Another thing is in High School it's fine to be reading such books. I even did a report on a book that detailed sexual abuse to a minor. The qualifications are actually pretty steep. At least a 4 year degree, plus certification which includes months of unpaid student teaching. Even then, the pay is lousy. It's a hard job to get and an even harder one to do.

But absolutely, under no circumstances, should a parent leave their child in that environment if this is not dealt with. I think it is past time to start getting the department of justice involved in these cases, NOT let the school board investigate. According to federal law it is illegal to distribute "obscene" materials to anyone under the age of 16. In my opinion that is EXACTLY what these teachers/board members are doing. End of story. Federal charges all around. I knew a guy that got a ticket for urinating publicly in New York. He went to court and told the judge "I didn't know it was against the law". The judge told him "ignorance of the law does not excuse you from the law". That has really stuck with me my whole life (I heard that story over 30 years ago). I have taught my kids that lesson and now these people need to learn that lesson. Perhaps part of the training for becoming a teacher and school board member should include legal training for what is and is not allowed.
