Thank you for showing this! As a coastal Aussie it's rare for me to get out there so it's good to know what it's like when the water comes in. I have seen the Darling at Menindee but that's it.
wow you drove on a bitumen road. That was a dirt road some times graded goat track when I was there. [1967]. I have never seen so many pelicans together. A great video. Interesting shot of the mid air encounter with a pelican. It wasn’t that long ago that the Darling river was in flood.
Your drone would have come off second best if it hit that Pelican. They are a very solid bird. I have hit 2 in my aircraft and the first one did a heap of damage to the front cowling and the second bird hit my windscreen and nearly caved that in . Very scary.
I have a vague memory of Menindee lakes containing clear water - would have been in the late 70's - that may be a garbled memory..I wonder if anyone one else can back that up?
I have always seen the Menindee Lakes and the Darling River water as the colour of milky tea. Often when taking a photo, the lake water would look blue in the picture, due to reflection of the sky. I was born in 1955 and lived in Broken Hill in the sixties. So my comments are as a Broken Hillite who had occasional visits for swimming, camping and on a few occasions fishing.
Oh my!! So many pelicans!! Great footage, I'm headed there in August, can't wait... 🙌
It’s an amazing place!
Thanks for watching

G’day David.
The bitumen hasn’t long gone down between Pooncarie and Menindee.
It’s a massive improvement, makes it easier to dodge all the animals ;)
Very cool video. Thanks very much.
Thanks for watching

Wow, great to see. I flew over the lakes about 5 years ago and they were all empty except for one small lake.

It was great footage of that pelican . I wonder what was going through his mine when he saw your drone.
Yep, panicked for a second.
It’s only a little DJI Mini.
Would have ended up in the bottom of the lake for sure

@@tonyg2002Aust Thanks Tony.
Those pelicans must've come from far and wide
Well that bird footage was amazing. Dont bury the lead.
Thanks for watching Rod.
Yeh, I should of done a slo-mo of it
...and yet nobody knows, how the birds know, that there is water there? Seagulls?
if they banned cotton farming it would look like this every year
100%
If Queensland and nsw didn’t have a drought it wouldn’t look like that ones it rained it was fixed
😮😢totally right ban cotton farming
The water would flow out to sea and it would dry up if there's no rain.
Great for the climate alarmists
