@@maxsdad538 just saw Mark last Thursday as part of the "Happy Together" your. He looks rough. Howie hasn't toured since 2018. It would have been great to see them both together. Their chemistry was a legend

I really love The Turtles and especially this song, as my name is Eleanor☺️. Really all of their songs are Great!!! It is good easy listening sing along with music. No trashy words, when music was innocent. They call it bubble gum music... I just call it good music my opinion only...❤️✌🏼️
The Turtles really did not qualify as bubble gum. That was the Archies, the Monkees, Partridge Family, etc. The Turtles were genuine rock musicians who wrote and played original songs. They played live and toured the US, England and Europe. I don't know about Australia, though.
That Howard Kaylan, what an incredible voice. Mark Volman was not too shabby either. This song, Elenore, requires very high notes, and both these guys hit the nail right on.

The Turtles were a fantastic live band, and this is no mime performance. I heard people tell me that they sounded so close to their records live it was amazing . .No Tapes!
Yes they did sound like their records. Caught them in the 70’s in Memphis at the coliseum as an opening act for the 3 Dog Night. I have to say I was glad to hear and see the Turtles and in my opinion were better than 3 Dog Night. Of course the draw was 3 Dog Night because I wanted to see them live also. What a great performance and memory!!

I'm a 68 year old American man, a Native of Iowa. In what I believe was the late 1960s my Father was on a business trip and snowed in, grounded at the airport in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Flo & Eddie, man this brings back memories, I would not trade being young in the 60- 70’s for anything. What a great time to be young and free. Kids today don’t know what real freedom is.
Yeah, High School music. I used to drive to and from school in my 1960 Chevy Nova listening to such as this on the AM radio (you could buy AM/FM radios in those days; but no stations on FM yet). Listening to this takes me back to another long ago time; I can even smell things from the past, like coal burning. Today, we know all about the bands, but back then we knew nothing but which song matched which artist. No internet, no cell phones, a lot of TV was still B&W, and cable TV was still years away. Unless you lived in a city, you didn't even have broadcast TV. You rarely even knew what your favorite band looked liked.
Bonzo T Alonzo I'm 63 and I love the time I grew up in. Norman, OK, a college town, OU football was in its glory days, hippies everywhere. Our parents were thinking the world was coming to an end! Now, I get to tell my kids about Woodstock, the sexual revolution, kids being carried out of school on a bad trip from LSD, all the pot even on the high school campus in one particular bathroom at any given time. Guys protesting cause they couldn't buy beer but they were drafting them and sending them to Vietnam to kill and be killed. The music especially was good, though. We saw so many transitions in a short period of time. A person had their choice of so many styles of music and they were all great. Sometimes on a trip my husband and I will turn Our satellite radio to an oldies station and still sing every word and talk about what we were doing before we met. Of course, growing up in a college town, I had him beat. He was raised in northern OK on a farm in a small town. That had its own charm and great memories. But the music, the music is our common thread.
66thru68veteran If you listen songs from that period its much more complicated than these new songs in harmony, orchestration. They didnt used auto tune, they dont use tone of musical equipment on stage, but sound very good.
+ThefightingCelt I'd heard the band was under pressure to write something commercial, so they deliberately, sarcastically wrote the geekiest stuff they could ('gee, I think you're swell'??) - and what happens, it's their biggest hit! A great, creative band, hitmakers in spite of themselves.
Yes , probably knowing full well it would be a hit . Most pop rock groups , unlike some of the more esoteric driven solo artists , seek fame and fortune - contrary to what they say publicly during their early years . Some just use different guises in their effort to get where they want to be .
+ThefightingCelt because pop usually takes itself so seriously outside of kanye, kendrick, death grips, miley, gaga, and kesha, you don't have a lot of popular music that has even a slight sense of humor or self-awareness about its silliness kanye jams in lines that reveal him to be a massive martin lawrence dork (jerome is a terminally unhip character from the comedian's sitcom) and samples increasingly odd songs for somebody as popular as him (a popular artist would not reference obscure soul groups, krautrock bands, and king crimson), kendrick's use of skits and alternate narrative methods display both a sense of disturbing drama (the increasingly intoxicated voice on "u") and black comedy (the skits on good kid, m.A.A.d. city, the ridiculousness of k-dot interviewing tupac), death grips take the pretentions of noise music and industrial rap and filter it through 4chan injokes, miley made an entire experimental pop album where all she wanted to do was to have fun and make whatever (even if it sucked in the end), gaga's entire career is built on being silly-but-loud-and-proud (which makes her very close to Flo & Eddie's ethos), and kesha's albums are always humorous to some extent (but smarter than they appear, like the Turtles and Frank Zappa). music is just so goddamned unfun nowadays. that's not to say an album can be both deadly serious and great (look at Bowie's last album), but great albums always have a sense of humor about them, even if it's rare. nirvana's albums had songs making fun of radio-friendly pop, '60s bubblegum rock, and kurt's tryhard rebellion during his teenage years in aberdeen. the best glam rock is both cheesy as all hell and altogether innovative music. prog rock, by default, has to mix some humor in just to make the music more palatable. but think of the bands that take themselves too seriously: america. journey. eagles after hotel california. iron butterfly. they don't make interesting music. they think they're so important that they strip out any and all humor. this is why I get upset when people call kanye a "bad artist." I'm like "have you heard an America album? they're the most humorless bunch of expatriates I've heard in my life. sure, there's 'Horse with No Name,' 'Ventura Highway,' and 'Sister Golden Hair,' but trying to get through even their greatest hits? it's a total drag! at least I can laugh at the parts on yeezus that are meant to be ridiculous - all of 'I am a god,' parts of 'hold my liquor,' the weirdo references in 'bound 2' and 'on sight,' etc." to me, the Turtles work on that same principle. they know they sound like every Don Kirshner production on the radio. they know they're trying to make a stereo phil spector production. and they're led by two vocalists with a knack for making fun of everything strange about the '60s - hell, there's a reason why zappa let them join his band for three years. of course "happy together" and "elenore" are hilarious and beautiful. that's the genius of it, really.
They wrote this song as a joke. Bubble Gum music was getting popular, and their record company told them to come up with one. They weren't crazy about the idea, so they were being facetious when they gave them "Eleanor." Turns out to be one of my favorite songs of all times. I can't tell you how many times I sang it in bands, and never got sick of it. I love songs like that with big harmony. It's a great song.
Eleanor is an old woman's name, not one you'd expect in a teen love song. The lyrics are purposely banal. But the execs didn't care. They knew a hit when they heard one. Glorious melody and vocals!
A Decade before my knowledge of starting to listen to music, but wow, they really were great. I knew Happy Together growing up, but amazing songs like this as I've aged have proved how awesome this group was!
We saw Flo & Eddie on New Years Eve at the Bottom Line in NYC 15 years in a row.. It was our tradition- great times- they were so much fun live- I really miss these guys!
Apart from the excellent performance is the excellent direction. No cut, cut, cut, swoosh zoom, swoosh zoom. Just nice... long... shots... so the viewer can focus on the band's prolific talent.
The Turtles were my introduction to rock concerts. They played at my high school in Granada Hills, Ca. in early 1966 for a special assembly of sorts. Events like that were common in the Los Angeles area during the 1960's. Fun times.
One of the most overlooked and underrated bands of all time, the Turtles were a well honed house band before they broke out. Great harmonies and musicianship!
There was no Autotune and ProTools back then. I've always loved the vocals from these guys. These songs take me back to the 1960's and 1970's an era that was filled with some of the most incredible music ever produced. It was a time when we had to use our imagination. Life was so much simpler back then. I know it could never be that way again so I hold on to these songs like valuable jewelry.
Just a brilliant feel good band with great records wish I could go back to the sixties but here I am in 2024 still listening to and still singing these great songs well never relive these great times and while these artists are still with us we need to make the most of them.
I saw them in concert...at a skating rink in Downey, CA...back in '68(?). The crowd was really rude to them. Kids had brought squirt guns. It was sad. But they WERE good!
These guys were so lovely they made a great sound of the 60s ,This divine classic still looms large in my hits ,, What a beno we had xx such happy times and memories lol Jane x💗🧡💛💚💜🤎🖤❤🧡

I never got to see who was singing when I was young. I'm now 58. The two lead people are so opposite. What fun to see this. Thanks TurtlesHappyTogether!
I am 58 as well! I somehow managed to see them at a reunion concert at The Beacon Theater in NYC in 1987 (I think). They were so great--just hamming it up like they were on the video and having a great time.
I lived in Southern California as a teen in the 60's. The Turtles, yes, Mark and Howard (the big hair!) .....were the playingest local band ever. We became loyal fans before they had a national hit. It was nothing but good times and music. They were/are just a fun, interesting and lively in person as they appear on YT.
I first heard this song when I was 9 years old; I thought, and still do, that it was the greatest song ever recorded. I am now 61 and still sing along to it when it is played on the radio.
This is proof the 60's 70's best music ever
AND the 80's.
Not in the same league as 60's and 70's.
❤AMEN!!!!
And have you ever seen or heard a better Tambourine player ?
Dude just killed it on this song !
Also proves how popular Elenore was as a name in the 1960s:
Eleanor Rigby Beatles 1966
Elenore The Turtles 1968
Lady Eleanor Lindisfarne 1971

music is just so goddamned unfun nowadays. that's not to say an album can be both deadly serious and great (look at Bowie's last album), but great albums always have a sense of humor about them, even if it's rare. nirvana's albums had songs making fun of radio-friendly pop, '60s bubblegum rock, and kurt's tryhard rebellion during his teenage years in aberdeen. the best glam rock is both cheesy as all hell and altogether innovative music. prog rock, by default, has to mix some humor in just to make the music more palatable. but think of the bands that take themselves too seriously: america. journey. eagles after hotel california. iron butterfly. they don't make interesting music. they think they're so important that they strip out any and all humor.
this is why I get upset when people call kanye a "bad artist." I'm like "have you heard an America album? they're the most humorless bunch of expatriates I've heard in my life. sure, there's 'Horse with No Name,' 'Ventura Highway,' and 'Sister Golden Hair,' but trying to get through even their greatest hits? it's a total drag! at least I can laugh at the parts on yeezus that are meant to be ridiculous - all of 'I am a god,' parts of 'hold my liquor,' the weirdo references in 'bound 2' and 'on sight,' etc."
to me, the Turtles work on that same principle. they know they sound like every Don Kirshner production on the radio. they know they're trying to make a stereo phil spector production. and they're led by two vocalists with a knack for making fun of everything strange about the '60s - hell, there's a reason why zappa let them join his band for three years. of course "happy together" and "elenore" are hilarious and beautiful. that's the genius of it, really.
Mine too! It's a great song. I actually saw this performance on TV when I was a kid.
Eleanor is an old woman's name, not one you'd expect in a teen love song. The lyrics are purposely banal. But the execs
didn't care. They knew a hit when they heard one.
Glorious melody and vocals!
got to be a great song if they can get away with "etcetera" as a lyric!...lol.
@@broadcasttttable And they made it rhyme.
Johnny Barbata kills hit on the trap kit
A Decade before my knowledge of starting to listen to music, but wow, they really were great. I knew Happy Together growing up, but amazing songs like this as I've aged have proved how awesome this group was!
Such a MAGICAL group. Wish we could have groups back like this
We saw Flo & Eddie on New Years Eve at the Bottom Line in NYC 15 years in a row.. It was our tradition- great times- they were so much fun live- I really miss these guys!
These two vocalists have their vocals down very well. We music fans like to hear the same thing in concert as they did on the record, and they got it.
Apart from the excellent performance is the excellent direction. No cut, cut, cut, swoosh zoom, swoosh zoom. Just nice... long... shots... so the viewer can focus on the band's prolific talent.
What a great band and what a great song. To do that live and sound so good is the test of a great band.
I absolutely love them.....at age 72.....Elvis.....CCR ....and other so called Bubble Gum music is still the best.
Love the Turtles.
Best act ever, some fun guys. Saw them twice in Sydney in the mid 70's.
Just shows you. A another golden Oldy that will never dies.......... ❤
This is a fantastic live performance of a killer late-'60s hit. Well done, gentlemen.
Maravillosa canción!!!! Ocho añitos tenía yo cuando filmaron este vídeo.
Just a brilliant feel good band with great records wish I could go back to the sixties but here I am in 2024 still listening to and still singing these great songs well never relive these great times and while these artists are still with us we need to make the most of them.
Howard's voice anchors the euphoria to reality. But the background voices make it feel like they're being backup by a full orchestra!
eternamente exelente lo que le dedico a las nenas que he querido...
One of my favorite groups
Such a beautiful song. Makes me want to walk through a sunny meadow wearing a floaty dress and straw hat. 💐💚
I saw them in concert...at a skating rink in Downey, CA...back in '68(?). The crowd was really rude to them. Kids had brought squirt guns. It was sad. But they WERE good!
Love The Turtles for ages!!!! Another classic 60s groove!!!
I have this fab song on 45 vinyl - it never gets old (unlike me!)
1968. Senior year of high school. A great song by an underappreciated group. Great memories !
One of my all time faves as well......from a Turtles fan in Ireland
These guys were so lovely they made a great sound of the 60s ,This divine classic still looms large in my hits ,, What a beno we had xx such happy times and memories lol Jane x💗🧡💛💚💜🤎🖤❤🧡
One of the greatest perfect pop tunes ever written. Period
I love this song and the 60s music ! I was 9 when this song first came out in 1965 !
Patti i like your comment , this very fine classic belongs in a splendid era , the 60s was some thing else , its music was so diverse , what a choice we had x i have always adored this lovely song , i always wanted to be called Ellener xx lol Jane x🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Very pleasant and soothing. 🇬🇧
I never got to see who was singing when I was young. I'm now 58. The two lead people are so opposite. What fun to see this. Thanks TurtlesHappyTogether!
The Florescent Leech and Eddie.
THEY WERE FABULOUS! THANKS
Hola gracias por la oportunidad que nos dan de escuchar estas bellas canciones de mi juventud
This song...and I cherished 60s music...was always special to me. My personal no. 1 song of the decade.
Me encantaba escuchar eleonora cuando estaba en Secundaria 1972.
I love this song, good times
Luv this song 🎉 If you’ve loved someone whose parents didn’t approve…
I first heard this song when I was 9 years old; I thought, and still do, that it was the greatest song ever recorded. I am now 61 and still sing along to it when it is played on the radio.
Fortunato che siamo tutti ....
Più passa il tempo più grande l'amore per questa musica
