Just got my Freewell Brightday PL/ND 4-pack delivered today! I will flying over water a lot working on a Oyster Farming video project. Thanks for the great vids!!!
The Mini is an awesome little drone! With these filters it really looks stunning, I wish I was back on the Seychelles now that it has manual settings in video and these awesome filters! Thanks for the support, it means the world to me 🔥
Should i get the ND + the NDPL? Or can i use the NDPL and play with the PL on and off? I mean isn't ND 16 is exactly the same as NDPL 16 on 3/9 o'clock?
Thank you for sharing I want to buy a Dji Mavic Mini 2 and ( Freewell or PGYTECH ) filter for Dji Mavic Mini 2. Which filter do you recommend me. normal filters ND or ND_PL. And Which filter is better?
Thank you! Great video! (When you view objects, it is too close to your lighting. And it burns the image immediately) Of course, this is a constructive note. Thanks anyway!
Thank You! Yes, sometimes when I show products off too close to the camera they get a touch overexposed due to how close my softbox is, I need to pull back a little, totally true!
Hi Phillip, I've been binge watching this morning having just got my Mini 2! I don't have filters yet but can I change any other settings to help in the meantime? ISO? Sorry not a photographer really :)
Hi Chris, until you get your filters, there really isn't much you can do, unless you're flying in the evenings. I made another video with the Mini 2 and filters, when you get them, I'd recommend checking it out.
Hi Phillip, thanks for the video. I have a Mini 2 for a while now and want to get some ND and CPL filters. I understand the use of them, however the All Day 8 pack is not available at Amazon Germany (I live in Austria). They have the Standard Day 4 pack and the Bright Day 4 pack. The Standard Day 4 pack just goes from 4,8 to 16 and has one CPL and the Bright day has 8,16,32 and 64, however, each in combo with a CPL. What would you recommend? Coz I feel I would need a 32 ND as well, however the Standard pack does not have that one.
Great video! Got my mini 2 yesterday, now I am planning to get ND filters as well, do you always fly with ND filter even when it is cloudy out or you only use them when it's sunny?
Thank You! Yes, I fly with filters every single time I'm out, unless it's dark. I've done quite a few videos recently on ND filters, they all apply to the DJI Mini 2, check them out, under each one I have filters I use and highly recommend for the Mini 2.
Can u tell me if I'm wrong ? It's for my mavic mini. Freeweel ND filter 4 : sunset/sunrise, ND 8 : sun+cloud, ND 16 : Sunny day. I ask this question bc I failed my sunset record yesterday (too dark). I choosed nd4 (smallest) but of course it's my fault, EV was -2 or -2,3 (i don't remember) so of course it will be too dark, (iso 100, shutter 1/60, 30fps). I probably should increase iso to 300/400 to have EV value arround 0 but I don't like to have iso > 100
Sure. Sunset sunrise I don't use filters as it's usually too dark. ND16 cloudy sunny day. If you check out one of my latest films about flying in freezing conditions, the start is at ISO 3200, and sure, it's a little soft sometimes, but it does the job. Get the shot, even if you have to bump the ISO. I shoot ISO 100 25fps 1/50th, the only thing I change is the ISO, and I add Freewell ND filters during the day.
Great video man, now that the mini has manual control I look forward to picking up these filters. Just a quick question though. I noticed at 6:49 there is a strange orb reflection on the island....is this due to the filter? Thanks
Yes, these really help! They give the footage a very cinematic look, I'm very happy with them! That reflection must be from the drone, as I saw it a few times and it was when the sun was blasting down at me whilst I was panning, I've seen it before without the filter though, even on my Mavic 2 Pro, so I guess it's about how the sun hits the lens sometimes. Crazy effect!
I've the 8 pack of Freewell and 3 out of 5 CPL filters damaged 2 places of my camera bezel due to sharp alumium edges from the inside where the screws are mounted. (sharp metal and plastic don't go well). The ND filters are different produced where the screws are and those are fine. Besides that the cpl versions don't fit tight on the camera and 2 of the 5 that I've are very loose. Again the 3 ND versions fit better and they even make a little click sound when mounting them on and of the camera. Besides that somethimes the gimbal buzzez continuously loudly from the filters load. Gimbal still functions but I don't think it's a good sign for the long term. More people have this issue but no reviewer (who are getting them for free) highlights this topic. It looks like they unitily shush on this issue. One person (user) contacted Freewell about this issue but they blamed the user. Sunnylife filters are lighter, have the best mounting mechanism with a click and they don't damage the camera bezel. I find the glass on the Freewell ND better than sunnylife. The Freewell CPL versions deform overall footage (colour, contrast) becouse the CPL reacts continue differently due to different filming angles and light) but they are oke for specific scene that you want to capture tho.
I don't know, I just fly this thing. I stick the filters on, they do their thing, if they give me any problems I'll give the gimbal a good slap, if they scratch I scratch them back and if they don't fit I bend them into place. Of course, every polarising filter will change its polarisation as you yourself change angle, that's a given. I say just fly it.
@@GeoDandrew I use the Sony a7III for 99% of my footage. The Pocket 2 is a great choice 2, it has lots of interesting features that will help you film, the follow mode is superb!
Well, that depends on what you're using them on, it'll vary from surface to surface and angles, it's all about dialling it in till you feel it's perfect for you.
You're welcome. Ahh the 32 I use in almost full sun, the 64 in full blast sun. For sunsets it's really hard as the sun just burns a hole in the image, I'd probably go with the 4, though that might be a tad too dark if you're filming. The Mini doesn't handle such bright spots as the sun too well, but if there is cool cloud coverage and the sky is full of funky colours, I'd probably keep the 4 on and play with the iso if needed.
Thank You! Yes, they do, using them everyday on the Mini 2, work with no problems at all. Actually dropping a video this weekend with the on the Mini 2.
Sure you can, but you'll still have jittery over-sharpened footage. Filters are the professional way to go, it's always better to do what you can in camera rather than pissing about in post. Keeping to the 180 rule you have a certain look and feel that is very natural. I always use filters to keep my footage looking natural and clean, I suggest others do too.
Hi Phil, I’m a recreational hobbyist with a Mini 1, I hear Freewell all the time when I’m watching RUclips drone vids. How do you rate other brands and also what do you think of the standard day 4 pack? That’s the one with the ND 4, 8, 16 and a CPL filter. Worth a go given my amateur knowledge or should I save up for the 8 pack you have? Hope you can help a gal out :)
So Freewell for me is the best when it comes to the Mini 2, I've tried all the others. The only other company can honestly recommend is PolarPro, but they never made filters for the Mini 2 and I think that was a bad move as they sold like hot cakes. I use the ND8, ND16, ND32 and a sometimes the ND64 in tropical climates. There are moments when I stick on PL versions but I've been burnt a few times whilst rushing and got vignetting so I've stopped using those unless I'm sure it's on properly and checked.
@@PhillipSkraba Thank you so much for your wisdom! That’s made up my mind then to go for the standard day pack as I’m only ever in the UK. ND4, 8 and 16 should do me fine plus the CPL for flying over water, glass and my dad’s head 🤣
I would recommend going for the 4 box set I have linked, it comes to $15 a filter, so you more or less get one free. You can no doubt find cheaper filters, but that'll mean you're placing cheap glass in front of your lens, which will lower image quality. I'd buy once and properly if I were in your shoes. I believe the saying "we're not rich enough to buy cheap things" fits perfectly here.
@@alexgreer1479 Sure, that would give you more or less everything you'd ever need. I think though starting off, the 4 pack is more than enough, as long as you have an ND8, ND16 and ND32 you should be covered for most situations.
Have you noticed any red ring in your footage ? And sometimes when facing the sun it might appear ? Also, does the gimble set itself properly as i have heard the 64, its a bit heavy compared to the 16 lets say when the drone powers up ? You can hear the difference when powering on with the 64 then the 16. The 32 apparently can be a bit hit and miss too when the drone powers on ?? . 1 person said the red ring glare only happens if the nd is not correctly fitted. In another video, it was said and shown the nd filter fitted correctly and still a red glare in footage. I wanted to buy these myself but this red ring and glare issue put me off.
I've been testing these for around 2 months now in various conditions and I had a problem once when I didn't click the nd/pl on to the lens correctly so it was vignetting on the sides, this was my fault, so I brought the Mini down, clicked it on securely and flew out. I've tried every single one of these filters on my Mini, though I've mainly used the nd/pl 32 and 64, and had absolutely no problems in my experience. IF you fidget with the gimbal to turn the polariser and you're a little too extreme whilst doing it the gimbal will go crazy and possibly vibrate, in this case turn the drone off and back on and it'll be fine. I can honestly recommend these filters, they're really great and do make a difference now we have manual control in video mode. Thanks for dropping by 🔥
Hey, there never heard of vibration issues with our filter unless installation error. That red issue yes we had in a small number of units but long been solved now.
@@FreewellGear Thanks for that guys 🔥 I had no issues at all, apart from when I didn't attach it correctly I got some vignetting, so my fault - user error. I noticed it straight away, snapped it in place correctly and it was fine, as you can see from all the footage - the filters do a fantastic job. Thanks for the support, it means a lot to me 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Hey Phill, long time no text. I am looking out for new filters from my current 29 dollars for 4 filters set. Do you recommend any best filter out there or have you only dealt with freewheel filters for my mini2? If you've tried any others what is your opinion on brands and none famous brands.
Hi! Sure, I've tried all the brands out there, and the only ones I use on the Mini 2 are Freewell. On other drones I use Freewell and PolarPro, but for the Mini 2 as PolarPro don't make any, I'd go with Freewell, once and properly.
I tried these CPL filters on my mini 2 and no matter what I did the bottom left and right corners of the video had a dark shadow. Do you have any ideas what I did wrong
I sometimes get that when I'm attaching them in a hurry and haven't locked and loaded them fully. I usually try to check this before take off. Check your screen when you have them on, press it in place and it should be fine, best to do it in photo 4:3 mode, then you know it's perfect!
Yes, if you find the right place, it's pretty damn amazing. The mountains and the seaside are great, otherwise it's quite flat and not that easy to get a good perspective, but we do what we can.
Well, it's not really about them being better, as both are designed for slightly different situations. I use the 32 or 64 for full blast sun, the 16 I use when there is cloudcover and the sun is trying to burst through.
When I put these on my MM2, sometimes I hear the camera like trying to fight the filter - like the filter is pushing down the camera - is that normal? I don’t think it is
I really need this nd filter for my mini 2, its a must to use a nd on a drone, otherwise its very hrd to get smooth footage.. but its so fustrating that no e of these r available in amazon india .. none 🤯 .. its a curse to be a filmmaker in india
That’s impossible to answer. One day I go out and it’s super sunny so ND32, the next day cloudy as hell so ND8, sometimes cloudy sunny so ND16. It’s a hard choice. UK weather, maybe an ND16 if someone really pushed me, and if it got too dark I’ll bump the iso.
@@PhillipSkraba Thank you. I figured that would be the answer lol. I just bought the drone and didn't want to pull the trigger on the 8 pack filter kit. Was thinking of just purchasing the single ND16/PL. Thanks again. Cheers
haha, well, DJI just dropped an update where you can control where your Mini 2 is looking when you press RTH. So you can press it and basically control where it's facing whilst it's flying back to you.

@@PhillipSkraba Thanks Bud, always can count on your advise of wisdom my brother. I will order the freewell then.
@@judas74205 That's your best bet by far. It's a once and properly decision!
did you use any colour correction / colour balance in post on those takes or were they raw from the dji with just the filter?
No, not on these shots no. Usually I do though, here I just wanted to show the difference.
@@PhillipSkraba awesome thanks for that. Do you think the 8 pack is necessary or would the 4 pack be enough? (Doesn’t have the nd-pl filters in it).
I think you'll be fine with the 4 pack honestly, unless you really feel the need for the CPL filters.
Phillip, Just one question, are you Polish or American/English? 😁
Your accent is fenomenal 😁
Hi Marcin, well, I was born in London, lived there 24 years, but my blood is Polish, and I've lived on and off in Poland for the last 16 years.
Poland, fantastic place to use mini 2 😁
Yes, if you find the right place, it's pretty damn amazing. The mountains and the seaside are great, otherwise it's quite flat and not that easy to get a good perspective, but we do what we can.
Which one is better 16/pl or 32/pl?
Well, it's not really about them being better, as both are designed for slightly different situations. I use the 32 or 64 for full blast sun, the 16 I use when there is cloudcover and the sun is trying to burst through.
Do you know where these can be brought in the UK, can't find them anywhere...
They are currently sold out in a lot of places, Freewell is trying to get them back in stock. You can buy them separately here - amzn.to/3nLk8F6
When I put these on my MM2, sometimes I hear the camera like trying to fight the filter - like the filter is pushing down the camera - is that normal? I don’t think it is
It shouldn’t. Make sure it’s on well, clicked in place and calibrate your gimbal. See if that fixes it.
Where did you buy the filters?
You’ll find links to them below in the description of the video.
I really need this nd filter for my mini 2, its a must to use a nd on a drone, otherwise its very hrd to get smooth footage.. but its so fustrating that no e of these r available in amazon india .. none 🤯 .. its a curse to be a filmmaker in india
No way! Amazon doesn't send to India? How about Ebay?
I've got a UV filter not put it on yet.
You might not notice any visual difference with the uv but it might come handy when protecting the lens 👌🏻
@@PhillipSkraba Thanks mate. I'll try it out one day maybe... please could you subscribe to my channel i have yours already. Much appreciated 👍
Can you link me to the pack of filters?
Sure, I’ll do that in a minute, totally forgot, thanks for the heads up 🔥
@@PhillipSkraba Thanks! :)
Duotang can I the name of these filters cheers
If you could pick one filter or have a filter you use most often.. What would it be?
That’s impossible to answer. One day I go out and it’s super sunny so ND32, the next day cloudy as hell so ND8, sometimes cloudy sunny so ND16. It’s a hard choice. UK weather, maybe an ND16 if someone really pushed me, and if it got too dark I’ll bump the iso.
@@PhillipSkraba Thank you. I figured that would be the answer lol. I just bought the drone and didn't want to pull the trigger on the 8 pack filter kit. Was thinking of just purchasing the single ND16/PL.
Thanks again.
Cheers
I use the 8 kit all the time, but if someone had to force me I'd go with the ND16, however in sunny sunny weather it would be too little.
@@PhillipSkraba thank you
dji mini 2 does not turn around when i press home button
You have to press and hold it, and it should RTH.
@@PhillipSkraba it RTH backwards
@@BorisGorelik It flew backwards to you??
is there a setting for it LOL HELP!!!!! please LOL
haha, well, DJI just dropped an update where you can control where your Mini 2 is looking when you press RTH. So you can press it and basically control where it's facing whilst it's flying back to you.
Great video about the Freewell filters👍🙏👌use the Freewell Bright Day Pack ND-PL filters (mostly the ND-16PL) and these filters can give great results when used in the right circumstances. I subscribed to your channel. If you are interested in the video’s I made with the Mini with and without the Freewell Bright Day Pack you can watch my video’s on my YT channel Gekol Drone Video’s. Greetings from The Netherlands!
Thank You! Yes, these filters really make a difference to the footage so I'm really happy to be using them. Sure, I'll jump over and check out your channel as soon as I get some free time. Greetings from Poland!
Phillip Skraba, You’re welkome om my channel. Have a good weekend!
Can't say I think much about your over exposed video here on noobtube!
Can't say I give a rats ass about your thoughts on my over-exposed video 🤷🏻♂️
