Since Dairies have moved into this area, the corn for grain is very much smaller. Now it takes 35 minutes to go 7 to 10 miles to unload and then back to the field. I never liked waiting in line. + 45 cent basis is the best ever.
I like that card system the have for scanning info - makes it alot easier than explaining who you are every time. Love the time lapses you do of the journey with the truck. Great video as always Ryan!
Pretty much all the big industrial outfits use that now... We hauled beans to Poet in North Manchester, IN and they had a similar system, as did the corn plant down in Franklin... Later! OL J R :)
I'am 3hrs from Dubuque my uncle lives 20 min. on past Dyersville. If you like farm toys you need to go to the National Farm Toy Show in Dyersville. A group of 9 used to go from around my home we had a blast. It is usually the first weekend in November. I don't know if it has been canceled do to Covid. Two of the elevators I use have gone to the card system one is almost the same as what you ran into the other uses one the size of a credit that has a chip in it, works great.
I work as a contractor at an ethanol plant. The modified DDG is by far the worst. Sticks to tires, leaves nasty juices and stains, and smells quite unique to say it nicely! Great video!
The greatest thing about this video is listening to my friends tell me my tv screen is dirty and then watch them try to clean off the bugs that are on your window. hehehehe You gave me a great laugh today.
choosing 1 or 2...1 or 2...oh the suspense! lol :) Loved the ride back..always love that footage, wherever your going, or coming from. Any chance to get a tour of the place sometime for edumacational purposes? Maybe they'd take you around, to help get the word out what they do there. Thanks for another great video, Ryan!!!!!!!!
And that door rattling that’s why they call them freight shakers look at your door check the hinges and the striker to see if they’re worn a very inexpensive fix
Hey Ryan, you should try the new SW Arterial next time you go through Dubuque. Might save some time bypassing Dodge Street. Take it most days myself and cuts off a lot of traffic nonsense and all those darn stoplights.
I still surprised that they originally built Big Red without Jakes. I would have thought all OTR sleepers would have them as standard just from a safety standpoint. Definitely seems that having your own truck provides a lot more convenience in your haulage and timing, even with the added bother and expense of maintenance. A friend farms 2000+ acres of corn and soybeans in the Dakotas. With the need for multiple trucks always running he describes life as "öperating a trucking business with short interludes of plowing and combining". His farm manager is a live-in full-time truck and equipment mechanic, with local hires for drivers. America's farms, where OTR tucks go when they retire.
In Iowa you can weigh 90,000 lb. during harvest. Don't know if Wisconsin has the same deal or not. I average over 1100 bushels of corn on my truck. It has been that way since March, thanks to the Covid-19 scare. Best year trucking ever! And I have been doing it since 1977.
Its actually a light. You'll see Travis almost always has one on too. They got it a year or two ago and they swear by them now. Definitely looks more like a body cam though than a light so I can see the confusion lol
They having it this year?? That's cool. Wish I could go... Had a blast there years ago. Went to the Spec-Cast company store to get a big 1/8 scale Farmall M I wanted for awhile, but they were closing up. Little unassuming older gentleman in a turtleneck was about to leave, said they didn't have one, but he offered to help me get one over at the other office since I was all the way up from Texas. We went over and no joy, so he offered to take me into the factory, since they often pull some periodically off the line for quality inspections and store them upstairs above the office. He asked me if I wanted it boxed, because these would be unboxed and most collectors want them "in the box" because they're worth more, and I said, "No, that's fine!" So we went in and rummaged around a bit and found one. We returned to the office and he wrote me a receipt and I dug out my envelope of travelling cash and paid him cash for it since the computers and credit card readers were already all turned off for the day, and we got to chatting. Turns out I was talking to Joe Ertl III, the owner of the company! He reminded me of my grandpa-- TOTALLY unassuming and down to earth-- he was even driving an old like late-80's Ford Econoline van, not some fancy new pickup or fancy car... I thanked him profusely, because I literally caught him just about going out the door, and he didn't have to do all that bother for me, but he did! I asked him to sign the back end of the tractor, which he graciously did. I thanked him again and told him how we'd just bought a new Ford 5610 the year before and the DEALER selling us a REAL tractor hadn't gone to that much trouble for us... he just smiled and said, "Well, we always built our business on keeping the customer happy!" VERY nice guy!!! Later! OL J R :)
@@lukestrawwalker yes they are, I'm surprised they are! The school is off limits this year I guess so all the displays in the school will be in the american home assembly plant , I'm thinking it will be a good year to buy!
Seems like you work your tail off trying to crank those grain doors open on your trailer. Do new trailers take so much effort? Just looks like it's a struggle. Thanks for the video Ryan!
Money wise, is it worth driving down there every once in awhile (lower base, but additional fuel costs getting there). Also, are the deductions similar? One is being used directly for fuel, so I was wondering if the standards are the same.
hey ryan awsome video i really like when u take trips in big red its lot of fun to watch really enjoy it i see u are getting better at stick awsome thumbs up and shared
Hello. That's a nice length of jolly in the lorry. Mind you it does give you enough time to think about the jobs needing done on the lorry as your driving it on a long drive 😲🙄😜 nervous? 😉 Great video and nice seeing some of your surrounding areas out with home turf. Thanks.

Ryan in the 60s 70s and 80s I fed by product out of Jack’s beer in New Orleans I actually started out with a dump trailer and a Seamit mixer because I only milk 50 cows as I grew eventually got into a mixing wagon and I paid $20 for 2 tons and I had to go to New Orleans to get it because that’s where the brewery was and it was mostly oats because there is was a oats bass beer they didn’t have a lot of volume so when the pig farmers found out about it I actually quit because the cops got up to $120 a ton and Jack’s told me they were making more money off of the byproduct then they were off the beer and telling you this I wonder how much does that corn cost coming out of that ethanol plant and wouldn’t justify feeding it to feedlot steers would it be cost-effective to feed them out using this
Definitely something he should look into. Might be more cost-effective to sell the corn and buy the DDG to feed than keep the corn and feed it. DDG has higher protein than corn, but less energy per bushel than corn, so it depends on what you need it for. Higher protein in the animal ration builds muscle faster for more weight gain, BUT in winter you need higher energy in the ration to meet the energy demands of the livestock. DDG is about roughly like soybean meal for protein, so actually a better livestock feed for rate of gain then straight corn, but it depends on how you get your energy source in your ration... Later! OL J R :)

I got a huge chuckle out of your I hate traffic , come to the west coast then you will truly hate traffic !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I drive those roads often. Great video.

I know some farmers haul to Dyersville for the same reason. Had a good one, hope all is going good.
Gotta love FreightShaker doors! Get a new striker pin.
Awesome time lapse
Love the video on Trip to the Ethanol plant .
Traffic??? Haha, you don't know what traffic is if you think that's traffic. Great Video Ryan.
Welcome to the BRR, I drive for them in Illinois, haul to the plant in Galva, Illinois and West Burlington, Iowa.
I love driving by the gluten pile whenever I’m there it smells so good
Great video as always hope the truck is treating u well
07:40 - Where Farming Simulator meets American Truck Simulator 😁
Long drive home there
Saw you on 151 in Big Red on Friday as I was making a trip down to the Wisconsin side of the dam.
You got big red- yes you do
Forget that traffic- just push on thru.

our anderson's in colwich,ks is set up the same way.. but they also take waste wood for heat and power generation...
When you said you hate sitting in traffic, I was literally two blocks to your right. At my place of business.
We have a Grey Semi it’s a day cab just like Big Red though and we put a big 10 inch exhaust on it and man does that Cummins Sound good and it is loud
I feel lucky. Our local feed mill runs $.98 basis right now and we can make round trip in less than an hour.
Traffic??? Come to Long Island, NY if you want to see traffic! Lol. Love the video
Awesome video and even better timelapse! I noticed the scale at 151 and 11 was closed. I always thought that was a heck of a place for a scale.

Hopefully by the end of the month u can turn a faster load into dyersville. The roundabout project by the ethanol plant has been going on forever
Great Video! That's my hometown. The exit off of US 20 has changed since I have been there. I would take X49 to get to old 20 to go on to Petersburg.

John, you are now officially famous.
Awesome time lapse on the trip home!

Clip 2:16 Ryan, You forgot to inspect the wiper blades on the pre-trip! Great video though!
I’m from Dyersville and saw you when you where in town! Hell ya! The grain bins are absolutely massive!
The modified ddg storage is what my grandpa Hauls! I think it’s so cool to see your home town! Go there all the time with my grandpa

With having the commodity trailer, maybe you could back haul DDG for the elevator.
That and for themselves to feed out calves in lots.
I'm right next to you in Nebraska

What’s a lower base mean?
Great Vlog, Interesting Drive including the gravel road, impressed with the card ID system, thanks
Awesome time lapse music.
Good stuff
Hi Ryan Travis Brittney,
Hannah &mom
Ryan, have you or are you going to attempt to fix the dump gates on your trailer, so they are easier to open ? Thank you.
A little exercise is good for you after sitting for an hour and a half!
We have a ethonal plant here in havelock Ontario
Iowa. Roads are gravel or concrete.
Well, a little asphalt , too. And in our area are several dirt roads.
Would you ever replace big red if you had to replace it
I'm from Dyersville, I can't remember how many loads i hauled in there, a lot.
I am from Dyersville! I know, “cool story bro” but was wondering if you would run into someone I knew. Nope.
Have you thought of using an electric drill to open the gate or are they not hex nut openings?
At least it’s not a frac sand plant. I may be passing thru your area to go to Cabelas soon.
You need to be feeding DDG to your cattle my cattle love it
They getting fat from it?
fascinating!! Black tanker RR cars mystery solved! Ahem....could their lanes be narrower??? I am inhaling!!
Good stuff Ryan, Thankyou:):)

What your hauling range???? It's 150 air mile with extra 10% here in TN/KY... can go 88 on state roads only

just almost could see where i live in the time laps
Looks like yal need to invest in automatic dump doors Ryan
At least invest in some WD40.
We had that issue with our hopper bottom it just took new roller berings to fix that issue
