Looks great. I'd suggest not apologizing for having professional tools as a professional custom furniture maker buf keep the suggestions for how to do things for the hobbyist that might not have the thing you're using yet. Great series, I am learning a lot about veeneering through you. Keep making a thing :)
I may have tool envy at times but definitely not something to apologize for. You're really good at pointing out alternatives every time you bring out a Festool. So please don't ever change what you're doing. I'm here for skill building. You're a fantastic teacher and great at explaining!
One of the things I enjoy about the good woodworking RUclips channels (like this one!) is observing the way the maker uses the tools he (or she..I’m looking at YOU, Tamar!) has on hand for a joinery task, and thinking about how I could do that same thing with the tools I have on hand. Sometimes it leads me to a satisfying solution that I use in my own shop and making, and sometimes it makes me think, “Hmmm… I may need to buy that tool.” Either way, the process of watching Erik or Jason or Tamar make a thing and then meditating on it enriches my experience of woodworking, which is the ultimate goal. I don’t have a Festool anything. But never say never. That track-saw-router-thingy has my brain working in unexpected directions. BTW, Erik, love the new mug.
That is exactly what I was thinking! I think it is sad for creators like Eric having to justify the tools they bought by hardworking making woodwork ! Let’s make woodworking a better place and leaving these ‘I know better’ frustrated/ Karen in their own place
I've watched most of your videos over the last view weeks. I love your no no nonsense approach to woodworking - very refreshing. Your never too old to learn something new. This old fart now has very sharp planes without a great deal of effort. One of many things learnt thanks to you. Laughter is good for the soul. Keep it up.
Me, making a cabinet, clicks immediately. I am inclined to agree and cannot wait to see what you have to say. As I suffer a cabinet build of my own right now
It's coming together nicely! I always enjoy hearing your design philosophy, and your discussion about the different tools and techniques we can use to achieve the same outcome. Keep up the good work 🙂
I'm watching this from one of the Baltic countries and smiling when you mention that Baltic birch is expensive. But if seriously, I can understand it... it's like how walnut would be for me.
I am liking the contrast of the woods. Thanks for keeping that footage for the opening. I find the discussion of the part between you and your shopmate to also be valuable about the potential problems and how it would affect the overall piece. That said, you got lucky.
Australian here. I'm fairly certain the Australian Walnut veneer you've got is commonly referred to here as Queensland Walnut. Its not a true walnut and has a distinctive odour however its not Australian Blackwood. Australian Blackwood on the other hand comes from Victoria and Tasmania and is generally referred to here as Tassie Blackwood. Its also a relative of Hawaiian Koa. So I'd stick with the Aussie Walnut name as opposed to Blackwood. Loved the video as always 👍
11:40 I have used aluminum square tubing to trap a router for a dado. It works well. I never knew a router would work on a track saw track. That’s cool!
For some reason YT believes it can manipulate those who follow a maker, I'm no longer able to comment directly on your feed (and others YT channels)!; sad, but bye Erik. It shouldn't have come to this, but it did. have a good life, and may you survive YT servitude.
T shirt. “Doing the work creates the momentum “ When the video started with a different view, I thought oh no he’s not showing the original walk into shop scene, rats ass I thought, that’s one of my favorite parts 😀. Thanks for keeping it in a later shot. Sure is some beautiful wood, eager to see more. Enjoy yourself at Maker Camp.
Dumb question from a true veneer newbie: I noticed you used blue tape, then some kind of “holey” tape (I think it’s called veneer tape) on the other side, then removed the blue tape. Did you glue the seams of the veneer? Or is the veneer tape being used to hold the seams together while you glue the veneer panel to the substrate? In other words, can you explain the process when making veneer panels and glueing them to substrate? I hope the question makes sense. So sorry it’s a long question, but these are the things I struggle with (I warned you I’m a newbie….). Thank you SO much for your videos!!! I really do find inspiration and education from them. Everything from design to process. Your approach is understandable and your methods are very clear.
Eric, why didn’t you use the track stop instead of blue tape to set your end point for the dado? Seems the physical stop, would be more accurate and consistent on both panels. I use the locking track end stop often and it works well for situations like this. Using the saw track with a router, is one of the main reasons I got the Festool track saw and OF router system, very versatile and accurate work. Cheers
Idk, if it looks too good I guess I could give it a home. You don't want the pressure of making it too good and then having to replicate it, you would just wind up giving yourself ulcers 😂😂. Jk, great work, great content and a very good woodworker, now that's the trifecta I aim for! Keep doing you and stay safe 💯😁
How do you set the Domino when cutting the mortises in the rabbit? Do you press the base/plate intersection into, the corner of the rabbit or do you add a similar thickness spacer next to,the wood on the work bench and come in from the outside edge or? What is the reference surface? Thanks.
I think it would be interesting to see your construction drawings for these various projects. Too, it would be inclusive if you included a playlist of your background music because you have good taste, son.
9:51 I "wood-nerd" over Hinoki. I get boards from a man I know in Japan for making stools for my Customers if they request it. Erik...sir...buddy...if you haven't worked with Hinoki...you simply MUST add it to your bucket list man.
That’s it! I am done! You’ve gone too far this time. You changed the mug…… Great video as always. I really liked the way you walked us through the assembly and how the tolerances might change during assembly.
To my taste I would have veneered the internal face of the two exterior panels (a more wide and visible area), not the internal faces of those central dividers. Plus it would have give the illusion of two separate cabinets inside the main one. I repeat, just my taste, not a critique.
Some projects I'll "blindly" forge ahead knowing, roughly, what the end should look like, very sure on the first 40% and having some sort of clue - but not really - on how to do or what the last 60% will look like. I have skills - I'll get there. I do expect the project to speak to me, or at least inspire me to go in one direction vs another. Gets a wee bit scary when the project is silent on the matter for a bit. :^) However; this bites me in the arse when I tackle a project were I have never done that thing before (and really should buy plans) - like a telescope I started 20 years ago. Still not done. Guess it's on the 30 year plan now. :P
Nooooo.... MDF just breaks my heart and is one wood product I refuse to use. Can't wait to see how your latest project turns out. I'm betting stunning as always. Keep up the good work.
Please don't apologise for having purchased professional quality items for your workshop. if your viewers are still ragging on you for Domino's and tracks, then that's their problem not yours. Oh and the falling over thing at the top of the video - bet i've done it more than you 😆
Are melamine boards somehow seen as a cheap material to build cabinets with over there in the USA? Why virtually no cabinet maker here in RUclips uses melamine boards? 😮
The melamine I see being used in videos outside of the states is a much better grade overall. The melamine we get at our big box stores is close to sawdust and glue. It just turns back to dust when you cut it and crumbles if you bump it around. We can get quality melamine from our hardwood dealers but it can be definitely more expensive than cabinet grade plywood.
I really like your site. I know you are big on using proper language and would suggest you not curse in your videos. On discussing the oak veneer you said it looked GD fine. You're too good to lower yourself to that language.
I respectfully don’t agree. It’s so rare that swearing appears in his videos that it made the comment pop. I understand that we’re probably on opposite sides of the fence regarding this in general; I just had to say something.
I personally hate built in cabinets. When I bought my home it had cabinets and I am too lazy to take them down. Don't know who came up with that stupid idea. Prefer free standing cabinets, its easier to throw them out and replace them if you get tired of looking at them.
The guy who spends an hour and a half pomading his fake hipster lumberjack hair after practicing an ironic smirk in the mirror thinks something is stupid. Can't wait to find out what.
Looks great. my thoughts exactly..

Glad you were back to your old mug by the end! I always use the same mug!
Me, making a cabinet, clicks immediately. I am inclined to agree and cannot wait to see what you have to say. As I suffer a cabinet build of my own right now
I love that im not alone with the wood nerd moments. I worked with other people who had that and it is always the most fun
It's coming together nicely! I always enjoy hearing your design philosophy, and your discussion about the different tools and techniques we can use to achieve the same outcome. Keep up the good work 🙂
Cool vid and thanks for explaining the process here and there
This is going to be stunning when you're finished with it. Another great video!
The Blackwood just bounces! The perfect choice to contrast with and yet compliment the rest of the build. But then Blackwood does make me happy🙂
I'm watching this from one of the Baltic countries and smiling when you mention that Baltic birch is expensive. But if seriously, I can understand it... it's like how walnut would be for me.
Where do I get these crazy mugs!!???
I also need to know where to get these mugs.
How do you keep the veneer from moving on the panel when you are placing into the vacuum bag? Love your videos learn a lot!
I am liking the contrast of the woods. Thanks for keeping that footage for the opening. I find the discussion of the part between you and your shopmate to also be valuable about the potential problems and how it would affect the overall piece. That said, you got lucky.

Ditto.From what I can see it's Queensland Walnut.Blackwood it ain't.
Good lunchtime video, a couple strong adds to my music collection, thanks. 😎
Looking good! Love the contrast of the woods. I have a guitar amp that the cabinet is made out of Aussie Blackwood. It's a gorgeous species!
OMG love Keith Johnson and remember that incident. Bless his heart.
Great work yet again. That Blackwood looks fantastic. Glad I’m not the only wood nerd out there.
Great Video! Love look. I also agree with an earlier comment about leaving in the other joinery options as they are great alternatives.
So what do I do with this order of custom cabinets I'm working on this week?
Coming together nicely Erik, thanks for the video.👍👍
I think the contrast looks fantastic and as always, way to go bro
Really good advice about momentum dude. Hard to get a thing going sometimes 🤙
Looking good! Love that Blackwood!

Isn't the reason we invest in tools is to make the job easier, faster and more accurate?

Why not cut the Dados with the Shaper Origin? Indexing a Grid of the front line would give you perfect straight and desired width.
As someone who has loved your work (so far:)), I had to ask myself at the start of this video why is Eric using OSB to build cabinets?
thank you EN
love your process vids.... and thanks for turning me on to Tigerblood Jewel... double win!
What do you listen to while woodworking? Or type of music.
Curious about the rationale for not using shouldered dados.
Do you worry about tear-out when making the dados into the veneer? Would a down spiral bit help this?
Great ideas here.

Nice work
1:33 the cat said “I’m outta here, can’t trust this guys work! Might be mere seconds until this one falls too!” 😮
Nice start. Cool. Do lots of pawses makes for a few puppies! LOL.
never thought i would relate to a random expression like i did with "wood nerd", i took it personally
I like these talks we have
fabulous venneer waiting for the next video
what is the guitar music you use on all your videos? ... both intro and as back ground .... gives a great atmosphere to the vids.
That’s it! I am done! You’ve gone too far this time. You changed the mug……
Great video as always. I really liked the way you walked us through the assembly and how the tolerances might change during assembly.
Very nice
1:53 for the ladies ❤️
Leave some for the rest of us E

That falling board sounded like the intro to Du Hast
Nice
Oh noes, a dooomino! 😮
And a TS 55 too? 😮
And rail, and Of1400, and a cabinet saw?
What are you, a cabinet maker? 😂

we pissing hella ppl off with this one
Changing the mug!?!?! I know you shared the maker of your mugs before but I couldn’t find it. Could you share again?
Gravity - she's a harsh mistress.
the clickup link doesn't work ... the one time I click on a sponsor link and it doesn't work!
I just tried it and it worked for me.
Obviously I love stupid things. Just building my fourth cabinet in a row...
Lovely. What would non-westerners call that veneer?
Love it! I'm gonna go feed my rebates now 🐰
Nooooo.... MDF just breaks my heart and is one wood product I refuse to use. Can't wait to see how your latest project turns out. I'm betting stunning as always. Keep up the good work.
Dados, you have a Domino.....
Psh, dominoes…. A real woodworker gnaws their mortise and tenons with their teeth.
5:18 MDF is so heavy though. Couldn’t you have used OSB or something lighter in weight? Asking for a friend
Please don't apologise for having purchased professional quality items for your workshop. if your viewers are still ragging on you for Domino's and tracks, then that's their problem not yours. Oh and the falling over thing at the top of the video - bet i've done it more than you 😆

Ditched the better Harvey and went back to that crappy SawStop huh? Shame.
@ENCurtis, @ENCurtis bro.
