she played her game very well..in those early days..the reporter asks direct questions because that's her job, she wants real answers, she goes where most people would be uncomfortable.. that's exactly what miss lear wants and enjoy's..she tells different stories to reporters for pure confusion/image, she is much more (talents) than her past.. and she doesn't want to be THE example for the transpeople or talk about it,that's her right! she's bold,brave, beauty,doing her thing and still rocks!

The most persistent interviewer I've ever heard questioning her on this topic. Amanda is a tough cookie... she refuses to get roped into the interviewer's thread of thought. But she did lie a number of times and I think that's a shame. I understand why Amanda doesn't want to be known as "a transsexual" because it can be objectifying and limiting. Perhaps she feels that, if she owned up to it, she couldn't have accomplished all she did. Once you're known as trans, you become an oddity. :(

personally I believe she is a transexual woman, and that she has alway refused to admit that because in her beginnings her ambiguity helped her get through, and even after accomplishing success I think she was afraid of becoming a "case" and that her many talents might get lost behind her gender "issue". btw she has turned out to be very smart by not reveiling her secret, but at the same time enjoying the advantages of that.
