Mental Infrastructure

This video explains the concept of mental infrastructure. It compares physical infrastructure (road systems, sewer systems, power lines, etc) to digital infrastructure (internet, % of people with email) to mental infrastructure (our common understanding of how to interact with a system, what different symbols mean, etc). This is an important concept for entrepreneurs interested in introducing new technologies.

This strongly overlaps with the ideas of the computer science and interaction design pioneer Alan Kay, who argues that the computer (understood in the wide sense, which includes mobile devices) is the ultimate metamedium, capable of emulating all media that came before.
There are many interesting lectures by Alan Kay scattered over RUclips.

this overlaps with Douglas Hofstadter’s work. have you seen his talk Analogy as the Core of Cognition. he also has a book called Surfaces and Essences that delves deeper into this topic. Great video!
