Final Mystery: When I decided to finish this record I was at my studio at the time, I put up the record and listened to what Keith Cohen and I had cut, Keith is a great guy and a great engineer, but during the original session I didn't think that I had produced a great record, I was rushing because of the micro-budget I had to cut the six song ep at studio center in 3 days. It is a Roland I wiped the EH, I needed it to have the tone and feel that I was using on City of Doom at the time.
Because it was used on the original recording, But I wasn't happy with the original, so I revisited the original tapes and started cleaning up the tracks, I called "Allen Davis" Formula 6 is his band, He is my dear friend from childhood, we changed everything we didn't get right the first time, Including Vocoder parts, with me engineering on a Soundcraft 2400 series console. I mixed this version with my good friend Amos Larkins III, for Sterlark Holmes Productions, when we work together!
Hello RUclipsrs, I'm the guy that wrote and produced this record many many years ago, Before I go any further let me solve the mystery about the lyrics It's me saying them so for sure you can trust me! " You never, You never heard of the Formula 6 Band, but the funk, the funks going to be just a little more than you can stand.
Remember MIDI was still in its infancy nearly two years old at the time, no DJ's in the studio, no Midi tracks, no sequencers, drum machines were big, but still just layin it down to tape. 24 Track MCI JH16 going through an MCI 428b that belonged to Gary Vandy.
lol you guyz may have been the DJ's and mixers of the day,but all i remember is playing on my commodore 64 and atari 2600 while listening to this music.Thanx for the music that was good stuff back then.
Hello Dean: I hope all is well with you, When you find that record, you will find that it was released from my company, But feel free to post it. On the subject of post, a few of mine are missing from here, One in particular where I explained why I needed to readdress this record, I also acknowledged the use of your EH, on the original session, And for sure I appreciated you bringing it. (TBC)
Thats my vocoder on that song, an EH vocoder and a Korg Poly 6. Michael Stirling actually did the part. Joe Galdo on Simmons drums and Frank Cornelius on Bass I believe.
Anyway, I had a micro-budget, 3 days to cut a 6 song EP on Formula 6, I spent my budget on the project,we worked as fast as we could, This included Tracking, Vocals and mixing, It was a labor of love for me because these guys were childhood friends of mine, I went to studio center because of the Live drums primarily, I like the sound of the room, But in the end I had failed myself, I wasn't happy, I had worked to fast.
I also tried a Korg, VC-10 is what I think it was called, it was an all in one device and I can't remember if we kept anything from it or not on this record. that was so long ago... MS
This has been one of my favorite songs for over a year. Formula 6 truly locked into a groove with this one. Did they release other tracks or can someone connect me to similar music? Gratitude and love from STL, MO
Still have my copy and loved those days at Studio Center. During that same time there was another song "Lets take a chance on love" I think was the title. During the same week, maybe a different band but very smooth cool ballad. Studio Center East is gone, but Studio Center West is still going strong with the same owner as the East studio. Being 21 at the time its led me to have my own studio and career. Would love to know if that multitrack master of this song is at the West studio.
whoa there, its really not good to get people thatttt excited with that crazy description. 'fairly decent, loved this one for a while, miami apparently...' haha :D electro!!!!
Really? Wow...I never knew anyone could give Frank a run for the money like that. Frank Cornelious was and Joe Galdo was on session I played on back then. Do you have Donkey Kong (Catch you in the break) by Michael? If so you should load it up and add to the collection here. A nice Prophet T8/vocoder on that one..done at International Sound on 163rd st. Miami. Great room, also gone. That song did well down here....anyone remember it?
So this is how the story ends, Quick note, I hope we misunderstood you, when you said that you laid down the vocoder performance, as in you performed on the record... anyway almost a year later I called "Allen Davis" Formula 6 is his band, we got together at Import Studios and took our time fixing whatever we didn't like with me engineering using a Soundcraft 2400 series, I mixed this record with my good friend Amos Larkins III at TK for Sterlark Holmes Prod. that's us when we work together!
what are the lyrics?? "what the fuck? the fuck's it going to me??" i believe it sounds like that!! any help would be appreciated! (obviously lyrics not in electronic effect i can understand)
