The fact that this is literally one of my favorite songs and never once realized it was part of an actual story is crazy…. Now I’m even more in love with it
4 years late but still a good one, lupe has so much packed into his lyrics that it's hard to catch it all. Isn't the holy trinity the streets, the game, and the cool?
Holy crap I see why you call Lupe the Goat. Mind officially blown! The lyrical breakdown was ON POINT and much needed. Can’t wait for the next one! Came for NF stayed for you👌🏻
Lupe has no equal when it comes to putting pen to pad. He’s in a whole different league. Waaay beyond music. He’s one of the greatest writers.. PERIOD.
“And if the rain stops, and everything’s dry she would cry so so I could drink the tears from her eyes” I think I’ve seen that that is a Lauryn Hill line he is referencing but they way he puts it in the song for this story is crazy. Hip hop reference that is relevant shows his genius.
Kate Everly a lot of Christian biblical references because kids foolishly worship the street life. And yes gotta keep that intro as fresh as possible! Lol
I knew the name of Lupe Fiasco well but I knew nothing of his music, what better way to hear it through #thethirdernest breakdowns. Fuego 🔥 intro, less is more 😎
Bruh... Whenever I try to explain the Lupe lyrics to a non-listener I get so deep in it because he doesn't slack in any area. You can talk about the concept, or the literary devices, or the poetic nature of the writing, or the content, or the music. Most artists give you one or two categories. Lu marks all the boxes
This is exactly why I consider him the GOAT because he can grab high scores in ALL categories. He doesn't have the BEST flow like Andre 3000 or the BEST lyricism like MF DOOM, or even the BEST technics like (arguably) Nas or Eminem, but he does do EVERY aspect of rap at an extremely high level which is something VERY few rappers do.
Okay dude. I'm starting to see why you like this guy so much because I'm starting to become a fan of the bars myself. I'm even finding things like for 1, commissioning the tattoo on her chest. When I was a kid here in Chicago you used to see R.I.P tags on the walls. Before the city of Chicago started cracking down on graffiti. And then secondly, that laugh in the bar about getting a KEY from the and laughing in his girl's face because she hasn't given him anything lately. It the identical laugh from The Notorious BIG's "What's Beef? Where I think the second line in that song is "I put my key you put your key in, money we'll be seeing, will reach the fucking ceiling".... Which shows me that Lupe is a study of the rap game if he's biting BIG from 97... Dope AF... I caught some other stuff but this comment is long enough already. LOL
All these years I never noticed the laugh similarity. And I’ve heard that biggie song so many times lol. Great catch bro. Also. If you look at the picture of the streets, she’s got a heart pendant with a key hole and he’s got the solid gold key.
Always love your breakdowns and how you actually go into the lyrics and the meanings. It is awesome to have a breakdown channel that gets into the meat rather than just a 'reaction' with obvious statements and repetitive themes.
I'm blown away that this series has so few views compared to other videos on your channel. This is my second or third time watching it, and you do such a great job of breaking a very complex idea into bite-sized (eyyy Gotta Eat is up next!) bits that are easier to swallow. Obviously there's too much to the MYH saga for you to cover absolutely everything, but this series is what made me a fan of yours more than anything you did on NF or whatever was popular at the time. And you turned me into a Lupe fan, which is why I'm back again after listening through his entire discography a few dozen times over the past year!
Great breakdown, as always! I found it very interesting to hear Lupe say the top 3 rappers he studies for lyrics are Homeboy Sandman, Aesop Rock, and MF DOOM. I love those dudes! Instantly made me even more intrigued by this train ride.
Me and my husband love your channel. The fact that you know the lyrics to this song and it’s not just a jump on the Lupe train is🔥. He is definitely top 3 lyricist of all time!!
one of my top 5 lupe i swear u made me love lupe 10x more as of today... i always loved his music but never knew the dude was this deep.. he truly is underrated and overlooked and hip hop needs the dude... he's the da vinci of rap
Bro your Lupe content is what I’ve been looking for. I know most of what you bring up, you have definitely shown deeper meaning in some lines and made the Michael young story more cohesive. I’m curious you say Lupe is top 5. Who are you putting up there because I struggle to have anyone truly up there with him. The level of complexity, detail, story telling, consistency, and concepts, is in my opinion, truly unmatched. But I am curious on your take! Also subbed!
Thanks for the breakdown! Never came to realize all this awesome story stuff, probably because I started listening to this as a teen (+non native) and lol that hurricane line is genius 'Keep me high' also high as in on drugs as it's the streetlife I guess
Lupe was one of the first rappers I looked up songs on RUclips for. Little did I know when I was in my early teens that he would probably be one of the most complex lyricists ever. I gotta re-listen to these albums again.
Smooth E !!! all i can do iz laugh 😄😄😂😅😂 i told y'all this kid iz gifted ... and he mastered his craft early-on in his career ... so much for being a skateboard nerd, huh ?! 😉 definitely, one of the GOAT's tranquility ✌ wl
Unbelievable how 5 minutes of lyrics can have so much content to discuss for hours! This song is on my playlist now thanks to your breakdown! Now off i go to your latest NF reaction because I've not been following lately 😅
This is my third time watching the MYH saga breakdown and that pool hustlers line reminded me of the episode of Fresh Prince where Will gets hustled at the pool hall! Coincidence? I think not 😏
I’ve been a Lupe fan since The Revenge of the Nerds and Fahrenheit 115 mixtapes! Love Lupe! I hope you do Hip Hop saved my life and of course Mural! But take your time, it’s no rush!
This Breakdown Is So Cold. He Used The 3 Way Metaphor Of Explaining The Lust Of The Street Life, The Lust Of Worldly Pleasures, And The Lust Of Women. 1 John 2:15-17
hey man, love your stuff but I have been requesting you to react to Oswin Benjamin - personal, I really think you will dig it. Also, he has a freestyle on sway that is amazing. Very passionate.
I didnt interpret the beach part as a bitch, I took it as something totally different, that he loves a woman to the point of toxicity....interesting EDIT- Now that Im watching this vid all the way thru....Jesus this song can be looked at so many angles.
Match made in heaven lighting the fires in hell, also means Adam and Eve because of their actions humanity were sent down from heaven and so their children are no longer raised in the heavens.
Lupe fiasco train only shows who here really is for ernest and not for NF
Truth
Plus Lupe is fire.
I been here longer than NF, but I am not a Lupe fan. He's a good lyricist, but I don't enjoy listening to his tracks.
I came for NF, I stayed for Ernest. Peace, bro ✌
@@MortiferGnome im not into lupes music , yet i watch the videos cause he has a great story ngl
The fact that this is literally one of my favorite songs and never once realized it was part of an actual story is crazy…. Now I’m even more in love with it

Tuan Tran you ain’t never lie. I’m STILL trying to take mural all in lol

Absolutely love the Lupe Fiasco break downs!

Lupe has no equal when it comes to putting pen to pad. He’s in a whole different league. Waaay beyond music. He’s one of the greatest writers.. PERIOD.
I've been listening to this album for years and never picked up on this storyline, I feel dumb and enlightened at the same time
Lupe Living Legend!!
“And if the rain stops, and everything’s dry she would cry so so I could drink the tears from her eyes” I think I’ve seen that that is a Lauryn Hill line he is referencing but they way he puts it in the song for this story is crazy. Hip hop reference that is relevant shows his genius.
My favorite line
I love watching videos of Lupe lyrics breakdown
Alistair Kaname so many ways to interpret and so much depth to get to!
I love how lupe seems to stumble over the beat. Just how you stumble thru the streets
The way he uses a lot of Christian references and metaphors is super interesting to me. Also each new intro of yours is literally making me lol 😂
Kate Everly a lot of Christian biblical references because kids foolishly worship the street life. And yes gotta keep that intro as fresh as possible! Lol
