That's one reason, yes. Some are just that easily triggered. So, I used to teach elementary school and one day after school, I was walking in the hall and there were some kids in the school for after school tutoring. The school where I worked had a large Hispanic population. So while passing, I playfully said, "Hasta pasta". The is was a silly phrase I picked up from my brother who spoke Spanish fluently. Another teacher heard what I said and WENT OFF! She yelled at me for like 5 minutes IN FRONT OF THE STUDENTS! It's been a while so I can't remember exactly what she said, but I know it was completely inappropriate. I also remember the horrified and scared look on the kids' faces. My reaction was to do an "about face" step and go the other way. I don't know if it would have been better to respond, but I was very aware of the kids and I know I was shaking. I didn't go to the principal because I wouldn't have gotten the support I had desired. But to go off for 5 minutes in front of students because I said, "Hasta pasta!" (It means "Until pasta". It's obviously just a silly thing to say! I wonder how long the other teacher's tantrum would have lasted if I said, "See you tomorrow" but in Japanese! Lol

The whole "speak english" thing is wild to me. I'm Sudanese, moved to UK and Canada when i was very young so my english is great. However, i also speak my native tongue, french and arabic.
I often visit family in America and the grand majority of them are great, except one. Last year I was with my friends and cousins in Atlanta and my cousin and I were speaking French to make plans, some random lady got annoyed (god knows why) and told us to speak english and not and I quote: "Speak that African sh*t."
My cousin, myself and all of the mandem just BURST into laughter. Had tears at the corner of my eyes, bruv. This made her even more angry and when she finally found out that it was French (a EUROPEAN language) she got more red in the face. Then we swapped to Arabic and exaggerated it to piss her off more 😂💀.
