Community Beats Commerce: BTCC In Assetto Corsa

- As is often the case, I'm a little late to the party with the new (ish) BTCC content that's been working it's way through the Assetto Corsa community of late.
While the cars are of course, the stars of the show, I have to admit that it's a couple of small mods that have appeared over the last week that have made it all click for me... i.e. I've got the nostalgia fuzzies again! So much so that I've had to break out the slow-mo, after a long self-imposed ban!

I was a freelance photographer shooting content for Super Touring magazine and the race programs etc. (94-98) I didn’t realise I could get all these for AC. Great video, brings back good memories. thanks Chris
Ah, now that's a good gig!
Hope everything is good with you Chris
He hasn't posted in half a year and also his social media feed seems quiet. Getting worried now.
Chris is everything OK? Haven’t heard from you in a long long time.
Edit ignore turned out Chrissy is ok
To come back to this, later it turned out some clown spread fake rumors and Chris and his family are ok luckily. He just gave up on sim racing temporarily.
Chris we all hope you're OK! We're a bit concerned though.. give us some info what's up. Jardier was asking for you the other day too. ❤❤❤
Hey Chris, Hope you are ok. Take care man.
Yeah i saw something on reddit. We're here and on discord when you need us :)
Chris where are you mate? A lot of people miss your content
The Toca Touring games were one of the early sims that got me into this hobby. I really should give these a go. Iv got the Nissan.
Toca games were the best I've always felt everything else since comes up short
It had a very realistic feel too for the times, like weather and crash damage.
let's hope we get more Supertourers now to fill the grids
Mo Supertourers, no problems!
@@ChrisHaye just need the coffee car, the all-wheel drive boi, and the pug
Like The Chrysler/Dodge Stratus, Mercedes C200, Nissan Sentra, Ford Escort, Fiat Marea, Volkswagen Vento And Bora, SEAT Toledo GT, Opel Astra, Skoda Octavia, Hyundai Lantra And Even The Honda Accord JTCC And NATCC
Like The Unraced Toyota Corolla Liftback?
Almost Forgot To Mention To Audi 80
So sorry for your loss. Look after yourself. :(
They somehow fill a very unique part of SIM racing.
You get to race the cars you loved growing up, great. But better than that. The racing itself is the same as we watched. I think that's why it works SO well.
Yet another classic 'old school' vid that you do so well Chris. Thanks for highlighting some more content that reminds me of days watching World of Sport with my Dad as a kid. I always got excited when I knew the touring cars were coming on the TV :)
So awesome to have you back with AC modding content
We’ve you gone Chris?! Miss your content!!
I’m wondering the same. Hope all is well Chris!
Missing your videos sir :)
Gabrielle Tarquini in that beastly red alfa 155 from a few years earlier than 99 was sight to behold. If I remember correctly, he also rolled it one race.
"Oh, oh, off! It's Tarquini!"
Knockhill 1994
I wish you all the best Chris❤
What happened? 😔
I've only just started playing AC and randomly landed on this video. I almost squealed in delight! That era of BTCC is some of my favorite racing of all time, partly because I owned a Contour SVT (North America's version of the Mondeo) at the time, but mostly because it was just some of the best wheel to wheel, door to door racing ever. Super stoked to install this stuff and run it on the rig tomorrow. You just made my day. Cheers, mate.
Much appreciation for you sir! You've just gone done it again. Brought something else to my attention that, without a moment lost, have begun to download and set up on my AC install. Content manager is whirring away. I can practically hear those touring cars from my childhood roaring away from the grid.. Thank you!
Chris you are the best! Your editing and content is off the Charts!! I'm a 66 year old guy and you have sparked my interest in getting into Sim racing, growing up I always had a desire to track race but with raising a family never could find the funds to do so, watching your channel have given me hope that I can still fulfill my dreams through Sim Racing, I'm sure I am speaking for everyone here, we really appreciate you! Keep up the excellent work!
good to see you posting more again Chris, thanks!
Thanks Jonas - glad to be back!
This is a must have for any motorsport enthusiast!
Beautifully-presented video as ever, Chris. Amittedly I've not paid enough attention to this recent injection of touring car nostalgia from VRC, so I had no idea they matched up well to the PM cars. I'll definitely be giving these a go in the near future. Maybe I'll see you on track some time! 😜
it's seeing Oulton Park back in green & white, and donington back in blue & white that really sells the atmosphere for me, it's such a tiny thing but it gives that little extra sense of place that's lost since MSV put all of their tracks in red & white. it's one of the things I love about croft, just a little glimpse of the green & yellow and it couldn't be anywhere else
Hope you’re staying strong man, life is rough. But there’s light at the end of the tunnel and I know for a fact you’ll make it through💪🏼❤
The 1999 Honda Accord as driven by Thompson and Kox was iconic for me! Looked amazing on track, brilliant livery and, more importantly, my mum had one! My step dad had the Vectra so our driveway really did (to a BTCC mad kid in his early teens) look like a BTCC paddock at times
remember TOCA Touring Car Championship game from 1997 ?
This is spot on, 90s BTCC cars hit a spot that not other racing series can hit and it's not only nostalgia, they feel amazing to drive, one of the best eras of touring car racing in the world.
Great video Chris! Content like this has long been my dream for racing sims and the itch was last this well scratched for me back in Race07. These cars are another level however and for me I was particularly happy to see the Accord appear. I have fond memories of watching Peter Kox and Gabriele Tarquini do battle with the mighty Alfa 156s in the 2000 and 2001 European series. There’s great footage to be found on RUclips of these two seasons.
Been here since just under 10k subs, and stoked to see you hit 100k. Always thought you were massively underrated so stoked to see you get there man. Take care!
Well Done Chris, well spoken: Playing with these is like living the dream, the dream of driving these beasts that we wanted to do so much when we watched them on the telly....following our heroes as they battled it out.... hell, it's only taken a couple of years ;)
Great news on this Chris. I race in the Classic Touring Car Championship in the Supertourer and Pre-03 Classes. If you want to see these actual cars and in some cases the original drivers, in real life the season starts at Silverstone on March 25th and 26th 2023. See you there!!
These mods are pure bliss 😍 love them, especially the VRC Tourers
Such a well made video Chris. Love to see it!
Big up Stephen Bailey, cant wait to immerse myself!
This looks really interesting! This naturally makes me want the modding community to do the same with 90’s era of V8 supercars (I’m an Aussie can ya tell?) They have made the cars (1993-1996 championships are already available with 1997-2002 well underway) and have most of the tracks but not as they were in the 90’s. This really makes me want to invest in a new pc! (I’ve been focusing on raising a family and learning a trade to help support them)
Love this video! Also congratulations on 100k!
I'm not a sim racer and don't follow much motorsport other than f1 but these cars and liveries are ingrained in my brain like core memories. Rydell's s40 in particular immediately brings me back to watching the race highlights and playing toca 1+2 as a kid.
I think you're still making the best, most artistic sim racing videos out there, Treasure...🤪
Seriously, mods like this are what remind me why I love sim racing. Modders like these, who have been improving our games/hobby going all the way back to GPL.
How awesome is that! I only wish to see more early 90’s Supertouring pre-aero cars . We already have the Cavalier!
You're right of course but I've never quite understood why 1999 when 1998 had 2 extra manufacturer teams and just as many indies. Of course thanks to various parties we can do a bloody good job of either season so it doesn't really matter which season either of us wants to be running.
Amazing editing, great video
Is Chris ok? Nothing for 5 months now and Twitter dead also.
I have to go with the Mondeo as my favourite, purely because of its impact on my life. My father's mk2 ST24 and mk3 ST 2.2 were the first modified cars I ever sat in, and now I have a mk3 estate in my driveway. Certainly an early 2000s British icon
Anyone know if Chris is ok?
Wow! That looks amazing and fun! The best Era for BTCC and the years before with the 855/850. If i have to choose a favorit it has to be the Primera and second the Vectra. Best livery had the Peugeot 406
Golden era, elbows out. So lucky to have been around to witness them first hand. Go vauxhall lol!!!!
Thx Chris! Got the Nissan, but need to try out the others :)
Assetto Corsa has become the all-time best racing game ever and the community behind it has been amazing 😍
Just waiting for someone to create a custom championship with these cars truly epic cars
This era of BTCC was like the wrestlers of racing community 😂 I mean literally. They didn't hesitate to crash each others doors while over taking or just trying to leave guy behind.
I remember RUclipsr Aidan Millward calling the SuperTouring era “The Attitude Era” of BTCC, and I can’t agree more. Great times.
Hope you’re well brother
I remember going to my first BTCC Event in 1999 the ford Mondeo was a class car alongside the Volvo s40 then I got hooked on the btcc since then
My favorite? Jason Plato Renault Laguna green with the Nescafé livery. Because I have his car in a 1/43rd…. And am a massive Renault fan.
Still play Toca Touring Car Championship on the old Playstation 1 every now and then. Graphics = horrific. Car handling = twitchy, to say the least. But... if all you want is a fun quick race experience of the BTCC in its prime.. then it is still a decent game to play if you have no PC.
You have the potential to be THE "optimum tech/jackfrags" of sim racing.
Hope you are still happy, whatever you are up to these days.
Can't beat the 94-2000 BTCC era 🔥🔥🔥
Some of the most fun I've had on Sim racing was racing these on SRS, weekly series, same large group of wannabees every week, wheel to wheel, awesome fun!
SRS are running a new series using the VRC mods
@@edwhalley5 yeah, saw that actually. Sadly struggle for time on the day of the race 😔
Sadly because I’m in the US o can’t participate in SRS 😢I love this cars
@@randydelacruz426 you can.. unless we are talking about different SRSs - Sim Racing System? I race with some americans and canadians on there :)
My dad had two Vectras in the late '90s so that's definitely the one for me.
Raced rc touring car back in the 90s and these were my FAV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NICE VIDEO DUDE!!!!!!!
congrats on 100k subs get the play button
Hope you are okay Chris!
I was a big Nissan fan, went twice 98 and 99 at Donington. Met the late David Leslie and he signed my primera model
Its a shame we don't have the Laguna, because that was my favourite. My dad had one when I was little and I loved it
I have a lot of time for Chris Haye, awesome dude.
Excellent video, as usual. Are you using a DD1? Would you mind sharing your ffb settings for these cars please?
I mean, VRC are technically 'commerce' and I think they're on a winner here...
Completely agree about the immersion details granted by tracks and track skins though - one of the things AMS2 does so well is catering for the for whom this particular point (period cars on matching tracks) is an immersion maker; something the modding scene in AC has done an incredible job with for 60s and 50s content, but there's far less about that represents the 90s.
I realise what immersed different people changes from person to person - to me, this matching of cars with tracks from their era is absolutely key in a way that other people may feel about real/fantasy liveries or small tweaks to handling models. Glad it's not just me!
For a certain age, these mods will invoke oodles of nostalgia, a time machine back to the greatest era of a great championship, and let you live out your John Cleland, Alain Menu and Rickard Rydell fantasies.
For everyone else, get these downloaded, indulge in some of the most entertaining battles you'll have on AC, and look up some highlights on RUclips of the Super Touring era - forget Rose Tinted Glasses, it genuinely was as spectacular as we remember it being.
These mods have made AC my go-to sim when I'm not racing online. The cars are a little slow on 100 AI but with a bit of ballast I can even it out a bit. I'd love to find an online league for these cars!
Dutch understeer squad
DUS
The picture of Bill and Monica in the intro tho 😂🤣
NGL but this is really making me wanna get AC, especially as I can drive 'my' old Accord!
I remember the old btcc game, so fun and good
Apparently the mondeos drive shaft input were lower the the hub carrier input. Which is mental. F1 level engineering back then. I am 42 now so I grew up with these monsters.
Always has been & still is epic racing every time, BTCC should be standard in all driving games
I read the terrible news of you losing your wife, I'm so sorry and only a few can know what you're going through. Hope selfishly see you back all in good time, your videos and your knowledge and smooth voice is well missed. Only you can decide, wish you well. The SIM community.❤
I think this information is wrong. I saw a post on Reddit about this topic and under the post there is a reply from Chris denying this and explaining that he is just taking a break from sim-racing. I don't know if the account that responded is actually Chris's, but I really hope he's just taking a break.
@@emreozdemirgale that's definitely Chris Haye's account. :) Glad he's OK.
This is false. Chris has a new channel and is perusing other interests. His family are fine.
@@boostedmediaGlad to hear he’s alright, thanks Will. Terrible that people started rumours like that while he’s stepped away and not around to refute them.
Does he want us to know about his new channel and if so, where can we find it? The thing I enjoyed about Chris’ videos most was his ‘salt-of-the-earth’ personality and his incredible cinematography, so would love to watch whatever he’s pursuing now.
@@boostedmediaAll good and well but how about his following here? The ones who supported him for such a long time. No goodbye video, no explanation just nothing.. People who don’t know the situation are left with their own thoughts about what happened. No hate towards Chris.. but this could have been handled differently.
my fav car is and has always been James Thompson in that Honda Civic
I love the handling of the ac touring mods theirs a brilliant ngtc mod on r factor 2 I think its from 2020 to 2023 . As I'm away from my pc i can't remember the name of it
Hey, you okay?? I just was talking with a friend, and u came up. I started thinking, "I haven't heard or seen u in a while!!" So today I look and sure enough, you haven't posted a video in 6 months. You good??
Came here to ask the same
Not a trace of him, neither on the socials as far as I could see so I hope he's fine
The sim racing youtube biz is a tough one. I personally don't know where he's been but I can say from personal experience it's hard to make sim racing content creation lucrative enough to be worth the time & money investment. Very few people manage to make it work. It is legitimately a very time consuming and hard job so if it doesn't make enough money to quit your "day job," it eventually it runs it course. Sadly it's happened to many of us. I was really pulling for Chris and for a while it looked like he was going to pull it off, but being that he went radio silent 8 months ago, I'm fearing an all too familiar situation has happened to him. But it's not always the case. Many people use the connections they've made through sim racing to land real world motorsports jobs and I really hope that's what the situation is for Chris. He's a really genuine guy and deserves all the best. Here's to hoping we hear from him soon!
Im currently racing in a BTCC league on AC but we are using cars from the 96 season. im a drifter more than a racer but im enjoying the challenge of these cars and the courses.
How can I get involved in this?
I'm getting TOCA 2 vibes now. All that's needed are the Audi, the Alfa, the Laguna and the Peugeot 405. Oh yeah, and the Mazda Xedos 6. Do some privateer skins and this will be the perfect BTCC sim.
Long live the Super Tourers, that's what I say.
Volvo S40 for life
Literally :D
Cool video.
Better this than that expensive Rfactor 2 MSG related mess
This was the last era of touring cars worth watching. These and the australian group a touring cars.
🔥🔥🔥
I used to watch them growing up and it was intense racing and action. For me it was far more interesting than F1 because you know there's always going to be wheel to wheel action and a crash.
I worked as an engineer from 1997-1999 in the Australian Super Touring Series. The apex really was 1997 - after that a lot of manufacturers were not prepared to speed the money required to be competitive. I have an original paper copy of the FIA homologation papers for the Primera. Nissan spend more than 800,000 pound sterling developing the ROLLCAGE only. They paid Pectel to do the ignition management system, a British guy told me it cost over 1.2 million pounds to develop that, and it wasn't any good. Matt Neal's Mondeo had infinite amounts of cash thrown at it by his old man in an effort to win the Million Pound prize for an Independant Outright win (which they did) - the V6 was mounted a foot further back and something stupid like 8 inches lower than the factory cars. By 1999 everything was winding down and spares were running low as there was very little new investment. That's what killed it, the operating costs.
I really hope Patrik Marek will finish the BMW and the Volvo to 1.0 version. Its a long time since they are in their current state.
I Hope R4bbit G4ming Or JM69 Enter A BTCC Series In AC With This Mod
I want to join a series with these cars, just need to find a spare 10 bucks to get the mod 😅
If there is a decent series and if I can find some time, sure why not.
Why is this particular season of BTCC so beloved? I'm not from the UK so I'm totally clueless about it, except for the fact that TOCA on the PS1 was a very good game.
BTCC best fucking races I've ever seen.
For me the iconic BTCC car has to be the Volvo estate
Late 90's touring cars are nostalgic?! I must be old. They don't seem old to me! Don't worry Chris, AC2 will have mods. Doing away with movability would be a terrible financial decision for kunos and they're not that silly.
Love it
Delicious!!!!
Now, I wish these super talented mod creators could put the Dunlop bridge back at Donington where it belongs.
Hey, wanted to stop by and say hi and ask a question if you are fine with that. I’ve been looking at sim wheels so i can figure out what i want next. Right now I play on Xbox and I have a Logitech G293 with a Logitech G Shifter, and before that I had a Logitech G920 that ended up breaking. The main problem is…well, there are a lot of options and its difficult to figure out a good option for what wheel I would want to get. So I wanted to ask you if you could give any advice on a good simwheel setup that you would recommend. It doesn't matter what brand it is, I'm just looking for a sim wheel setup that is compatible with xbox and has good quality and a good aftermarket support (another thing would be the ability to swap wheels easily but thats not required.) If you could give me good advice on a good simwheel setup, i’d very much appreciate it, thank you.
Oh man... Remember the TOCA games from back in the day?
Club racing in Great Britain (and Ireland) deserves more modding focus as well as grassroots motorsport in general. Esepcially if someone mods that mad Fiat with DRS that appeared on 19Bozzy92's channel a while back
I'd love to see a mod of 90s Silverstone and Snetterton (especially Snet as I live 30 mins from it and marshal there)
I love the touring cars. My favourite would be the Renault, But as you say not really obtained via the usual trusted sites. Which really is a shame.
where is it from?
