I have that genetic disease. Not as serious as she has, but in my childhood I had to be more careful than the other kids. Now I live like everyone else, and I thank my parents everyday for making me a normal and aware person.
I tool that disease from my father, but we don’t know nothing more because my grandparents and uncles didn’t want to do the genetic test (an easy biopsy of a very small piece of skin).
I’m from Italy and every year we go to the hospital in Verona, where they study the osteogenesis imperfecta disease, and everytime I see many children showing a strenght that many normal people don’t have.
Yes, our lives are different and we live differently, but with faith and a little bit of creativity we can do whatever we want!

Edit: Just saw how many people said I already should have, and I was but I never thought about how many things I could've been born with. Just thinking about it terrifies me to how lucky I am.

Well, kids at that age are too young to understand that she was born like that. They can either have one of these two reactions to her:
1. They could bully and make fun of her
2. They could completely ignore her wheelchair

I fractured my hip back in March.. it hurt so bad I remember it a lot.. it hurt so so so much.. so I can’t even imagine how she feels.. I feel so bad.

It's pain tolerance; if you were having constant fractures since conception (even in the womb), you'd build a lot of pain tolerance toward bone fractures.

I stress fractured my spine in two places and sat with it for a year and a half before going to the doctor and two years after fracturing it (it isn't healed still) I'm still in so much pain, I could only imagine how much pain she is this. This beautiful, smart, little girl is so strong

I have a genetic disease called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome where I dislocate at least one joint every day and I still can't imagine breaking my bones every week. At least with dislocations, once they are back in you get some relief. With broken bones it lasts so much longer. I definitely have to respect this kid.

It is. My leg broke on my mom's arm while she picked me up from the bathroom. The sound was horrible. Even now as grown up I still have nightmares of the days when my legs broke. I hope I never have to go through that because it's horrible.

That little girl is an angel, because I’d be pissed at my parents if they allowed my to be born into this world knowing that I would break hundreds of bones through out my lifetime, knowing I’d never run in the grass barefoot and climbing mountains which I love to do so much.

As a mother, I would not knowingly have a child that would suffer this badly. I take so much pride in watching my now 21 month old, grow, learn, play and climb everything. I'd feel horrible, especially knowing how bad it hurts to have multiple broken bones, after a car accident, I could never let my child live like that if I could help it.

My nephew had this disease and died a few minutes after birth because his broken ribs stopped his lungs from growing. Jackson's body was donated to university research

I always hate seeing stories like this because I feel so bad for these children who have to endure this kind of life. :( My heart just goes out to them because I can't even imagine the pain and hurdles they have to deal with that other people take for granted or don't even think about... and yet, these kids get through it and seem to be in positive spirits despite everything. truly amazing.
