    Oh my god i am so glad i found your channel! Im a 25 year old girl from Australia. I recently began a job in gardening which requires me to use garden equipment like mowers, hedgers and whipper snippers. I didnt grow up with the basic skills to fix things or build things, but its what i dream of doing. Thankyou for making your videos so accessible to anyone and easy to understand. I often feel like im asking stupid questions. You're the 'fix it' dad we all need 😅 i will be referring to your videos in the future so keep the gardening videos coming 😁

    Nice video
    I have a tip... Most small engines have an in line fuel cut off valve, get into the routine of turning OFF that valve when your finished using the engine and allow the engine to stop running. This will use up 95% of the fuel left in the bowl. Think of this as the new way to shut down your engine.
    What causes this is the alcohol in gasoline, it will absorb moisture and the result is what you see in this video.
    No gas in the carburetor = no corrosion
    Love the girls by the way

    The easy way to put Honda carburetors back together is by sliding all the parts onto the bolts; filter box first, then tighten the bolts into the engine. Way easier than lining up 10 things at once.

    Guessing this is what is wrong with mine. Have no idea how this stuff works. Been sliding a little twig under the choke thing to prevent it from sliding back and turning off. It works but now seems like it has less power and need to fix the problem like you have shown here. Thank you. Wish me luck!

    Dude! I needed you a month ago. I know nothing about engines. Between RUclips and the guys at work I tried several things, but no soap. I lucked out (eventually.... this went on for a couple weeks) and a friend stopped by and said he'd take it and fix it and did. I think he did pretty much what you are doing. I watch you often. If I'd seen this from you I'd have done it myself. But.... I WILL know the next time. Thanks!

      So much on a mower is in the carburetor, and the original manufacture part is only $30. It really helps to have a second set of hands to get it all back together. thx! Eric.

    Makes sense.
    Mine had the opposite issue.. it was air starved, due to a dirty filter ..
    Issue was I tipped the mower and the finger was cover in oil.. blocking pores and collecting more dirt.
    Gave it a nice soapy wash, and was perfect when dried.
    I should probably check my carburetor though... Not taken it off.. ever.

    • @gardenfork
      @gardenfork  3 года назад

    YIKES that carb was NASTY!
    At the end of the season remove as much fuel as possible then run the mower until it stops also use a fuel stabilizer for long term storage 10+ years with no carb issues for my push mower

      Yeah i was surprised at this one, lots of water in that bowl. Lesson learned... eric.

  • @8307c4
    @8307c4 Год назад

    On a note of simplicity, after the fuel petcock is shut off start and run it until it dies... Then remove the fuel line from the petcock end, let any fuel drip out... Then spray it full of carb cleaner, let the bowl fill too... Reconnect and try to run it again.

  • @mickjager5974
    @mickjager5974 2 года назад

    Mine was doing this so I left it in choke and blipped the throttle down at the carb and sprayed in some carb cleaner until it finally got to where it would run when I moved it just to run. Don't know if it was watery gas or what, but was able to mow my yard after that and was able to shut off, restart and it would run.

    Hey Eric. I would love to see more details on how you have your hoist set up. I think this would be great for getting heavy kegs in and out of my keezer.

    • @gardenfork
      @gardenfork  3 года назад +1

      the hoist has brackets on top, room enough to slide in a pipe, and the pipe sits on top of the ceiling joists in my garage, right near the column for strength. i don't lift stuff that is too heavy with it.

    Try Star Tron engine fuel treatment. It's much cheaper than Sea Foam, and does a much better job especially with ethanol. Also, add Marvel Mystery Oil to your gas and to your oil, it will keep your engine clean and properly lubricated. Haven't had small engine problems in a very long time. I've also been using MMO in my car's oil for years and pulled the valve cover recently and it was much more clean than an engine with 230,000 miles should have been. Thanks for the vid, cheers!

    Man oh man. Not sure what to say. Good effort I guess. You got it going, that's what counts, right ? Your mower was filthy as heck. You should at least air pressure clean it before working on it. You had the air filter case off and you didn't clean it. You reinstalled it full of grass clippings. Sheeesh.

    I just bought a brand new carb and when i turn it over it starts and runs but it wont run with the choke off. Im wondering maybe installed the fuel filter in wrong and its not getting enough fuell or something . It shouldn’t be the carb since I bought a new one and it’s doing the same thing

    I have some questions, please help me :( :
    1. For a carbon steel pan, can I use soybean oil for seasoning?
    2. I've never seasoned a pan before, people told me that I should put the pan in the oven, heat it before putting oil on it to avoid some ugly dots on the pan? Is that correct?
    3. In my place we tend to wash the pan using soap, until there is no oil stuck on the pan because we're afraid that the oil can be rancid when it's left outside, I just wonder if we just leave the oil like that, on the pan after seasoning, will the oil be rancid?
    4. Can I wash the pan using soap right after seasoning? (I mean after I cook, wash it and put it on the shelf for later use)
    5. When I season, should I only take a rag, dip it in my soybean oil, place it all over the pan and heat it, instead of putting a large cup of oil?
    Thank you.

    You can find carberator diagrams online for the honda GVC160 and GVC190 for the correct orientation for the gaskets and spacers.
    When working on these engines you can remove the throttle plate which will make I A LOT easier to sandwich it all back together.

    I have to replace that carb every year. I picked up a junked craftsman off the curb with Brigs engine and a simple plastic carb. With a fix for the kill switch have been running it for 2 summers now flawlessly. In my experience these Honda 160 mowers are overrated junk just like the Honda cars are overrated. They're great until they break just like everything else. Its all hype. The Briggs engines are better and Fords and Chevys are better too.
