I never quite understood this part of the story of StarCraft. Today Kerrigan gets send down to New Gettysburg and learn of the betrayal of Arcturus Mengsk.
Arcturus Mengsk isa terran from Korhal. He leads the Sons of Korhal and orchestrates the downfall of the Terran Confederacy during the Great War.

In Wings of Liberty they remade this betrayal scene into an awesome cutscene. It was the same script, word by word. Thats when WoL gave me chills.
Has Lowko never played SC2 campaign? LOL. I guess not if he never played SC1.
Lowko, it has to be said: You're a noob. LOL :P
He did play all the SC2 campaigns once. The LotV playthrough is on his channel. But I think you cannot remember every cutscene when you just saw them once in 5 years.
so glad I'm not the only person that remembers him playing through WoL and HotS....
@TheGuruStud I recognized the dialog when playing through WoL because I had beaten the first game maybe half a dozen times. I have only played through WoL once though. I don't think I would recognize the dialog if I was playing the original for the first time, having beaten WoL seven years ago.
The thumbnail of the RUclips video is from that very same cutscene, so...
After getting all the campaign achievements in Starcraft 2 I decided to give this game a shot. Right now I am halfway through Brood War and I have to say that getting a large army of dragoons and reavers to walk up a ramp is more difficult than any Starcraft 2 mission on brutal difficulty.
10/10 would babysit braindead ai again :)
Try some shuttles for the reavers.
shuttles are your friend. lots and lots of shuttles. 20 dragoons, 4 reavers , and 12 shuttles makes for a speedy ball of death.
I have bronze league micro tho :(
just dont fly into cannons, turrets, or spore colonies lol. dont need to micro. just fly in drop them off and let them blast your enemies. easy.
Oh god, guiding dragoons up the steps in the dungeon-crawl style missions actually made me want to shoot myself. They're actually incapable of going up by themselves, even if you order a single one to path up. You have to path them up in a very specific mouse click order. Ugh.
i like how the color of your troops changes when you split from the sons of korhal from red to blue
I love how each faction in SC1 has their own color
Blue = Mar Sara / Raynor
Red= Sons of Korhal / Mengsk
Purple = Antigans
Orange = Omega Squadron
Brown = Delta Squadron
Grey = Alpha Squadron / Duke
Blue = Surtur Brood
Red = Tiamat Brood / Daggoth
Purple = Jormungand Brood / Player
Orange = Garm Brood / Zasz
Brown = Grendel Brood
Grey = Baelrog Brood
Blue = Sargas Tribe / Fenix
Red = Ara Tribe / Aldaris
Purple = Furinax Tribe
Orange = Auriga Tribe
Teal = Akilae Tribe / Tassadar
Yellow = Velari Tribe / Player
24:34 Remember when they got this recording in SC2 from the old adjutant?
This was the most important scene I've waited for
Bogdan Gabriel yeah I rembered that aswell
Bogdan Gabriel that was really neat
I was like "holy sh*, so he really said that in the first SC!!"
Blizzard is awesome when it comes to cinematics and storytelling, gotta say that.
You know, If I had to guess its the same damn adjudant in SC2 torn from the hyperion to get mengsk's tech (tracing beacons and shit) out when they escaped in "the hammer falls"
23:58
Raynor: "I'm gone, and you'd better come with me"
What if you are actually Matt Horner in this mission briefing
*insert mind blown meme here*
I think so it makes sense
One could speculate, and they might as well make it such as they've never used the Magistrate again after this campaign, may as well just come out and say ''it's Horner''.
it makes total sense when Jim talks to Tychus after the Zero Hour mission in WoL
Jim: "The Hyperion used to be Mengsk's flagship back in the day. Me and Matt decided to 'borrow' her when we parted with him."
It makes zero sense when in the very bar that triggers the Zero Hour mission, the conversation about Raynor's old badge references the former Confederate Magistrate counting on Raynor's reputation when he hired him to become Marshall. Meanwhile, Matt Horner is obviously below Raynor in rank, and is portrayed to look younger than any of WoL's major characters to have held a political position in Mar Sara. Near the end of WoL when the crew has doubts about Raynor siding with Valerian, he snaps at Horner because Horner "signed up" with the Raiders to follow his orders. The Commander never signed up with the Raiders, he found Raynor first. Raynor also only gains the Hyperion after escaping Tarsonis' ion cannon in the Ep. 1 finale with the Commander, not during that mission itself. Lotta player characters already got retconned. The Magistrate/Commander doesn't have to be one of them.
@@ThePeteriarchy yeah, as cool as it would be to think Matt Horner is the Magistrate, only the SC1 Executor has been explicitly retconned to have been a later character. Even in the novels the Magistrate and the Cerebrate are their own characters.
But even if he isn't the Magistrate, Matt Horner has a better backstory; his previous life as CHARLIE VANE.
Notice the color coding of your units. You were blue back on Mar Sara, then red when you joined Sons of Korhal, and back again to blue in the last mission, when you desert. Terran Dominion gets it's red uniform from Sons of Korhal ,and Raynor's Raiders blue have roots in original militia from Mar Sara and their magistrate.
I always wondered what Blizzard could've done with "commander" characters in SC2,like 2k did in XCOM2,but all "tactical prowess" were transfered to hero units, like Raynor and Artanis.
I kind of thought that Matt Horner was the Magistrate from the terran campaign in the original starcraft, but I think they said this was not the case. Not sure why, it would have made some sense given their relationship together.
JasonX Nah, Horner's just a Battlecruiser captain. He joins the Raiders when they split from the Sons of Korhal (I.e now). The magistrate you play as in SC1 is dead by SC2 according to Word of Blizzard.
JasonX only protoss Executor from ep.3 is confirmed to be Artanis. Others are just no-name commanders, but ep.4 Executor could be Selendis, but it's not confirmed
Dead? Nah: "As far as the magistrate goes... You know, at the end of the day, guys, in the original game the magistrate was really a [inaudible] to help tell the story, right? It was never intended to be a really fleshed out character...The magistrate did feel like a fictional part of the universe, but with this game (SC2) we wanted to bring the characters a little more forward and not have that half-step in between the player and Raynor for instance. So we've kind of done away with it, but that does pose an interesting question: is that character still out there in the lore somewhere? Perhaps."
There *are* other characters who are just flat out dead, but we haven't gotten to them yet.
Anyway, going by the books, the magistrate ultimately put his mad colony evacuation skills (the only thing Raynor can't steal credit for) to use by helping out the fringe colonies that keep getting whacked by the short end of the stick, which seems fitting for a character who has no real reason to continue fighting, but is driven to help people.
My favorite part of SC1 was I got to slip into the 'commander' character in ever single campaign and make it me they were all talking to and about and it felt so much more personal than the SC2 route where I have to play as a puppeteer and watch other characters interact with each other.
Lowko: i dunno if there are dark templar here
Me: *laughs in sc lore*
curious here.... why so?
the DT didn´t chase the Zerg? (I believe it was a thing only to the 'regular' protoss)
yeah they were kinda hating on each other at the time, i dont really want to go into detail, since it would be spoilery
Vince Kiss oh, ok... Got it ;)
DTs weren't even a regular unit until Brood War. They show up as a special unit in some missions later in the game, but there is no way for you to make more of them like a normal unit.
In the expansion, you do though
Lowko: “Please no spoilers”
Lowko too: “Let’s name the video The Betrayal put that in the thumbnail"
The spider mines are not "official" detectors but they sense vibrations in ground to locate targets. So they are able to kill a dark templar walking near by but not an archon, workers or any other floating or flying unit. Hoped to be helpfull
Dammit! I forgot fun fact!
This battle occurs on the city ground, not in space. As was told by developers, they had no good tileset for the New Gettysburg's urbanistic environment and so they had to use tileset mostly used for orbital platforms
Ah, the infamous final mission of First Episode. I remember how rage-inducing these Ghosts were. Freezing half of your aircrafts moving towards the Ion Cannon. And the first Nuke bombardment performed by enemies. The panic, man, the nerves. Well, this rage actually forced me to learn the power of Science Vessels and their EMP. ...Sweet childhood memories :)
P.S. And by the way, Lowko, please, pay attention to colors of enemies. It's a little piece of lore too!
You and me both friend. I still have nightmares of the first time i was nuked lmao. I never expected that to happen back then as a kid and i was demolished for not having any detection. Then i discovered the S.V. and never looked back lol.
Lowko: "Do you thing there could be some hidden in that area?"
Siege tank: "Absolutly"
perfect sinhronisation (19:00) :)
"I thought the sons of korhal were the good guys now" - THAT is the essence of the story of SC1. It goes straight into my quotes file ☺
23:00, wow, lowko also leaves kerrigan there.
ibm5155 😂
You are right! Effin traitor! X)
Man, I remember being so fucked up when I saw the betrayal as a kid. What a great game.
I remember setting up a bunch of bunkers and turrets because I was sure they were going to attack. Stopped the attack but it still surprised the heck out of me.
When i redid this level, i built 12 bunkers with marines and siege tanks by the zerg ramps to hold off that last zerg push. It worked but I still lost that level. Even after the cheat input to cancel all winning conditions. Found out The zerg spawns free zergling units in their base every second or so to attack. I was trying to change the fate, i was soo disappointed nothing changed.
when i played it few years ago i always place the bunkers first but not with siege tanks coz i was all the time ending with failure coz they wore destroying the structures from zerg and i was losing the game.
yeah I did something similar, It doesnt matters what happens, zerg just keep popping out of their base and charging at you. so it kinda seems they are endless soo....eventually you would lose anyway X)
Ghosts + Lockdown = A lot of dead Mech units.
There are 1 or 2 missions in SC1/BW that you can cheese with flying wraiths around the edges of the map, but this is definitely not the mission to try it.
yeah, this is more macro oriented genre. :)
You mean game?
I get why the Terrans are fighting with one another, I even understand having to battle with the Zerg. But the Protoss are literally incinerating entire planets. Seems like the Terrans might think twice before picking a fight with them.
IIRC, the Protoss are the 2nd creation of the Xel'naga. Since they are the ones that were made after, they believe that they are the "perfect" ones and therefore have to destroy the Zerg to "cleanse" the world (hence why they are literally incinerating planets). The Protoss just see the Terrans as a threat to their mission so that's why those 2 races have conflict.
It's like you say, they burn entire planets. If all the planets are gone there won't be much terran left.
The protoss were the first creation actually, they are just incinerating whole planets because the leaders of the protoss know what a threat the zerg are, and are just leaving no chances for the zeg to survive on those planets. Also they don't care about the terrans and view them as inferior... well the leaders view them like that. Something will happen later of course, during their episode XD
+Turbozpeed99 That's a SC2 thing. At this point the Protoss knew very little about the Zerg or its origins and the ones they encountered in space were more like a curiosity instead of this lethal threat to their survival. Protoss kill Zerg so they don't reach the Terrans but since they consider both as lesser species they just burn entire planets to get rid of the Zerg. The only one who wasn't a fan of killing everyone and thought that the Terrans had to be protected was Tassadar, which is why you see him buddying up with Raynor later
we have to remember that tassadar is a xel'naga
Was it only me who waited for mainly this episode?
nope xD
Nope same here haha. Loved the cut scene in sc2
the whole sc2hots plotline was getting revenge on mengsk for the betrayal, what do you mean lowko
Saddest moment of the original StarCraft. I think it was 1999 when I first saw that. I didn't have Brood War until about 2004.
If you are a reader, Liberty's Crusade is a pretty good picture of the Terran Campaign in SC1. It's a good read.
Rest in Crissalis Kerrigan
we still will love you
Based on Lowko's reaktion he never played VoL campaing
He has but back when it released almost 7 yrs ago. He mainly played Online rather than campaign so he must have forgotten.
12 battlecruisers is the mandatory way to go for this mission ;)
not at all, they would get lockdowned, and smashed
They won't, i did that and won easily, you can yamato the turrets and the cannon from a safe distance.
Yeah i played that mission several times when i was a kid and it always worked even tho i couldnt even micro :P
Yamato cannon the crap out of that Ion cannon
Lowko, the first mission in this video is the first mission where you can build Battecruisers, so they expect you use them. The best way to complete these missions is how I did when I was a kid: a decent amount of static defense, plenty of Battlecruisers and a few Science Vessels! xD
StarCraft 1's story is very gud cuz at the end bad characters win. I mean COME ON its not true that always good characters win. " war does not determine who is right - only who is left"
Lowko was so shocked at the betrayal his face disappeared :D
I seriously love this playthrough. The starcraft story is so good, Im glad I get to re-experience it now that Im older and can appreciate it even more. And played by one of my favorite yters!
24:33 The adjutant here is the adjutant that you need to retrieve from the dominion train in one of the mission in WoL
Holy fuck that music gives me sooo much memories
I like how hes probably already played the WoL campaign and acting like he just found out kerrigan got betrayed
Hi Lowko, good job defeating the Protoss. Bad job on trying to cheese the last objective.
Here is my recipe for a fun strat you can use to clear the entire map on missions 10:
You will need:
- 12 Wraiths
- 1 Ghost
- 3-5 Nukes
How-to:
1. Attack the red base first. Use a cloaked ghost to take down their radar.
2. Afterwards fly in with your wraith squad to finish off their CC and any unit producing structures.
3. Throw in some ground forces to finish off the stragglers.
4. Attack the white base by repeating steps 1 -3.
5. Ez time with Ion Cannon.
Works like a charm eveytime, but execution needs some micro.
Best part is you never give the enemy a chance to lockdown your forces.
TIP: Place a bunker at every entrance. When you get attacked and the enemy sees your SCV repairing the bunker, they will always send a Science Vessel to Irradiate it. That is when you pick em off with wraith squad.
That perfect timing 19:01
LowkoTV: I think it could be in that area.
Siege tank: Absolutely.
:)
Siege tank guys are so encouraging.
My favorite is when you build a marine and then move a siege tank.
"You want a piece of me boy?"
"Absolutely"
So Lowko did not know that kerrigan got betrayed by mengsk...
If you have not played Starcraft or Starcraft 2 don't read! Huge spoilers!
I wonder how will he react when she becomes a Zerg, when Tassadar dies, when Aiur falls, when Stukov is killed, when the overmind is destroyed or when samir duran betrays him...
Angel Egel Lol his mind will blow up XD
Weeeeell he knows now from the comment
Lowko, first off, I love all of your Starcraft videos for 1 and 2. you are my go-to RUclipsr when I get that Starcraft itch. You are informative, professional, caring, and just overall fun to watch. One minor thing I ask you might consider, is when you do series like this, could you maybe number each episode? it just makes it easier to follow where the next episode is, unless of course you have a reason for not doing so. Anyway keep doing what you are doing, you are my Starcraft guy.
Well, I'm somewhat of an idiot i suppose the playlist is effective in itself, disregard my last comment on that, but still my favorite Starcraft RUclipsr.
Crash Bandicoot WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH at 22:33.
> Played through SC2 extensively
> Can't put two and two together from everything reviewed in WoL that this is where Kerrigan is left for dead
Lowko, the last person alive to know about this betrayal.
Being this big in the SC2 universe but not know this is like a Lord of the Rings enthusiast not knowing who Gandalf is.
19:00
Lowko "Do think it could be in that area?
SiegeTank "Absolutely"
Yo Lowko, I remember when I was a kid okaying this mission, I always rushed/massed battle cruisers and dropships. When Kerrigan asks for evac I always picked up all my troops and flew them away from the base to the other side of the map.
You have probably already recorded the next episode Lowko, but you can get 2-3 groups of Wraiths. 1 group goes on suicide mission to kill Ion Cannon. Other 2 stay behind to hunt down incoming Science Vessels. You can also try to first drop some of marines to keep other units near Cannon buys.
Oh, you never played the Starcraft 1 before? Nice. I prolly had the same reaction to that betrayal X)
I love how they do not warn you about the incoming zerg wave like they would do in SC2, all of the sudden you just see hundreds of zerg units swarming your base and you are like lowko "Woh woah woah woah!" And THEN you get the transmition. Storytelling 1.1, show, dont tell.
So good.
Ok so as it turns out Lowko, this mission IS actually possible with mass wraiths, but you cant ignore the units guarsing the cannon. I believe you need about 24 wraiths, and just pop up to the corner and carefully pick off missile turrets, then pick off the guarding units. If that doesn't work, add more wraiths as needed.
Yes! New one! Lowko addiction to manageable level...
Edit; I'm actually playing right after watching the clip and have done since you started the campaign.
Sort of inspirational and it makes for a good cliffhanger. :)
Kerrigan was one of the Ghosts who assasinate Mengsk's familiy, Angus Mengsk, his father, was assasinated by Sarah when she was part of the Confederacy trying to quell the rebellion of Korhal IV.
the day that Korhal was bombarded with nuclear weapons, the Sons of Korhal faction was born.
I think that was why Mengsk left Sarah in New Gettysberg.
@LOWKO, kind suggestion: you could turn the game timer on from options! That way we could see the elapsed time when you're playing through missions. This would be particularly useful for viewers since you cut some parts and the game clock would show the length of the cut parts.
BTW, as for the strategy for this mission; the enemy (RED is Mengsk's Sons of Korhal, WHITE is Duke's
Alpha Squadron, since you wondered at 28:16) REBUILDS science vessels so after destroying the ones currently on the map your wraiths would only have a moment before new SVs come.
Notice, that with the money you use for 12 wraiths you could buy 12 dropships, which fully loaded would carry 96 marines (you did notice the abundance of minerals), which would be more than enough to destroy the target - just watch out those super-annoying lockdowns when moving dropships or any other mechanicals around.
Of course the coolest way to do this mission is to go with a group of battlecruisers. It just takes time and easily requires expansion for gas and you also need to prepare for many of them get lockdown'ed by Alpha Squadron ghosts.
P.S. 22:34 - the moment & facial expression I looked forward to see. :)
Those blue protoss building explosions look spectacular man. Better than original.
"I will rule this sector or see it burnt to ashes" is the quote that the adjutant recorded and that you use in Wings of Liberty to reveal Mengsk true face to the Terran Dominion :)
28:16
blue - raynor
red - mengsk
white - duke (alpha)
orange - confederate (delta)
purple - antiga colony (appear in earlier missions)
Part of it was Mengsk's personal vendetta against Kerrigan for being the main ghost who killed his father and his family during the Confederacy years. But by this point, he was pretty much working on a power fantasy, like a certain man said: 'I was just using my grief as an excuse to do whatever I wanted.'
The very first time I played through this mission, the ending of it is what solidified my hook to it. Kerrigan's desperation, Jim's horror, Mengsk leaving her to die, you watching as the Zerg flooded your base in waves, quite a twist.
When they mentioned ion cannon c&c instantly popped in my head.
i actually bunkered down so much that that zerg forces at the end didnt destroy any of my structures (i kept repairing my bunkers)
" I will not be stopped. Not by you, or the Confederates, or the Protoss, or anyone! I will rule this sector or see it burnt to ashes around me!" Chills. Every time. One of the best delivered lines in gaming history.
Yep, Mengsk is a sociopath that craved power.
Parts of this was mentioned in Wings of Liberty, now I have more info on the game, thanks Lowko ;)
9:50 "mining efficiently" Well said, Lowko, well said.
Build 12 battlecruisers. This is a Ye Olde Attack-Move deathball army.
So for clarification on the objectives:
Killing Zerg units is fine. Killing the BUILDINGS will instantly fail the mission. You’re allowed to kill the queen.
The full wraith composition is viable just terribly slow. You have to clear the red camp in the northwest then destroy a bunch of towers around the canon. 2 hours max, with constant nukes on your base. Ohhh the good old times. (After a decade I found this map surprisingly easy to solve and managed to eradicate the whole enemy army just for the KEK.)
Lowko: That's a long travel distance for gas.
Me: Build another CC!
Forgot in which one but story says Kerrigan killed Megnsk father on a mission then got her memory whipped. When Megnsk took over he decided to keep her as a reminder.
Hey Lowko, have you heard of the Patrol+Move micro combo? It basically lets your vultures attack while moving. It's great for taking down zealots.
Also remember to get your sat-com station for scanner sweeps
You can turtle with a couple bunkers and like 4 sieged tanks (just watch out for ghosts + nukes!) and then try to just build up a Battlecruiser squad. That can be a little annoying because of the mass Ghost lockdown you'll run into though. You'll still have to push slowly with them. Alternatively you can get aggressive with a ground force and take the area in the center of the map which has a ton of resources and is only lightly defended (but will then be attacked from all sides). This one is definitely one of the more challenging missions in SC1, but still quite doable. Good luck!
The first StarCraft and Brood War’s storylines are showing the realities of war, which is why the plot in every campaign episode is so rich and complex. StarCraft II on the other hand is more of a resolution and closure from the previous installment which longtime fans desire.
Why are you acting surprised xD youve already seen the cinematic in WoL and prob knew she was left there? Is it just to sympathize with viewers who havent seen this yet?
remedy grrr playing WoL really is a massive spoiler. Even as the game is installing it plays a "previously on SC"
remedy grrr probs cuz he wasn't expecting this to be the mission where the betrayal happens
Epsilon acturus is shady af in this one and karregan is alone on new gettysburg where the cutscene takes place in sc2, I think he knew but just wanted to sympathize with his viewers and I totally get that
well he either A forgot or he was trying to be with the people who haven't seen it, so if it is fake he wasn't like WOW I CANT BELEIVE THAT HAPPENED WOOOEEE, he didn't over do it to be fair haha
judging by the thumbnail, i think he knew :) Maybe not as clearly at the moment of recording, hence the reaction, but he definitely refreshed his memory during editing .
Dude, the betrayal was shown in starcraft 2, there is a cinematic about it, hell, Donny Vermillion even mentions his brother was from Tarsonis when this Mengks recordings go out to the public.
I was shocked at this betrayal the 1st time I won this mission too, plus I needed all 200 units to plow through the Protoss while leaving only a few bunkers behind to intercept intermittent Zerg invasions. Very impressed how you only needed only about 12-20 tanks & 12-20 or so Goliaths to win the 1st mission.
2nd mission definitely requires a plan to take down the Science Vessels, turrets & some diversion tactic so the enemy command centers don't expose your cloaked Wraiths.
Every once in a while you get nostalgic for an old game, and you wish you could play it again and experience it like it was the first time playing. Watcing Lowko play this campaign is as close as it gets, and his genuine reaction to Mengsk betraying Kerrigan was awesome. I'll keep watching to experience the other plottwists through Lowko :-)
A little late since the Terran campaign is over, but for expansion purposes, if you can keep your troops from destroying the opponent's ad-ons, you can build or land buildings on them and take control of them, complete with energy if they have it (like the comsat station).
If you get around 3 - 4 teams of Air units you can pretty much snipe every building. For example Wraiths, Mutas and Scouts, this is possible every time your mainobjective is to destroy one thing.
dude that plot twist was actually revealed in WoL, i already knew it before playing remastered, and this is also my first playthrough of sc1
Jim Raynor Finds the Adjudant(not spelled right) that transmits their transmission and uses the part where he says he will rule the sector or see it burn around him against mengsk on Korhal during Wings of Liberty. You are welcome ^^
In SC and Brood war I've always felt like mass anything would work. Mass goliath, mass marine, mass zerglings, mass wraiths, mass scouts....
red's base is NW of your spawn. you take it using marine/vulture/tank with relative ease, then use a few BCs to escort your troops across the gap.
white makes a lot of high tech units, particularly ghosts, and is extremely difficult to attack into. you could kill them with marine/tank eventually, but you don't need to since their base is so far out of the way.
a-moving marines into white kills them pretty fast tbh, especially if ~2 BCs come along to yamato the defending tanks at the front. They've only got 3 tanks defending (third is far enough back it's hard to yamato) but you'll kill them quickly with just stimmed marines.
@Lowko How can you be so surprised by the plot twist? I think there is even a cut-scene showing this in SC2.This is the main plot on what is going on with Raynor, Kerrigan and Mensk.
and this is how the queen of blades is born...... btw the briefing at the end is part of WoL where you try to distribute the recording to the media with Tychus using the Thor. This was the grudge Kerrigan held against Mengsk until she killed him.
Sad how Kerrigan gets betrayed hardcore, but I guess that's what makes alot of the whole starcraft story franchise so interesting.
Okay so...
Zerg Infestation: Check
Protoss Quarantine Fleet: Check
The Protoss mercilessly kill any Terrans planning to escape to prevent the the swarm from spreading like they normally do.
Little sad that Jimmy and Sara didn't bring this up
The slight plot hole here for me is (and has been my question for more than 10 years) why Kerrigan didn't see this coming? She was a ghost, she read Raynor's and everybody's mind and foresaw the Protoss' plans.
22:25 10/10 for that surprise attack.
Oh yeah, I forgot the part where she actually said "I don't need to be rescued".
How the Queen of Blades came to be. The SC2 cinematic for this is great stuff.
My strategy in winning the final Terran mission: Nuke their bases until they are very weak. Come in with a bunch of BC's kill their base and then proceed to the ion cannon. Takes time, but is fun.
I'm by no means a great StarCraft player, but it's fucking hard to watch someone use siege tanks and not bring an SCV.
When is the next Darkest Dungeons episode? I know the SC1 hype is real but I still wait for darkest dungeon videos since you often upload them regularly last month. Keep up the good work! The starcraft 1 lore is really amazing. :D
For the lore, Kerrigan was the Ghost who murdered Mengsk's father through decapitation (and led the squad that murdered the rest of his family). His head was never recovered...and considering Sarah's memory was likely wiped, no one could locate it likely.
MugenYomi How do you know this?
Its from the instructional manual originally. It was why he formed the Sons of Korhal in the first place. Well that combined with Confederacy nuking Korhal is what started it. When we get to Brood War, Korhal is shown as being a desert planet due to the nukes...how it was cleaned of residual radiation in the short time between its nuking and BW I have no clue.
The IM was very interesting, since it had a ton of lore in it (20 pages split between the races [focused on Terrans and Protoss though]).
I have no clue if the manual is included on the Remastered Disc, but you can still buy new copies of SC1 in the StarCraft Battle Chest. The Manual is included on the game disc.
Kerrigan being one of the Ghosts in question, I believe was really only expanded on in a later novel released. The manual only mentions the assassination being done by Ghosts, the decapitation, and in Sarah's bio it mentions she was used for the Zerg control experiments. The novel goes over Arturus killing the other Ghosts involved and recruiting Sarah with his plans to kill her later (she had just been experimented on and thus was easy to manipulate; the Psi Screening devices prevent mind reading)
Lowko haven't you played the Wings of Liberty Campaign? There's a flashback video with the events of Mengsk's betrayal of Kerrigan on New Gettysberg..the video even has the exact same lines said by kerrigan, mengsk and Raynor at the end of the mission
No mention that the line that Mangsk uses there is the same we use to nail him in WOL?
lowko doesnt know because he is a noob.
I'm pretty sure that's called a joke and that you're overreacting. Chill. Lowko IS in fact a noob when talking about campaign stuff :P
Think how much trouble Raynor could have saved if he'd recorded his transmissions at the time.
Umm ... the adjutant did. They are a plot point in WoL ... but ... whatever I guess
Lowko: Trying to cheese campaign missions..
They never show it in game, but Kerrigan killed Arcturus's father back when she was a confederate ghost, and he was fully awere of this
there is a better way if you want to do the wraith strategy.
The enemy doesn't rebuild the turrets (or most buildings for that matter) so you take you control group of wraiths and destroy the turrets at the left side, repair wraiths, destroy second row, repair wraiths, lure out science vessel and destroy it, go in and destroy cannon with your mostly undamaged control-group.
Works best if you have two groups of wraiths, so one group can destroy while the other is being repaired/regens energy
Just. Build. A. Second. Command center.
With 4 extra SCVs = 200 minerals, -4 supply; 1 command center = 400 minerals, +10 supply; 400-200=200 minerals that would've built 2 supply depots for 16 supply, 2 over the 10--4=14 differential between CC option & SCV option. Really close!
@LowkoTV hey with the hammer falls the last mission don't mass wraiths go mass battlecruisers just defend your base then take the red base on left side and when you have about like 16-24 battlecruisers send them to destroy the ion cannon trust me it works it has worked for me everytime I've done it just wanted to let you know
Great mission, one of my favorites. I usually pull my buildings down lower then but the add on buildings on them. Then set up dual bunkers with rockets behind them as support against fliers. 2x marines with 2x firebats in front most bunker at each ramp with ghosts and marines at the adjacent ones. helps to keep the ultralisks at bay while not firing up the ramps to kill any buildings with siege tanks. Basically block in the zerg.
Lowko, I was waiting for your reaction with the betrayal and it was GOLD. If you can recap the cinematics in SC2 Wings of Liberty, you can actually see what happened. Even the dialogue was correct. Plus the briefing in the Hammer Falls was the actual conversation that Jim and Matt used to take him down in WOL when they found the adjutant. Again your reaction is PRICELESS. Keep making more vids!
I remember first doing this mission and encoutering the Protoss. They were so alien and ethereal. I loved it.
In one of your videos you mentioned you really like stories in games. I do too and I even like to go a bit deeper than campaign :) SC universe has really nice collection of novels I would definitely recommend. I personally haven't read them all yet, but without spoiling I can that if you really are SC universe FAN you should read at least some novels :) My experience so far: Heavens Devils - you meet Raynor and Tychus. (I read it after WoL, so it was awesome to get to know Tychus:) ). Devils Duo - in this you understand why - "Old Tychus gonna love this one" (Raynor says this just before mission where you gonna rob a train). And of course you get to see what bond Jim and Tychus really has. Next I read Ghost - Nova and Ghost - Spectre and all comics. Those give you an understanding of Nova. Her, lets say rough (understatement) patch of becoming a ghost. You actually meet Tosh and there are some interesting history there :) And to top this all up - in one book you actually find out, why Arcturus sacrificed Kerrigan ;) Sorry for a long post - I get exited talking about story books :) PS - thanks for channel.
The Ion Cannon mission is one of the most hard in all of the entire game so far.
I hate it so much...
The finale is always the hardest in the SC1 missions. This one encouraged slow pushes. Move up, dig in, move up again...And you see a demonstration of the threat of Ghosts and why they should not be taken lightly.
Lowko, did you forget the Starcraft 2 teaser videos? That scene was recreated for Starcraft 2.
The fact that Kerrigan was betrayed by Mengsk is the base of the campaign and if the lore of SC2 ... how could you miss it ?
