Today's #ThumpinThursday tunes:
1. Gorillaz-Feel Good Inc.
2. Black Sabbath-N.I.B.
3. The Band-The Weight
4. Green Day-Longview
Krist Novoselic said about these basses that he could toss them into a brick wall and didn't need to retune them when picking them up again.
It was also a Ripper which he tossed into the air and which landed right on his head as it came down during the 1993 MTV Music Awards.
Saw it live , good performers on that night
*1992
I’m so dedicated to this channel, I even watch thump’n Thursday. ImI
There are some bass players who watch and enjoy Thumpin' Thursday.
My Ripper, identical to this one, is my pride and joy. Best purchase I’ve ever made on eBay. Took a gamble and it paid off. Just an absolute tone monster.
i've been a bass player for 43 years. the most valuable lesson i ever learned about getting along in a band is NO ONE CARES WHAT THE BASS PLAYER THINKS. once i understood that, i became the most sought after bassist around
That is good life advice.
I got to the words "bass player", and realized the rest would be nothing relevant, so I quit reading. 😁
tiny b - Bravo!
Well that good. But I’m a bass player that’s the leader of the band and still have the same 5 guys I play with. And I also got sought after the most in my area.
Us lowly bassist do appreciate it.
"Lowly". Lol But yeah, I second that.
The best sounding Gibson Bass are the Thunderbird no doubt !
Christopher Quinn but get it, lowly haha
Nope! Guitars are lowly. It’s all about the bass and drums!
LOVE these. Grabbers, Rippers, and especially G3s are some of my favorite basses ever.
Man, I remember back in the mid- 90's...these things were sitting in pawn shops and pretty much everywhere used for $300-400. They are awesome for heavy bass tones, doom and stoner rock. I should have capitalized on them when I could have but hindsight is 20/20 and that's why guys like Norm have the big bucks.
And the bass players appreciate you Mark!!
I'm not ashamed to admit I play bass, I always look forward to Thumpin' Thursday
When I was a kid we could never find a bass player. I respect you guys. Good bass players are hard to find.

??? WHY BE ASHAMED ???
FUCK MARKS ATTITUDE
I'VE PLAYED GUITAR N BASS EVERYDAY FOR 58 YEARS ✔️
CARLOS GUITARLOS USA
You should be proud
I wholeheartedly believe that no one should profit from someone else's misery. It's a good thing I don't get paid to enjoy when Mark plays bass. Thumpin' Thursday is the best day of the week!
Always out do it yourself as usual- - fantastic Mark! Planning a trip to Norman’s to purchase a guitar can’t wait to see the place.
I learned to play on one of these. Always wanted one.
A Bill Lawrence masterpiece -- and so much lighter than a Fender bass!
Yesssssss... Thanks Mark!
Thumping Thursday my favourite day of the week to see a bass on the RUclips!!!! Still wish we has bass of the day with a real bass player. I gave up asking for Vox guitars but still hope to see one.
That’s the bass Mark Evans used on most of the 1st 4 AC/DC records! Awesome!
Now this is a bass I like. With great songs
Danko Danko Danko Danko Danko Danko Danko
This actually brings back good memories. My first concert was LZ. Kezar '73 in support of HOH. First indoor concert was ELP, SF Civic in support of BSS about 6 months later. A GP cover storyy with Greg Lake then had him with i believe the same axe, though then it was just The Ripper or Grabber, so who knows. He played this and a LP Custom.
btw, both concerts were great.
Hey man, I was at Kezar, that day Tubes opened, Lee Michaels, white doves released when Zeppelin, took the stage, great show !
Yeah, Greg Lake played one of those on their Welcome Back tour in 73. It was BOOMING when I saw ELP. He's playing it on the album cover.
The Millennium Falcon Bass!
I got one when I was a senior in high school (1992) for I think $400. Two years later Delta broke the headstock off. About 20 years later it's working again, but with a Kelling Sound harness. It sounds beastly.
Interesting Bass, great ThumpinThursday! However! Gotta do a Maton!
well it's pretty cool looking , sounds great and looks as though it plays real easy , it's thumpy thumperstein for sure , great set Mark , some Sabbath and Greenday in the same set , bass players and drummers are the anchor to all rock n roll bands.
Gosh, I do love the RIPPER!
Love the Green Day
Beautiful sweet maple goodness.
Had a black one back in the day. Traded a Casino for it because the band I was in thought I needed a bass with frets. (Still have my fretless Precision)
Simon Deeth
PLAYED A FRETLESS ALL DAY
CARLOS GUITARLOS USA
Longview made me want to learn bass again. Dammit, I thought I was over that phase.....
That's still such a great bassline
Am I the only one who loves thumping Thursday
Ace
HEY ACE
THUMPING THURSDAY IS THE BEST GUITAR OF THE DAY ✔️
I'VE PLAYED GUITAR N BASS NOW 58 YEARS SINCE AGE 10
I'M 68 NOW I OWN 34 BASSES
ALL DIFFERENT & ALL COOL
TODAY I PLAYED MY FENDER FRETLESS PRECISION BASS FOR 5 HOURS
CARLOS GUITARLOS USA
We all love Thumpin Thursday !!!!
@@GuitarlosCarlos ...YOU THE MAN, CARLOS !
Ace I subscribed just for thumping Thursday.lol
Correction: the Grabber had a sliding pickup, not the three pickups. The G3 had the three pickups, hence G3. You did redeem yourself at the end by playing Longview. Touché on that. Thumping Thursday is the best day of the week.
I’m just trying to keep ya accurate dude. The Grabber, Ripper, G3 family of basses are what got me playing. They are the best rock basses Gibson made! The black headstock is only on certain years and models, and I think, better looking. Dirnt had a G3.
Has he done a Grabber?
James Holman Chester Hansen from BBNG used a grabber for a while, you should check them out if you haven’t heard of them yet
@@jamesholman4489 FWIW, Dirt used a P bass to record Dookie. But yes, he used a G3 from time to time and used one in the Longview video. It's the reason I picked up a Grabber from a friend BITD. The Ripper and G3 are much better basses than the Grabber.
I love my 1973 ripper.
Hell yeah!!!
Dickey Betts needs your well wishes and love, he had a stroke today.
Gonzo 59 amen brother
He had a stroke a couple of weeks ago. The hospitalization today was due to a head injury he received when he slipped and fell whilst playing with his dog in the yard.
my bad bro, I have been smokin weed and well you know, yes he fell and got hurt pretty bad most likely stoke related.
👍
Damn, didn't hear about either events. Come on Dicky, Up and at 'em
#ThumpinThursday #1981L9Sripper
1)Feel Good Inc/Gorillaz
2)NIB/Black Sabbath
3)The Weight/The Band
4)Longview/Green Day
also my favorite Gibson bass. cool demo mark. hi jen 🎥🎸
Nice
best thing about Thumpin Thursday is knowing flat top Friday follows......
I had one. I miss it.
The Bass of my dreams
You should do a show about basses, call it base of the day, because basses are that awesome
I play bass and not ashamed to say it! Thumping Thunder Thursday!
Nice bass
I had a Grabber. It weighed about 39 pounds and had only 1 sliding pup.
Song 1: Feel Good Inc. - Gorillaz (FEEL GOOD)
Song 2: NIB - Black Sabbath
Song 3: The Weight - The Band
Song 4: Longview - Green Day
Ya finally a green day song! Not that its Marks fault for that but man that won him some cool points.
Hi Jen
Thats my dream bass but i like the 1975 one its the best
Yeah that's a nice bass
Grabber is 1 p/u, the 3 is the L6 Gene Bass
Not a big fan of thumpin thursday but i think it would be very entertaining to see mark do some slap bass
Have a Seventies Ripper, ebony, it does rip!
Could practically skateboard off of that valoot...BTW have any vintage ukuleles?
IS THAT A FLAT TOP RIGHT SCREEN, WITH TWO PICKGUARDS FOR LEFT AND RIGHT ON SAME GUITAR?
Yas
All EQs at noon...the galaxy of Andromeda will be reverberating!
Is it me or is there string buzz throughout the video? And besides Mike Dirnt, isn’t that also the early Gene Simmons base?
Noticed that too
Mike had The G3 with the 3 single coils, krist Novoelic of Nirvana, used these.
I'm pretty sure the string buzz is the sound of acoustic guitars vibrating. Mine do that when I play bass at home, too.
Can you guys do a vid on the Bass of Doom?
I am fortunate to have a 73 1st run of this bass. I think this demo plays it down. Put a new set of Roto 66s on these and they sound like a piano. You bass players know what I mean. If you love that sound you will love this bass. Plays like buttah
The best thing gibson ever did.
Grabber had the sliding PUP didn't it? Or was that some other universe of "Grabber" ? I knew they were junk...er, I mean legit when the mighty Gene Simmons donned one.. Hi Jen..
Didn't we do this one a couple days ago?
"If you can't make fun of yourself, make fun of other people" - Richard Jenny
OH YEAH!!!! LONG VIEW...I can See 4 Miles!
Finally some sabbath !!!!
Mike Dirnt had one of these in the early 90s. Great bass if you ask me.
Nightsandpiper0 Mike had a G3 with the single coils, Krist Novoselic had a few of these.
NearRedundant If you watch Woodstock 94 Mike is playing a bass similar to this but with a single bridge humbucker with a kinda Fly-V shaped head stock.
What are the two holes to either side of the bridge? Was there some sort of cheesy cover originally?
I prefer the black finish.
I will take the abuse as long as you keep making thumpin Thursday videos
Quiero una se me rompió la mía en dosxd
thumping Thursday......doh!
Please demo a Minarik Infernos guitar...
Dang that position 3 tho
Positions 2 and 4 sound the most usable to me.
Geezer!
5.Green day Longview
“Thanks” Mark...we appreciate you!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Feel good inc is played an octave lower
Where are the Steinbergers??
#3 THE WEIGHT The Band

Not feeling the Bass love today ☹... cool Bass though. More Bass love required next week Mr Agnesi
I can dig it.
Happy Thumpin' Thursday
everyone. Gene $immon$
anyone?
Body similar to a c 2015 PRS S2 or SE Custom
Nice color. Nice shape. Too muddy sound
Eric faley I don’t think Jenn’s equipment can record the bass well. All the recordings sound terrible
Shaka Shaka Shaka Shaka Shaka Feel good
Sorry bout that, kinda had to.
?.... if you don't like Thumpin' Thursday then do your schpeal and get a guest bassist!
LMAO VICTOR VLUTIN BABY!!
Love the basses. One of the things I look forward to the most is Thumpin' Thursday. Really could care less about Flat Top Friday, to be honest.
Please stop bitching about the basses, it's getting old.
Rick Danko
Why the Hat'n on Bass ??? Everything sucks without a good Bassist !! Chris Squire, John Wetton, Geddy Lee ... Etc : D
Gene Simmons Bass?
Negative. Gene played a Grabber.
I knew it was one of those okay thanks.
@@notsteelopus he played both
