That's something I miss in today's games, you don't see such crazy and original tracks anymore, that arcade factor and so well done, disappeared, I played this game for so many years with 4 players on the Dreamcast, glorious times, it was a lot of fun
Hahaha. Awesome. I was never able to do it in a single pass. Those open loops at the end always crashed me, and that one triple ramp part into the triple opening. That music is killer too. Has that old Rush D&B feel with trance overtones. Dig it.
You have to unlock it by accumulating 1,000,000 points in the stunt courses. It takes a while, but you get pretty good at stunts and preps you for the infamous obstacle course!
Someone else mentioned that too... I've never played the Dreamcast version but in the N64 version you can paint any car any color you want, add stripes, change the rims, etc. just like Rush 2 and the original San Francisco Rush
With the car setting I had, it was necessary to stop before the ramp, because it was timed in such a way that the center ramp was on the way down when you came to it, and did not have enough of an angle to get enough height, and the car would hit the green goo. I did this many, many, many times... believe me, it's necessary with the way I had the car set up.
HOLY CRAP, i have this game and have been playing it for so long i can get a better score than that but still man it took me forever, years in fact to even get as good as u are, btw this is the best game ever created
That looks fun, but hard to learn. Would have to redo that a lot to get it right. One mistake on any of the obstacles and you lose time. But damn that's what was fun about racing games. I know a lot of people don't understand why that's fun. It's because not everyone could do it. Because of how hard it was, it was like a challenge to me.
That's what I hear, haven't played it myself... sucks because it was such a good series of games, ahead of their time. I played Rush 2 religiously. Got every single key, mountain dew can, and won first on every circuit.
I used the 8-Ball car, although thats with virtually no unlockable equipment, so the time could be a lot faster. I accidently formatted my memory card before this video and never did re-earn all the cars and parts.
BTW, mamahaha, the N64 version plays the "Stunted" music track in just 2 of the Stunt tracks. In Stunt track 3 and 4, the music that plays is "Flier". But you're right about the DC version having a different tune for each.
@Denaries Yes they sent me a link to the video as soon as it was posted, I promptly downloaded it. I'm following that project closely now and am quite excited! I love what I've seen so far and only expect it to get better with more maps, vehicles, and polish it more. Nitronic Rush is like the sequel Rush 2049 deserved but never had.
If you mean the game itself, I actually plugged in my old N64 to my computer and just captured it directly... I didn't think my graphics card at the time could handle an emulator and screen capture software at the same time. Plus I bet it would be very hard to play this track with the keyboard, since I don't have any good PC game controllers.
Remember my brother replaying this level over and over just to pass it. My hands always got shaky so I played like 1-2 times. Amazing job love how on e you pass the finish point it controls your direction of the car making it explode. That has always been funny in this game.
Yeah Rush 1 was cool, and Rush 2 was one of my favorites... I loved finding the Mountain Dew cans and the stunt course. I grew to like Rush 2049 more though, a lot more to it. I wanted to try L.A. Rush for PS2, but I didn't hear good things.
Well this soundtrack is in the DC version, too, but it's used only on the 1st Stunt track. Where the N64 version uses this same tune for the obstacle course and for 3 of the 4 stunt tracks, the DC has different tunes for each (by default of course) since it has more soundtracks to go around. I made mp3s of both versions' entire soundtrack. Send me a message if you'd like the link.
I know this was released on 2005, but if you have a Wii (RVL-001 or softmodded RVL-101 with Wii U Gamecube controller adapter) then you can play this title via Midway Arcade Treasures 3. If you need help softmodding a Wii to play the game via USB, forward me a message.
that took me at least 50 treis to get to the finish with even 5 seocnds left, one time i ran out of time, and landed inches from the finsih line. i cant belive he didnt make any mistakes, i crash on every thing
First: Yes, the N64 version has wings. Second: Yes, you can paint the 8-ball any color in the n64 version Third: lots of tries! And a lot of it I intentionally timed that way, thats why I cant get a faster time, I cant get a good rhythm with a faster car :(
Did a nice job and everything, but some things are inconsistent. First off the wings. Please tell me if I;m wrong, but the N64 version had no wings correct? Secondly, don;t know about paint jobs, but the 8 ball can;t go white (I;m assuming that it can in the N64 version so I won;t make too big deal about it). Finally, how did you make it through the slit in the wall without going sideways? (1:06 ish) ANd you got VERY lucky at times with the timing of the obstacles. Still, bravo!!
Jeremy Christiansen Get Nitronic Rush. it's free, pretty much the same, or you can get distance, which is the "spiritual sequel" to nitronic rush, but its $$$
yeah it's funny but the N64 version is actually the best version of the game. I can'y believe I did this back in the day. I spent a day or two of practice and did a victory dance around the house when I pulled it off.
Should save automatically whenver you finish a circuit race or collect coins or anything. You have to have a profile though, cant do just the "quick race" or whatever.
@LOGIC42369 Hell, I didn't even know you could do that without the wings! I always tried to flip the car sideways, and even then it didn't work unless the alignment was perfect. Pain in the ass with the Crusher.
Nice job, but a couple things: 1st, you could have used one of the side ramps so as not to stop before obstacle #2; inconvenient, yes, but not impossible. 2nd, you can go ahead and use faster equipment. Sure you could go too fast for some of the jumps and stuff, but you're not obligated to always accelerate the whole time. Just adjust speed when required. So 1:47 certainly is possible, but I can't blame you for wanting to see video proof. So go have a look at my obstacle run. (1:43.118)
Dude! That huge jump with the lava, How did you do that at a high speed? Every time I do that I hit the wall above the opening. And how do you get inbeteen those narrow walls. I hit those all the time. Help me!
I just recently got the Dreamcast version (Well, for the PS2 but same version), and apparently you can't customize the colors of the cars nearly as much as you can in the N64 version. In the N64 version you can customize any of the colors, add stripes, etc. Kinda bums me out its not in the other versions. Anyway, thats the 8-Ball car you should have by default, just customized in a way not possible on the Dreamcast version.
@jamespweb i was just trying to explain to one of my friends just how sick this game was esp the stunt tracks.,and hell yeah the memories!! they should remake this or reissue it for the Arcade
I like the N64 version better than the DC version soundtrack on the Obstacle Course... although I haven't heard any of the other tracks from the DC version... I may go buy it. Also kinda weird how its called "Gauntlet" in the DC version
Its anything but easy...never did pass it. I hope they remake it the way its suppose to be now with the new graphical campabilities...I wonder what the theme should be this time....not like LA rush I hope :) Good job man 2049 RUSH for LIFE!!!
So this is where Nitronic rush got one of it's amazing levels from, nice!
And Observatory from Distance.
First thing when 2049 comes I will play this game
I just bought this game again for $30 at a local retro video game store. It may seem like a ripoff, but to me, its money well spent! :)
I love the physics system in this game. Just a small bump can send a 3100 pound car flying 150 feet.
That's something I miss in today's games, you don't see such crazy and original tracks anymore, that arcade factor and so well done, disappeared, I played this game for so many years with 4 players on the Dreamcast, glorious times, it was a lot of fun
Holy shit, the wings that popped out of the car,
This was one of my favorite games as a kid.
Brilliant...I was addicted to this...but on the Dreamcast. Nicely done...
Man, this game brings back so many memories...
I had that board mastered on the genessis. Man i loved that game. I remember doing it with the truck that had massive wheels.
Hahaha. Awesome. I was never able to do it in a single pass. Those open loops at the end always crashed me, and that one triple ramp part into the triple opening. That music is killer too. Has that old Rush D&B feel with trance overtones. Dig it.
You wouldn't believe how many tries and practice it took to get that.
Obstacle Course day is a very dangerous day, but at least my car survi...
*car explodes*
Well, that's $(insert payments of the car) down the drain.
Rocko FTW! Don't even get me started about laundry day...
It should make you happy to know that the Nitronic Rush devs have paid homage to this level in their latest release. I'll attach a video response.
Hey I finally did it! It took me almost 3 minutes but thanks to you and the tips that were shown on the video I did it =D
HOLY CRAP, i have this game and have been playing it for so long i can get a better score than that but still man it took me forever, years in fact to even get as good as u are, btw this is the best game ever created
Lol Nice ending, survive a hole track of death traps, smash blocks, and lava just to get smacked 2 on a tip of a wall in the end XD
Holy shit that was tense. I want to play this game right now.
That looks fun, but hard to learn. Would have to redo that a lot to get it right. One mistake on any of the obstacles and you lose time.
But damn that's what was fun about racing games. I know a lot of people don't understand why that's fun. It's because not everyone could do it. Because of how hard it was, it was like a challenge to me.
nice driving! I remember how hard it was to control land properly
That's what I hear, haven't played it myself... sucks because it was such a good series of games, ahead of their time. I played Rush 2 religiously. Got every single key, mountain dew can, and won first on every circuit.
Amazing, great save toward the end.
Good call, think you're right... I haven't played that one in ages. Think I will when I get home now!
i loved the truck in the game and i always picked the 8.0L V10 as my engine :)
i miss this game so much
I used the 8-Ball car, although thats with virtually no unlockable equipment, so the time could be a lot faster. I accidently formatted my memory card before this video and never did re-earn all the cars and parts.
WOW I was never able to pass the part at the end where you had to flip upside down inside the loops. This game was the shizz.
BTW, mamahaha, the N64 version plays the "Stunted" music track in just 2 of the Stunt tracks. In Stunt track 3 and 4, the music that plays is "Flier". But you're right about the DC version having a different tune for each.
Amazing! I didn't even know this game had this! I was only 6 the last time I played it so I guess I wasn't really obserative.
i still play this game today its a fun game! but you are right about the obstacle course its heck uh hard!
i freaking loved this game!
i was playing it on a n64 emulator recently and thought: ohhh! so this is that awesome game we used to paly on the ps1!
I just started playing this game again on my 64 such a great game!
This puts a smile on my soul
Amazing time with friends on this and the rest of the rush legacy
as I said above, you have to accumulate 1,000,000 points in stunt mode.
Amazing race :O
If you mean the game itself, I actually plugged in my old N64 to my computer and just captured it directly... I didn't think my graphics card at the time could handle an emulator and screen capture software at the same time. Plus I bet it would be very hard to play this track with the keyboard, since I don't have any good PC game controllers.
If I'm not mistaken, you must earn 1 million cumulative points in stunt mode.
Remember my brother replaying this level over and over just to pass it. My hands always got shaky so I played like 1-2 times. Amazing job love how on e you pass the finish point it controls your direction of the car making it explode. That has always been funny in this game.
@RedTopProductions I only wish I owned an N64 back then. Glad I can experience some part of 2049 through Nitronic Rush. ^_^

HA HA HA! I actually l-o-l'ed on that one, which was awkward because I am in the middle of class.
I remember when I used to play this game with my friends :) those were good times.
they should make another Rush game.
Good for you son, but I never claimed to be the best
Man, I still can't jump that god damn lava pit.
damn i never got THAT car! and sheesh ur good. i had this for the dreamcast
First: Yes, the N64 version has wings.
Second: Yes, you can paint the 8-ball any color in the n64 version
Third: lots of tries!
And a lot of it I intentionally timed that way, thats why I cant get a faster time, I cant get a good rhythm with a faster car :(
Wow. When I finished it I only had like 5 seconds left. The very end is SO hard. The Obstacle Course is sweet tho.

ANd you got VERY lucky at times with the timing of the obstacles.
Still, bravo!!
I always wanted this game BUT I NEVER GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! its 2014 and I still want that game
Jeremy Christiansen Get Nitronic Rush. it's free, pretty much the same, or you can get distance, which is the "spiritual sequel" to nitronic rush, but its $$$
You can easily download the Project 64 Emulator and download the game. Its just a few megabytes
yeah it's funny but the N64 version is actually the best version of the game. I can'y believe I did this back in the day. I spent a day or two of practice and did a victory dance around the house when I pulled it off.
good job dude
Should save automatically whenver you finish a circuit race or collect coins or anything. You have to have a profile though, cant do just the "quick race" or whatever.
It took me more than 10 minutes to beat this level in Nitronic Rush!
Very impressive.
@LOGIC42369 Hell, I didn't even know you could do that without the wings! I always tried to flip the car sideways, and even then it didn't work unless the alignment was perfect. Pain in the ass with the Crusher.
damn, that's wicked. i miss N64 as a whole :(
o_O. Nice driving. Kudos' for you. :)
I never finished that race, it was hard as hell
I would actually! That would be awesome
But both versions have quite a few exclusive music tracks. The menu music in the N64 version is not in the DC version, for example, and vice versa.
Nitronic Rush - Gladiator (No Deaths)
I beat this a few times on the Dreamcast.
Its tricky as hell, though.
alright, ill try to get a video camera from someone and record it. i doubt i can get 1:47 again, but ill try and at least get close.
This game has great music.
Well you also have to have 1,000,000 points in stunt courses to earn the obstacle course.
Nice job, but a couple things: 1st, you could have used one of the side ramps so as not to stop before obstacle #2; inconvenient, yes, but not impossible. 2nd, you can go ahead and use faster equipment. Victory Explosion!
Dude! That huge jump with the lava, How did you do that at a high speed? Every time I do that I hit the wall above the opening. And how do you get inbeteen those narrow walls. I hit those all the time. Help me!
Sorry, repiled to the wrong comment when I said "at least the tracks do have names in the DC version". But I also like the N64 version better.
The sound effects and voice clips are exactly the same as the DC version. The soundtrack? Yes, it's mostly different.
Wow. I was never able to beat that...
i have to post a video response showing how i mess up on the same 3 spots 10 times in each run
this game is so great!!
nice, you must be pretty good
Dude, rush was the shit man.
This is intense.
I really wish they would release this on xbla just as is
At least the tracks do have names in the DC version.
Fun physics, but a difficult camera angle.
@jamespweb i was just trying to explain to one of my friends just how sick this game was esp the stunt tracks.,and hell yeah the memories!!
they should remake this or reissue it for the Arcade
How did you get the black/white paint job? It's not a paint option on the Dreamcast. Is it only available on N64?
I Played San Franicsco Rush 2049 N64 I Recorded on my VCR Tape the All Events.
@RedTopProductions how u use the wings
I like the N64 version better than the DC version soundtrack on the Obstacle Course... although I haven't heard any of the other tracks from the DC version... I may go buy it. Also kinda weird how its called "Gauntlet" in the DC version
Its anything but easy...never did pass it. I hope they remake it the way its suppose to be now with the new graphical campabilities...I wonder what the theme should be this time....not like LA rush I hope :)
Good job man
2049 RUSH for LIFE!!!
i wish that they would releases this game for ds and psp
Best Ending Ever!!!
you are a god.
This game was the fucking shit back in the Dreamcast days.
So awesome. This game rulz all.
Everyone try "Nitronic Rush", it's a new game that is almost exactly like this one but looks like tron and it's free.
This game series really took a turn for the worst. It seems to be happening with all the old series these days
AWESOME
Give me an HD version of this game NAO!!!
...there is a fan remake called Nitronic Rush which is friggin' amazing.. just fyi!
Mad Man Productions Well not really a re-make, more an homage, but still definitely worth checking out!
Mad Man Productions I know! It's now called 'Distance', I SO WANNA F*CKING PLAY IT D;
Only way to play in HD is to use an emulator on PC. Its a shame Midway and Atari both went bankrupt. We'll never see a Rush game again! T_T
IL1KE2COMM3NT Thanks for that recommendation! Comes out this week
