- HEY HEY HEY!
Welcome back for another video! In this one, we are going to discuss how to best detangle your 4C hair so that you keep your sanity. This method works AMAZINGLY well for me and I typically have minimal breakage. Keep in mind that shedding is 100% normal. We shed on average 50-100 stands a day.
When I detangle my hair this way, I am able to quickly do it, without feeling like I have to sit and comb through my hair for hours. I am also tender headed so I try to avoid ripping through me hair. It takes me about 2.5 hours to do my entire wash day routine, including dentangling and moisturizing.
How do you detangle your hair?

“We have Type 4 hair and we should act accordingly.” 😂 YES. Great video. I do these things as well. Makes life so much easier.
LOL facts!
😂😂😂
Act accordingly lol
Shed hairs are agents of chaos on wash day!
I mean... these are the facts 👌🏾
I get atleast 4 good handfuls everytime
@@PaleTears-jj3nnI thought I was crazy having to clean out my brush more then once on wash day 😂
@@PaleTears-jj3nnglad to know I’m not the only one 😂
Detangling is like a huge fight for me. That tip about holding the ends while scrubbing the roots is a BIG help. Definitely will be doing that from now on. Thanks Sis.
Yess! Let me know how it goes!
Jenn Jackson you just almost turned 2020 around for me by replying! 🤩 I’m quite literally a new subscriber with just a few weeks under my belt.
I was doing it all wrong 😭😭 that’s why I had a hard time detangling and so much breakage. Also because I didn’t have enough patience lol. Thank you so much for this!!!! ❤
Patience is key!
Me too, I didn’t have a clue! Whew!
This is crazy helpful for me. Thank you for the information. I have my mixed (AA / White) daughter for the summers and by the time she gets to me, her hair is crazy tangled. Her mom is AA and wears a fade style low cut because she hates doing her own hair. She washes my daughters hair maybe once a month if she's lucky. Every time I try to talk to her about my daughters hair, it turns into an argument because she says I don't know what I'm talking about. Ever since out divorce, I've tried to keep her hair moisturized when she is with me, but I always run into issues detangling and parting. Everyone can see her hair is too damaged and dry except her. I spent over 3 hours in the bath with her trying to detangle but I got nowhere. My fiance tried to help but when we got to scalp, it was too overwhelming. We are planning to try again in a few days when she is off from work and have more time to get it done. I'm going to "attempt" to follow your tips and advice and hopefully get it done as gentle as possible. She does have a VERY tender scalp.
Yippee! A father that cares!
Do you have a natural hair salon where you live? Maybe you can take her for a wash, treat, detangle, and get her hair braided, so by the time your daughter comes back to you, it will be time for her to get her hair braided down again. While she has the braids in, her hair can be washed or conditioned and rinsed. I usually keep my braids in 1-2 months, but I know some people who keep them in longer, with little breakage.
However, this would require you to maybe carry her to the salon more often than when you have her in the summer if possible. :)
ugh same here with the the tender scalp aka tenderheaded im 17 now and ive grown out of my screaming, crying, and running away from my mom phase
but sometimes the tears just roll out uncontrollably lol
Your divorced ex wife is weird for that
good luck i hope now a things better
3 years later and this video hits like grits. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this detailed, informative breakdown.
Glad it was helpful!
The "that washing motion don't work for our skin tone" is gold and sooooo true. I caught your driff and had to subscribe.😂😂
We have type 4 hair and we're going to act accordingly! LOL! I second the MOTION
Lmao 🙌🏽
My ends are soo thick, I could detangle my hair wet and then when it drys my ends are tangled again
This video is helpful for EVERYONE. as a hairstylist in cosmetology school they did not each us so this is helpful and critical!
It's like you're giving your hair love and tenderness. As a black man with 4c hair who would like to grow it out, thank you so much
I appreciate this video and your transparency about shedding hair because that is the most stressful part for me as a 4c girl. I definitely need to start washing my hair in sections though lol. Thanks for this video!!!
You are so welcome! Shedding is normal. I always try to emphasize it. x
Try prepoo with oil, castor oil and Brahmi oil is great. I then wash with Hello Hydration shampoo while my hair is in a bun. I take it down to put deep conditioner in. I also use deep condition products with fenugreek and oils that encourage hair growth. KCurlsys.com has great natural hand made deep conditioners and oils. This has limited my shedding tremendously.
Thanks, I will check it out👍🏾
Starting the detangling process in the pre-poo process is KEY, especially for me bc my hair is so dense/thick. Recently I’ve gotten really good at detangling though so wash days in general have become a lot less stressful for me. And I have to thank you for that bc you helped me establish a routine that WORKS and now I enjoy washing/taking care of my hair. So thanks Jenn!!
That’s amazing. Thanks for letting me know ❤️
Thank you! Today is wash day so this is perfect timing! I’ve been concerned about my shedding so thanks for sharing yours through each step!!
I'm just starting the detangling process... So glad that I found your video. Will definitely keep you posted
Wow! This has been THEE most helpful and informative video on washing & detangling 4c hair! Thank you 🥰
Thank you for this video. I was getting so discouraged with my natural hair journey but you have given me new hope. I'm definitely try this next time for my hair.
This bar none is the best detangling video of 4c hair, PERIOD!!
Congrats on that strong 100k Queen. Great tips. Let's all keep our sanity.
We are so close to 100k I cant wait.
I always detangle when I prepoo,
WE AREE!!!!!
I actually feel so validated about the tangle teezer- I couldn't figure out why on earth I was getting breakage at my roots and more split ends. Switching to hands + Unbrush. Great video
OMG I needed this video for my son's hair. It's down his back now and I don't want him losing length or having split ends and breakage. You are heavenly, THANK YOU!!
3:38 Ok but how are you prettier without makeup no fr that transition had me like😯😍😍😍
This is a video every with hair in the 4 range needs to watch re: DETANGLING, you discuss the full arsenal to strategically address detangling from a ‘least damage perspective’ 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Omg I'm so glad I found you, finally something that's starting to work for me! I detangled today using this method and I FINALLY DIDN'T RIP OUT MY HAIR. It gets so tangled and matted. Now I can do this journey the right way! Thank you!
This was a really helpful video. Thank you Jenn 💞
Great video and advice! I've learned soo much since I started following you! ❤
Thank you so much for this video! ❤️ I thought it was just me having to continuously detangle my hair throughout the entire washday process. I was also very nervous about how much shed hair was coming out but seeing your hair seems pretty normal. I’ve learned to work in sections and definitely not to rush!
This was extremely helpful! I have short 4C hair, and while I've gotten better with detangling, I would try to do it all in one session, then get tired and eventually break my hair off a bit. I'm never going back to that! Thank you for these steps!!!
Once again, JennJ did NOT disappoint. Excellent content. Very, very helpful. Thanks so much.
Mel IsNatural21 glad it’s helpful! ❤️
i started finger detangling very recently and can I say I absolutely love it. I too do not even bother conditoning unless I am not in the mood for deep conditioning that week which is very rarw. My hair just never behaves the same unless I deep condition and specifically in the shower now. Plus I just love the way my hair feels. I work in four sections and preepooing is my best friend
Finally, someone who knows 4c hair. I had to subscribe! 💖
New subscriber, just did a big chop to go from relaxed hair to my natural 4c hair and came hair for tips to get back in the game.
love this video! I can't wait to create a hair playlist
Thank you for this video sis. Such a Queen!
This is exactly how I detangle my hair, except I used larger sections during the wash/condition process. I'll break them down to smaller sections when it's time to thoroughly detangle with the conditioner in.
This video was helpful Jenn♥️Thanks for the tips 😊 You look beautiful 😍
Happy You Shared.. “the holding the ends while scrubbing the roots” didn’t do that one yet. I stopped combing years ago, I think I comb my hair maybe 1/2 times a year 🤣 finger de tangling is life!!! Thanks for sharing 💕 new sub!
This is an EXCELLENT video on detangling with 4c hair, especially during the shampoo part which used to create knots for me.
Exactly! Glad it was helpful x
Hunni that makeup is a VIBE!!! Love the purple eyes 💜
Your accent is so subtle, yet so beautiful!

I luuuuv the Phillips Flexx brush with the aqua colored paddle teeth for my 4c hair. It's my fave follow up to fingers!
Thank you for the video. It was very easy to listen to your gentle voice. I love my hair. No more stressful wash days. God knitted me together in my mother's womb with this hair. I am determined to be grateful and thankful for all of me. Been natural since 2006. My eyes are open to my true beauty. I refuse to go back to sleep!!!

The motion- *finally understand why i get knots right after prepoo-ing it-*
Thanks for this tips sis. I just scribed to your channel. ❤
Thx for the video. I've been letting my hair grow out for over a year now and just didn't know much about taking care of it as I grew up just having it cut off.

Yeaaaaah!!! It's my girl Jenn j🥰🥰
Hey girl heyyy❤️
I don't even have a 4c hair but I find this kind of videos satisfying like an asmr
Same.
My hair always break when it is long another to be detangled, I just dont know how to deal with my hair, this makes me so sad, every year and half I end up cutting my hair because of the breakage due to bad detangling methods. Thanks for the video, I will just this. Bisous
Same here, my hit grows but breaks a lot because of the tangling. I am going to try her method and see if it helps me.
Great video i needed this😁 my 4c hair is so dense and coarse .But i also need some help on how to treat dandruff and dry hair 😬
Work in sections💡. Great tip, thanks!
You're welcome!
Thank you for the tips ur videos are always so interesting nd helpful, can you pls give us a tutorial of really simple easy to do hairstyles, i never know wat to do on my hair and im really not good with hairstyles, Ningi out here in South Africa
The Felicia Leatherwood brush was a game changer for me 🙌🏾
I can’t wait to try it.
Before I comment on the video,I want to say your makeup is beautiful. I have started implementing pre-poo b4 washing. I'm learning to use a diluted shampoo on my scalp instead of my scalp and hair. I try to wash in sections by my twists seems 😅 to unravel themselves. Great 📹!
Thanks for sharing!! I typically do a combination of twists and bantu knots to prevent my hair from unravelling
I hit like before even staring the video because I know this will be good
It’s real juicy girl!
I love this , thank you
Love ur curls in this video. Tutorial please
this helped a lot! thank you!
You're welcome! Glad it helped x
The way you put your fingers together like a comb..I’ve never seen that before. I’ll be using that in my next wash day thanks!
Yesss finger detangling is so helpful
Looking up how I can help my husband. Thank you for the strategy.
Question - what tool do you recommend for a TWA? Great informative video!
Love the purple eyes....and the hair , of course it's always poppin 🤩
