Not sure why everybody talking about taking out the bones... they are soft, edible and a source of calcium.
Agreed, although I usually take out the spinal column which is easy enough.
@@andysmith5464 that's the best bit!
Lol bones out for me
This is a useful recipe to have for those occasions when you have someone round for lunch you truly hate!
I can see some people coming back for more - watch out :)
@@ninjatastyFOOD I hope you realise that @DR.Fiendish may not be being complemetary?
This video was so peaceful to watch with the edits and close ups, plus the music.
But what in the what lol 😂 just onions and ketchup?
Try making a pilchards curry, add in ginger, garlic, spices (garam masala, turmeric, cumin, coriander powder or whatever you have), salt, chillies of preference (I prefer green but you can add chilli powder or chilli flakes), then add the ( I prefer deboned) pilchards and some peas with chopped coriander to garnish. Serve with rice 🤌🏼
we used to put them in a basin mash them up with a fork while adding malt vinegar and white pepper to taste! then spread it on hot toast
I like Horseradish sauce mixed into the fish.
pilchards are delicious, i tried them when i was in england in a curry, exact same brand with some rice. Very nice!
Wwwaaawww amazing 🤩 thank you very much for sharing my dear friend ❤️ 👍 👍
Gently remove the bones while leaving the fish intact and set aside.
Fry (use lard, or veg oil)1 large onion, garlic, ginger.
Add a can of tomatoes.
Add some chicken stock powder/cube to taste & salt and pepper.
Add chilli if you like the heat.
Add a pinch of sugar.
Gently cook for 5 minutes and add the deboned fish.
Try pouring the tin onto a plate and gently opening the fish and taking out the long thin bone that runs along the middle and then transfering the fish and sauce into a pot of freshly boiled potatoes.
Then mince the fish into the potatoes really well and let it all cool down, then form nice size fish cake's and fry slowly for about 15 minutes each side until you have a good colour on each side.
Then you will have the tastiest fish cakes ever !!!
Fish bones are the heathiest & most nutritious part containing extra-high levels of vitamin A, omega-3 fatty acids, iron, zinc and calcium.
The bones are extremely healthy and perfectly fine to eat. Why woukd you remove them?
way too fussy instructions just do it as one, it comes prepared why prepare it even more by fishing bones out of a fish thats been soaking in a tin of sauce for months that is meant to be eaten wuth the bones anyway.
Apparently tesco review said recently these red tin have been cooked in sunflower oil and heating during production process causes carcinogenic chems to be released scientists have warned about this since 1980s
Sounds lovely to be fare
This was a pleasure, thank you
I'd keep a secret too to be fair. I'll give a crack tomorrow to take to work. Work colleagues are going to love the smell of onions and pilchards in the van 😂

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ j'aime et j'adore
Very clever ❤
Thank you!
So it’s fried onion and a tin ?
Plus the water. Hardly earth shattering, but there must be under 70yrs who haven't even heard of Pilchards/Sardines, let alone eaten any. Very nutritious and happily, cheap.
And ketchup
Blimey what a long winded video to just say fry off an brown onions ,add in the pilchards and some ketchup
Mayonnaise ,tomato purée , lemon juice, pilchards..Mash all together and spread on toast , then all under grill until hot ..Same with sardines and take out the one central bone on pilchards and sardines.
just pour from the saucepan into the dish. stop wasting time.
Add some baked beans or mixed veggies to rev things up
seriously?! I need to give it a go.
Right so fry some onions add the pilchards and some ketchup? Wow that’s 4 minutes of my life I’m never getting back.
Half of the video was just chopping onions for Christ sake
Hope you enjoyed the dish!
That’s the secret to this dish! You’ve got it unlocked! Congrats!
I would definitely clean inside the guts and bones first, rather than not cleaning the pilchards, otherwise a good recipe 😊
Those bones are edible. Not sure about guts, thought they were removed before canning.
1:33 playing about with 2 onions you made me cry of boredom
People are put off by the English name. They are Cornish sardines. So good for you and cheap as....get involved.
Bet you i still mess it up 😅
Impossible!
Hey next time, open the tin of fish on plate, open the fish and remove the stomach... those can be toxic!!! Otherwise this looks delicious! Try adding yellow peppers with the onions, and some curry spices and a bit of honey instead of the ketchup
Thanks for the tip! Much appreciated, will definitely give those yellow peppers a go.
I also thought...why he doesn't clean it
he doesn't clean it because these pilchards are already prepared, cooked and ready to eat straight from the can. Why is this concept so alien to you all? Most tinned fish is ready to eat.
I remove the bones first before cooking them...
They are edible!
The bones in tinned Pilchards and Sardines are edible.
no removing of bones??
No need, pilchard bones are soft and edible.
Love the bones 😊
Jesus our eyes are burning
Hope you are now recovered?!
@@ninjatastyFOODnice one haha 😂😂😂
Ye ment to take the bond out the fish first lol
It's called bone and no you don't need to as tinned fish is cooked and pilchards sardines and salmon in a tin have very soft bones. They are also very good for you.
Yuk
or Yum?
You say yuk but have you tried it?
Not helpful. No idea how long the onions are going to take to cook or to what stage to cook them. Short of being caramelized? Also, how much ketchup I should use if I'm not going to use two fast food packets? How long does the entire thing take to cook? Also, the video could have been cut down by at LEAST two minutes if you took out the repetitive cutting and onion cooking. There was no need to make me watch all that and not give any specifics NOR write down the recipe anywhere.
Buy a tin of Pilchards in Tomato sauce. No need for the expence of sachets.
You can't work out you just fry onions, put the tin in with some tomato sauce and water? Jeez , how do you get out the front door?
@@77rmpwhy the front door?
@@sandie321 they were pilchards in tomato sauce, the added ketchup is (probably) to add a sour (vinegar) component to the sauce and intensify the tomato flavour.
