen and snowwomen. I have never made any but you make it look easy. I think they would be harder than it looks for sure. Very artistic painting as well.
I enjoyed watching the whole thing.
Gary
Thanks, Gary! They aren't really that hard to do. The most critical thing (IMO) is dimensioning the sections. I'm no painter for sure. I just slapped some paint on them and hoped for the best. LOL
Billy
A very neat and entertaining video. I'm going to try some of these too
Thanks, David!
Billy
Fine job! Loved it! ❤️
Thank you, Roy! 😊
Billy
Beautiful work of art. I would like to get some.

Thank you!

@@TheMessyStudio Billy may i ask a question please, my budget over here in europe stretches enough to get a 1 horse power lathe do you think that would be enough power to do a reasonable size bowl, spindles and platters on and the sort of things you do? Im not in to creating monster bownls or 3 foot plates etc just small to medium, i have a small pen lathe that is great for pens but they say it will do bowls but it has no power and is only 250 watts, The one i am looking at is a full horse power using 3 different pulley ranges for the torques, forward and reverse etc. many thanks. Neil spain.
@@sitgesvillaapartmentneilsc7924 Yes, Neil a 1 hp lathe will do what you wish. I've turned many bowls, ornaments, etc. on a 1 hp lathe. I still have one and use it every now and then when one of my bigger lathes is occupied.
Billy
@@TheMessyStudio Many thanks billy for your advice and hope youre feeling a lot better Neil.
@@TheMessyStudio thatks Billy going ahead with a Record Coronet , seems to be a good one and hopefully not a chinese cheapey.....
Great Snowmen and Women Billy. Have a fantastic Christmas with your family. Cheers, Huw from the UK
Thank you, kind sir! And to you and yours as well!
Billy
We are 5 yrs down the time road and my shop is messy er. than yours!!! Thanks for the video, liked that you used a scew......but camera should have been in a different position.
Thank you for watching. Yes, I used a skew. I've made numerous camera placent changes since then. Always trying to give y'all a better view.
Very informative I just starting to turn snowmen
Thank you, Shawn!
Billy
One easy way to do noses is to use a toothpick. Just drill the proper size hole for a reasonably snug fit. Then cut to length. You can paint it on the snowman or dip it first. I found that a 1/16 inch hole works pretty good. If you put the pointy end in the hole, it is usually thick enough it will wedge itself in so you don't need to glue it. Hope this helps.
Thanks, Pike!
Billy
these look great, I've got to learn how to do them, wish me luck, Merry Christmas Sir.
Thank you, Ken! They aren't very hard to make. And a Merry Christmas to you!
Billy
Great video Billy. Thanks for sharing!!! Cool to see that we’re in the same city, maybe we’ll cross paths!!!
God Bless You & Yours!!!!!!
K
Thank you, Kevin! You never know, we just might.
Billy
Fun project
Thanks!
I'm first ! lol an army of snow people. I haven't tried to make a snowman yet. on the ta do list now, looks like a fun project thanks for sharing Billy.
Doug. sticker should be there any day.
Thanks, Doug! They really aren't difficult if you can turn beads. It is a bit trickier using a skew, but I made myself learn to use it when I first started turning pens years ago. I'm glad I did!
Billy
LOL as my traditional tools are blued, might of been me might have gotten them that way 20 years ago, I can't get them to stay sharp and have since stopped using them until I can get a new set, along with learning how to sharpen them and the correct tools to do so. that was a mouth full.. some day, until then I'm gonna cheat and use carbide. LOL
@@PohlBarnProductions LOL, Doug. I know that Thompson and and Carter tools are out of reach for many of us. That said, try a P&N from Packard Woodworks while you can still get them. P&N are great Australian made tools and about 1/3 the cost, but unfortunately they have recently closed their doors. At least that is my understanding.
Billy
Love your channel. Fun to watch you turn. Great ideas and like your art and style. Take care, be safe a have great festive holidays.
Thank you again, Sylvie! You and yours as well!
Billy
Watching you sharpen at 4X…. 😱🤷♀️ but I now remember that I can slow the vids down if I shut the sound off and use closed captions….see how things work out?
Yes, Marty, you can slow it down if I'm going too fast.
Nice knife Billy ! Great project and a lovely selection of snow men plus well demonstrated how you make them ....I swear I heard one holler "lemmy out lemmy "out when dunked into the wood finish ;) Wishing you all a Happy Christmas from us here in Wadesmill
Cheers mate Bram
Thanks so much, Bram! You and yours have a Happy Christmas as well!
Billy
Very nice assortment and nice paint work. What type of paint was that?
Thank you! It's just acrylic paint.
😂cause she got that big ol’ Vanna White head goin on.
LOL, Jason
I know you've been doing this a long time and I'm certainly not questioning you...but I heard CA glue isn't that good and many glue things down with a dab of epoxy....would that also work?
Only one issue with the way you're letting the lacquer drip onto wood chips...fire hazard. I know someone who burnt their shed (and all the tools with it) down by doing that. Apparently the lacquer's flammable and there wasn't really good ventilation. Either way, he lost a million dollars that night. Just recanting the sad facts.
Yes, Morgan, epoxy would work just fine and I sometimes use it for these.
Concerning the lacquer dripping, it doesn't because I don't put it on that heavy... at least not intentionally. I wipe the bottoms if I see runs.
Thank you for watching!
Billy
@@TheMessyStudio it's the fumes that would start a fire.
How much are they. I love them. I love snow men
Thank you, Deborah! I get $10 each plus shipping or $100 per dozen shipped.
Billy
Billy, What respirator do you recommend for dunking pieces in lacquer...thanks
Honestly, Ed, the best you can afford. But this one should suffice. At least it has been working for me. amzn.to/3DD2wVZ
@@TheMessyStudio great...that one is in my budget....and thank you...
Good job! Is the wood green or dry? I would like to see a different camera angle next time.
Thank you, John. The wood is typically dry-ish. I just got an additional camera and mount for it sho I'll see what I can do.
Billy
Billy Burt , hey Billy what would you charge for a snow man?
John, I get $85 for them (includes shipping in the US... international shipping becomes problematic due to weight).
Billy
Do you sell these snowmen? If so, how do we get some?
I do, Kimberly. Email me at alamocdc@gmail.com for details.
Billy
Nice work, but not very good video. The auto focus going in and out of focus was distracting. Really liked the verity and the Snowmams. Thanks.
Thanks, Thomas. The camera lens got dusty and I didn't notice until I was editing. Couldn't undo everything and start over so I stayed with what I had.
Billy
Do you know the difference between snow men and snow women? Give up. No Balls lol.😂😂😂😂
Shouldn't it be snow balls?
