For a machine purchased in the UK, the earthing strap is a bit unusual on the cassette recorder. From what I remember it indicates that the cassette player was one originally destined for the American market. RF shielding requirements in Europe were looser, so European models could be shipped without it. Other than that, I think they were identical to American ones.
@@TheMrJamu interesting! I have a couple - one from the US with it, and one from the UK without. Same for my older C2Ns. The British one doesn’t even have a proper plug, just a Molex, which is what I remember having when I was a kid, while the American one has the same plug as shown in the video.
When you say it's been in the box since May... was that this year or last? 😆Glad it's working though. £80 seems not bad for it boxed with some accessories. Prices just seem to keep going up on all this stuff still.

All my 1530 (C2N) tape recorders have the earthing strap. And they were bought in Finland.

May last year. I didn't want to rush the unboxing so waited till I had some time to spend on it. It's a great little machine.
