    Thanks Toasty for clarifying what you meant by using the reset button! Excellent video!

    Waiting for the day you try out a Mikrotik router.. but I learned on the edge routers so I’ll always watch these.. :)

      Same... I picked my poison early. I've had experience with Mikrotik and they're definitely awesome, but I'm so used to Edgerouter at this point.
      I will say their 10Gb switches are on point.

    Still running an EdgerouterX 7 yrs in and it's rock solid. Maybe some day it'll need replaced

    Still using my ER-X with hardware offloading on my 500/50 connection. Works well and incredibly stable, but I’m itching to migrate to UniFi UDM to match my AP.

    Hmm, I have been using the ER-6P for a long time (maybe 10 years), never knew the hardware offload needs to be explicitly enable. I have been getting 980Mbps WAN from-to LAN (VLANs), and just accepted it.
    IPSec tests were close to 500Mbps for me and I just thought it's the hardware limit of the device.
    Glad to know it's supposed to do more! Thanks for the guide!
    Do you know with ER (Edge Router) series basically being discontinued, which series is supposedly be the successor? I am thinking of dream machines pro, but it seems to be a complete overkill for regular home setup.

      I believe the spiritual successor is the UISP Router line of devices. I will say that they appear to have less features than the older Edgerouter Line... but they're also geared toward ISP applications instead of home-use. (As the Edgerouter really has always been).
      I think Ubiquiti is trying to further separate the two device categories and they're paying more attention to the UDM-Pro-Type devices than the UISP line.

    I have a small question since I have not been able to figure it out
    Do you have a idea of how to make ipv6 firewall rules both to allow internet for other then main subnet ( I have 3 ipv6 subnets ) and also how to allow communications between subnets ( again ipv6 subnets )
    The only thing I know is that it has to be done in the terminal but I have not been able to locate examples for it

    Very clear, Thanks for sharing.
    Howe do you upgrade to a new firmware ?

      I should probably do a video on this, but Ubiquiti basically stopped putting out firmware updates for these devices a while ago.
      Basically, you go to the Ubiquiti download website and download the latest .tar firmware file. Then, login to the Edgerouter GUI and open the "System" menu (bottom-left part of the page). Lastly, select the "Upload a file" button in the "upgrade system image" section and select the image file you just downloaded.
      You can sometimes get an error that the device doesn't have enough storage.... that's pretty common, but it will require you login to the CLI and delete the old system image before proceeding.

    excellent content! i have my eth 1 and 2 in bridge mode eth 1 to my asus router and eth 2 to my ps5 with separate QOS settings. is that optimal or would i receive better performance not using bridge mode? sorry for the long winded question

    • @ToastyAnswers
      @ToastyAnswers  28 дней назад

      If you are using bridged mode then I assume you are using something like an ER-4. Technically, performance would be better without bridge-mode, but that is only for traffic traversing between Eth1 and Eth2 (To/From your Asus Router and PS5). The bridge-mode should make very little difference on traffic to/from the internet (eth0).
      From your description, I imagine most traffic is simply going to and from the internet and not between the PS5 and anything beyond the Asus router. Bridge-mode should be perfectly fine in this scenario.

      @ i tried bridge mode with both hardware offloading and qos on but could not manage a consistent ping on any devices. i have a 950down/35up connection. i eventually disabled eth2/bridge mode and just ran eth 1 to my asus ax11000. i noticed lower ping spikes and better performance when manually setting the DNS on the asus router settings to the default DNS provided from the isp. cloudflare and google dns was giving ping spikes of over 100ms. with QOS even set to 100mbps i could not maintain a solid ping, not sure what i can do to fix it. sorry for the long winded response, you just seem very very knowledgeable and experienced lol

    EdgeOS 3.0 on the horizon should be interesting!

      Using rc9. It’s not that interesting

      I didn't know they were even still working on EdgeOS...
      I'm definitely interested, but I remember the transition from v1 to v2 was... one step forward, two steps back. It wasn't until later in the lifecycle that it became worth it to upgrade.

    Could you make a video with EdgeRouter with ETH1 (Switch 1 Uplink unmanaged with Jumbo Frame enabled from factory model: QSW-2104-2S-A-US) and EHT2 (Switch 2 Uplink Model: ES-10XP (Managed Switch) Boths Interfaces on Bridge (br0) but needs enable Jumbo Frames on Boths Interfaces to access NAS from 1 Device Connected on SW2 and the NAS connected on the SW1

    I love my Edgerouter, it's a unique product. But I'm not sure I'd recommend it in 2024. The lack of regular security updates is concerning.

    • @ToastyAnswers
      @ToastyAnswers  2 месяца назад +1

      Can't really argue with that as a standalone device. There's still value in the product, but you definitely have to have additional "layers" of security around it.

    So what does The Vlan offload do ? I have my Vans all set up on a L2/3 switch. So will the off load help my speed ?
