I have done many gearbox changes and clutch replacements - so its a good refresh - but the way you explain it for those who haven't done this is really impressive James - well done
It's an unwritten rule of working on vehicles...
You can always rely on the weather to make itself felt...
You can never have enough tools proper tools is half the job my dad used to say.
Wise guy
This is brilliant really enjoying the content James, You’ve done incredibly well with this gearbox rebuild considering you’re tackling it on the driveway and have never done one before well done mate respect 👌
As someone who has had their first car for 4 months and can only just about service it - It's great how easy you make even huge jobs like this understandable. Learning lots mate, thank you!
Because the gearbox was bone dry when installed, as well as having the car level or slightly tilted forward when filling, you could also have run it through the gears on axle stands to coat everything with gear oil inside the box including the gearbox walls and all the nooks and crannies.
That would have allowed the last 200ml to be poured in.
Well done on a really excellent series of videos. An absolute ton of work to do then to film and to edit into something entertaining.
Im in the middle of a rebuild and was trying to figure out how to fit my gearbox. With covid in full swing i couldn't get anyone to help and having a seperated ac shoulder joint meant that i needed to have to do it pretty much one handed. This idea along with the aid of a little ratchet strap made it a piece of piss to do in comparison to the struggle of getting it out whilst the engine was supported by a strap and wooden beam. Cheers for the idea 👍
15:00 that guitar body looks sick! great job! and great job on another brilliant video! 10/10
As I'm writing this I only have to bleed the clutch and put the battery tray and airbox back into the Octavia I've been working on. Sadly couldn't save the gearbox I had myself (ran out of oil and synchros got chewed up), but we put a used unit with fresh seals back in. The 4x4 versions are a nightmare to work on compared to the 2WD ones, especially if it's a TDI.
Your videos were of great help though and I wanted to let you know that.
Just lay on your back, roll box onto chest and wiggle up into place and pop couple bolts in
Really impressed you doing all this on your own - Usually gearbox is regarded as "don't open, buy a new one" - Real inspiration for me to have a go on clutch and gears.
A very nifty alignment tool, it beats the heck out of trying to eyeball the darned thing. Gearboxes always defeated me, yet they are a logical beast managed with care and logic. Well done for your mastering those challenges.
great news mate glad you got the gearbox in by yourself ,love watching your videos
Great job, love seeing it all go back together. Really looking forward to the test run
Wry nice work, James. That red bar is an impressive tool. Can’t imagine trying to support the engine and gearbox without it.
The vectra vids help bc vectras r the only car i drive
Lovely Jubbly, coming along very nicely now.
Another brilliant video as always and looking forward to watching you replace the clutch and then putting the gear box back in and hope you are staying safe and well
Cool to see you getting it all sorted, we are getting there slowly, well done mate respect 👍.

Excellent job. Great channel 👍😎
Good videos on the skoda matey nice to see all the tool collection as well you will soon be in a lock up in the dry n warm . When you put the gearbox back in a hard plastic or thick cardboard saves you scraping the floor etc
Another excellent video 🙌🙌🙌
Did the clutch on my 2001 b5 passat last week, wish the bolts holding the clutch in were the same, mine had 7mm allen key, gads.
Keep up the good work, great videos.
Well done 👍 I wouldn't have done it you done well

Is mechanic your full time job ? I'm thinking of joining a evening class to do my qualifications.

Love the Chanel. I watch a few similar and it’s definitely a favourite of mine. Love the flat cap too
Enjoying your videos!
You need to get hold of some sort of tent. I have the same problem this time of year. At least you have a nice shed and plenty space in the driveway. I’m trying to work out of some sort of garden umbrella thing to use.
Great video Good idea with chain.
Bro, love your videos. Can you also please show the video production kit and how you go about doing your video editing , thumbnail as it looks amazing. Love to see the whole process documented in a video. Keep doing great work mate.
Was gutted the vid ended I wanted to see it and hear it all fixed 😃
Really interested to know what you're doing with that guitar. 👀 I love guitars aswell as cars I recently refurbished an old one of mine it was black I sanded it all the way back to bare wood and cleared it then put all black hardware on it. Looks awesome now!!

Phil in stoke
You mechanical skills have come a long way over the videos, excellent job.
Does the engine support bar have enough threads to move the gearbox from the floor to the right position?
Hey james , i would like to know, where did you buy those repair parts? I can't even find the bronze ring that you replace.
Also realy impresive and great job !
Another good video 👍
Good job 👍👌
Great work 🖒👍👌
Clever lad 🤙
Top Upload Again Jimmy.
Baz.
Cheers marra.
Great video, but some reason the only thing I have stuck in my head is, what's with the red stratocaster body hanging up?
Hi james. Show us the big worklight you are using. Oh and the new ratchet if its any good. Thanks
Great clutch alignment tool, I haven't seen that type before and it is clearly the correct one for that type of clutch/gearbox.
If you have to work on a clutch/box which has a pilot bearing in the centre of the flywheel you need an alignment tool which aligns to the pilot bearing (or both bearing and pressure plate).
Half a millimetre out between the centre of the clutch plate and the centre of the pressure plate isn't going to make a lot of difference, the gearbox will still go in.
Half a millimetre out in the alignment between the clutch plate and the pilot bearing and you are screwed trying to fit the gearbox, it ain't happening.
excellent content
Yes! Looking forward to this, you’ve done a cracking job so far! 🙌 Legend...
You ok mate not seen no new film off you ????
Evening mate - love the videos , just a quick one - what brake cleaner you running or mixing ? Helps appreciated
I’ll show you in the next video :)
@@TheSavageGarage top man 🤜🤜nice work
I've found the brake cleaners I've used are pretty much the same, currently using Wurth brake cleaner in refillable dispenser, cans are great for the pressure but always end up running out when you really need it
Just seen the video , and order one !! Top man !! 🤜🤜
Doing good job and like watching you can I ask when you back on ford mondeo get it back on road and hope your family all well
Nice work are you building a Strat...great vid as always.
Hey buddy, really eager to see the Skoda driving. Did you get the bolts for the driveshaft? 👍
Bravo for having the balls to tackle jobs like this on your drive - no fuss just gets on with it! You are the UKs version of Chris Fix - without the stupid accent lol
You doing a video on the guitar build?
When the next video is coming?
Been waiting on this 😍😍 your vids always make me week!!!
nice cross bar where can I get one like that.
you dont locktite the pressure plate bolts?
How much would a EGR valve change cost for a skoda 1. 2 diesel?
Hi mate whats the make and model of the led torch?
did you think about making it turbocharged?
Hi SG. I noticed a red strat type body hanging up , do you play and repair guitars as well. John.
Good job james especially when you are doing it on the floor mate
Nice work man, can be a little bit dizzying to watch at times when your holding the camera but looking forward to seeing the next one ;)
Have u a link for alignment tool..thanks
Are you going to sell the Skoda when you have done the gear box done then
Well done that man, like your videos takes me back to when i used to work on my cars ,carnt do it now , 65 years old and a bad back ,, keep up with the vids, ,😁👍
Why didn't you put the gearbox oil in while it was on the bench?
👍👍
Would have been a good idea to write ✍ milage and date 📅 somewhere, for reference should anything fail.
👍😎👍MDS
Hey mate. Im a huge fan of the page. Iv currently only got a corsa d and im starting my own small channel as a bit of fun. Any ideas on increasing popularity as I don't get many views
