RIP the two members of Morphine Mark Sandman (September 24, 1952 - July 3, 1999), aged 46 Billy Conway (December 18, 1956 - December 19, 2021), aged 65 You both will be remembered as legends.
I played in a band that opened for Morphine three times, once at The Middle East in Boston, in front of their crowd. They were always great. I wish they had one album that sounds (& feels) like they did live. Their stage sound was a mile wide & the low end came off the stage & hung in the middle of the room. I wish these two creative musicians were still with us.
This group was and will always be the glue to a portion of my soul. I have never in all my life been as moved and affected by any other artist/group's music. When years later I randomly come across a video like this, I am assured my way through life will be a bit sweeter for the listening- and my bored and cynical heart gets to skip beats again. rip sandman
yeah, I love this band so much....Sure wish Mark and Billy were both still alive....just an amazing group, unique, special.... I listen to them regularly....always will. xo
Morphine/Sandman, from 25+ years ago, posted on RUclips 8+ years ago--and I'm hearing for the first time today, grateful, marveling, happy. Thank you, 2metersessions. If you meant to keep this genius's memory alive, if you meant to make new converts, it worked. And that sax! I don't even LIKE sax, but this master is so inventive! I kept looking at the video--surely there was somebody on a keyboard, no? Is there a lead guitar? No? Is all that joy coming from just those three guys?? I'm not qualified to comment--I should leave that to true musicians--but I can give you a layperson's opinion: they were playing TOGETHER. They weren't trying to outdo one another; they seemed to enjoy the one sound made by three players. That's what makes this music timeless--it's their musical fit, nice and dovetailed. I expected to be bored halfway through or to hear the perfunctory solo ("watch how many notes I can fit into one meter"), but, no, I heard three artists enjoying the sound they made together. I'm now on a hunt for all the Morphine/Sandman music I can find. Sad he's not around to make more.
Some of bands sounds like this. The most part of this baritone sound is bass, harmony and incredibly deep voice. Also distorted vocals still in use. But, real voice without autotune and a lot of effects sounds way better.
Outstanding performance, real rock spirit in its purest form. Cheers Sandman... "...and by 9-9-99 I hope I'm sittin' on the back porch drinkin' red wine" (Morphine - French fries with pepper)
This is ABSOLUTELY one of the best performances of Buena I've heard. Is there a dvd or some sort of collection of all their live performances?? Sadly I was only 5 when their first album came out and only heard of this amazing band from my home town of BOSTON after it was too late to experience them live.
It is the best. This 2 metre session recording (and Sharks Patrol These Waters) were added to studio albums of Morphine by Rykodisc on request of the band.
If you are still in the Boston area you can see and hear Vapors of Morphine live. They are awesome. I have seen them multiple times at the Atwood in Cambridge and just saw them at the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge on 28Oct2022. They also play the Paradise.
Great to hear this after so long. I once saw them live in 94’ in the hague “het paard” with the shy guys from belgium around me from the opening band. Those guys…. Played suds and soda and we were like, what is this! Amazing, after almost 30 years still a fan. It was dEUS. A shame that Sandman had to go so early. dEUS would develop a great career. And i am sure sandman would have loved taxiwars to.

You have the hq video of "Have a lucky day" by Morphine, right? Hope you post it someday 💖
holy hell. Why have I not heard these men before? And that saxophone makes me want to just lay down and die. Jesus.
Land of the glass pine cones. Saw a double bill of HSR and MRPH. Blew the few remaining brain cells.

Really some of the heaviest shit I’ve heard
Anti guitar 80's bullshit. Rock comes in all forms . And this traditional three roll original, man.
couldn't agree more... but you might want to throw in some killer vocals as well
@@LarryGoldman Yes, killer vocals too!
Bass sex and drums
that's a lot of sound coming from just three musicians...amazingly good...
I had tickets to see Morphine in London on I believe 9 July 1999. Mark Sandman passed away on 3 July. RIP, you legend.
so what happened, did you still go?

The bass line, the sax, Mark Sandman's voice... this is one of the sexiest songs in the universe
