In New York during late 82 and early 83, We used to call this 'Don't Stop with female vocals'..a reference to Don't Stop by K.I.D. The two songs are almost identical;One had a male vocoder over it,the other female vocals ! Nevertheless,when this song was played at a club(BONDS-BROADWAY 96),It would send tremors throughout the place and set the club on FIRE !!
Wow, this has got to be one of the most atmospheric mindblowin' rare 80's disco records I have ever heard. This track floats like a cloud of energy hanging above sweaty people dancing their asses off. Thanx for posting this gem!
why was this never a hit? This has to be one of the most amazing tracks i've heard recently. It's nuts! a real early disco/electro/house hybrid. I cant believe its from 83
@danmaldesign True, but i don't think these artists had a genre in mind when writing their songs. After funk became more electronic, everyone was experimenting. The music just progressed and became more distinct creating a need for labeling/classification. It might be easier now to distinguish but not then. Look at C-Bank with One More Shot, who later came out with "I Won't Stop Loving You" which is definitely Freestyle. In the end, I'm just thankful for all these artists and songs.
No-one pushed the boundaries of urban dance further than Prelude. Been a huge fan since its inception. More evidence of the label's magnificence.Love to you Syntaxdisco.
The two songs have completely different energy. They belong at least 2 songs apart in a mix... and even then, it's a completely different direction. But yes, they are orchestrated similarly, --- but it's the elusive 'energy' that matters.
Soft explosions in the back but a few moments later an earthquake on the dancefloor. I still remember the slow moves of the dancers which turns more and more to a climax - fast moves with so many spins and jumps. Great track which contains so much fire! Love it - typical Prelude stuff!
Insane ! This is 1983?? Italo - why never mentioned in our dance house electronc bla bla ?? This is simlply sick! fantastico.! Italo b4 chicago..? wow i æm now a preacher ,, hermancorna nyclonosl
@feartactics You're so right. This is based on KID's Don't stop produced by Geoffrey Bastow on SAM records. You could say this is a ripp-off but I can say a "damn good one" I mixed it a lot of times with the original.
@feartactics many songs even the good ones in this era had the same tempo and baseline. a lot of the BEST Disco, Boogie,Italo disco around this time was Mostly produced to be played in the Paradise Garage in NYC which at that time had the BEST sound system built by Larry Levan and Richard Long. A LOT of songs sought spin in the Garage and plus frankie Crocker Form WBLS basically went to the Garage to hear what Larry was playing and then made it His playlist at WBLS. There was alot of that then.
@PAMAROSHOUSE This might be ture now, but i think when these artists first came out, those labels/genres did not really exist in early 80's. Just look at Madonna's first song, "Everybody", which played like mad a year before her first album was released. I simply thought that this 7 minute track was pure Funk at the time. But this keyboard synth sound also went into rock and gave us Retro like Human League, Depeche Mode, etc. Everything became electronic in the early 80s. ... well, that's all
@dannyneedshelp This should be classified as Funk or maybe Electro / Freestyle, but NOT Disco. SImiliar sounding tracks are One More Shot by C-Bank, IOU by Freeez, "Hip-Hop Be Bop " by Man Parrish, and the vocals at the 3:30 mark sounds like All Night Passion by Alisha.
@danmaldesign I think the early beginnings of Freestyle causes some confusion. Songs like "One More Shot" and "IOU" are listed as both Freestyle/Electro when you hunt for them on ebay etc. Freestyle became more distinct later. Rather, these songs are hybrids of Electro and Funk. Others hybrids include those from "Two Sisters" & Cheap Thrills by Planet Patrol cross borders, Paulette, Freestyle, & some from Galaxxy. Regardless, all are great songs but definitely they are NOT disco nor italodisco.
@feartactics Really very similar. And the long ooooooooooooh always reminds me of Donna Summer's end-of-1970's disco stomper "Love To Love You Baby". :)
@nikkiabbott umm, yeah, no. i DJ in "todays clubs". Trust me, they wouldn't go wild. Doesn't matter how classic a song is, if people aren't familiar with it, they could care less about it.
depends on the music policy of the clubnight, not even the club itself, but whatever promoter is in the club on that night. If it's a niche club night aimed at fans of this kind of music, they'll go wild. Like Northern Soul in the 70s. But 90% of 'todays clubs' won't be interested in this. It's only a 'classic' to aficionados of this genre. I play 'todays clubs' every weekend and most people do lose interest in a song very quickly if they aren't familiar with it, not everyone but most, I agree with you. What's 'umm, yeah, no' all about? Are you agreeing or disagreeing or just making noises in your throat?

Absolutely 1 of a kind..ahead of its time by light years.
Sadly underrated
Awesome! Those were the days. The very end of the Disco era and called Electro in NYC.

I wonder what they were smoking when they put this masterpiece together. Stunningly beautiful song. Ahead of its time for sure.
one of my fave Prelude tracks. prefer the long version though

@PAMAROSHOUSE

Nice vocals by Arlene Gold. Do you have "I Want My Daddy" by Arlene Gold?
@dannyneedshelp

@dannyneedshelp
This would be categorized under Funk, pehaps or freestyle, but NOT disco.
Agreed, it's not really a traditional song structure. The song is still bangin though!
