This is HEAVY. I'm all eyes for the full interview. Their impact to timeless music and message to the culture is a great reflection through this moment. BIG UP.
Still one of my favorite duos. Glad they're getting their flowers. Found out about Little Brother in college in 03, been a super fan ever since. 'The Minstrel Show' still gets rotation on the regular from me.
Okayplayer was originally a fan website for the Roots, then later on D'Angelo, Common, and Mos Def. They had message boards with different sections. Most of us just went to General Discussion aka GD, but LB was mostly in the Lesson (the music discussion section). That's also where Phonte met Nicolay and formed Foreign Exchange (IIRC). And yeah we were Black Twitter back in 1999/2000. You can thank us for birthing yall style HAHAHAHA
I've bought A LOT of Little Brother albums, 9th Wonder albums with Murs, Skyzoo, and Jean Grae, Phonte's albums, and Justus League mixtapes starting back in the early 2000s. I gotta say though Rapper Big Pooh's "Sleepers" is one of my favorite hip-hop albums that is often overlooked. "Every Block" with Phonte, "Just Friends, Scars, and The Jungle" were my favorite tracks on the album. Then Pooh dropped "Wooden Wall Silverware" on the "Fat Boy Fresh Vol. 1" album and I played the hell out of that song when I was stationed in Japan at the time. Pooh is probably my favorite out of Little Brother because the man knows what DOPE sounds like and it reflects in his music, particularly his earlier albums. Hell 9th, Phonte, and Pooh all make dope ass music! Little Brother has DEFINITELY without a doubt represented hip-hop since they emerged on the scene! Math and the fellas get MUCH RESPECT for having them on the show! 😏👍🏾 We need The Souls of Mischief/Hieroglyphics, Slum Village, Juicy J & DJ Paul, Willie D & Scarface, Lords of the Underground, and King Tee on the show in the future just to name a few.
Those early 2000s Hip Hop message boards had a lot of talent. UGHH, CageVSAlex, Eastern Conference, Okayplayer, D12World (Proof used to post there). I discovered Little Brother on Audio Galaxy, if anyone remembers that one.
Especially marriage. I was 23 and didn’t fully understand what I was getting into. Legally marriage has nothing to do with love it’s a contractual obligation.
Peace and Blessings to the Hoffa Gang for this interview....Thank you, thank you, thank you. Little Brother is one of my favorite all time groups. Peace to the Hall of Justus and Zo & Tigallo! That Zo and Tigallo Love the 80's was bloody f*cking brilliant with just the right amount of campiness.🔥🔥🔥
As if life couldn't get no better...them back together, them making MTLW, them making the doc, them ON MATH HOFFA, if dudes grace us with Zo and Tigallo Loves The NINETIES?!?!? Life would be complete. Period.
I remember buying their 12” of Whatever You Say on vinyl from Fat Beats LA on ABB Records. This was in 2002. The first time I saw them rock was at an ABB showcase they did with Dilated Peoples in 04. Dope LA Hip Hop memories.
I remember being at Amoeba records around that time. And it was posted that day "in store performance Little Brother". I had seen mentions of the album but had never heard anything so i kept going on my way. I wish i woulda stayed lol
Shoutout to Pooh and Phonte for calling out the hip hop forums. They were definitely black Twitter before black Twitter. I was apart of Spitkickers and Ill Community (AllHipHop) forums, so I appreciate the Shoutout.
It seems to me now that I've heard all these stories when it comes to the "major music industry"; it's NEVER designed for the artist to win the game. Nobody gets out alive and rich. All record company contracts are bogus asf and it's less than those who work at a regular shmegular job. No 401K, insurance, dental, medical, pension, etc.
Yeah it's designed for you to get taken advantage off. Music industry was run by gangster in thr old days and the contracts ain't much different. Doing right by folks is a pipe dream for most, almost a rite of passage for some.
I caught on to little brother real late like 2010 or 11... First few songs I was like this is like grown man hip-hop. These negroes are very relateable. And then when I heard curtain call my feelings were so hurt. I was really in my feelings. Upset that ya'll we're done. Then in 2019 I was in love again. Thank you all for coming back
These guys are the kings of ba j pack flows they brought in that wave in the year 2000 before Kanye west came to rocafella , love their lyrics and songs nostalgic great flows
I remember the registration day credit card sign-ups. Im that old 94 Coppin State College now University. I was like how are you approving us and we are broke college students? Thats how people were surviving and going on Spring Break in college.
@erykahhoney588, There was the Justus League and the Justice League so it's easy to understand why you thought that. I think a lot of ppl used to mix the two up back in the day too.
Ok! So, would "The Organization" they're talking about happen to be "The Justus League"??? I understand that there's legal implications and all that might not actually allow them to say that. But I'd really like to get confirmation on that for the record and edification.
To whoever is in charge of the previes thumbnails for these, I just thought you should know that the person you have in there is *NOT* the DJ Brainchild that is being discussed here. You grabbed some random other dude. Oops.
Just observation, but why it seem like when the corny knickers come on math, not there Meader and when the street battle rappers come on Mecca, not there in math is there hmmmm
Do ya GOOGLES!!! Lol Little Brother is their name. Dope hip hop group that been on since 2001, broke up and recently got back together back in 2018 and out a new album just as good as their old material. Check out the listening, the minstrel show, and their latest album May the Lord Watch. They also recently dropped a documentary of the same name, May the Lord Watch, that's free to watch on RUclips.
So dope to see them get their flowers on a national platform. Shout out to Math and the crew. This one means a lot coming from the Carolinas. 💯💯
Absolutely. Well said and great comment. Props are long overdue here.

I went into a Circuit City in 2005 looking for new music and stumbled across The Minstrel Show. Life changing moment
Circuit city 🤣🤣🤣 I went before they closed down
Minstrel show & The listening are classics. These two brothers and 9th will always be appreciated.
Two of the best records of all time...from beginning to end!
The Listening is forever my favorite album of Little Brother
Having Little Brother on was a treat. Folks don't normally get that many interviews with these guys.
This is HEAVY. I'm all eyes for the full interview. Their impact to timeless music and message to the culture is a great reflection through this moment. BIG UP.
One of my favorite groups man! Salute math for this one
Big shout to the channel for this interview!!!

Facts! I was on there and was there for their tragic online fallout. Discussion Boards were the podcasts of the early 2000s.

This definitely the interview right here!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 BIG SHOUT OUT TO LITTLE BROTHER!!!!
Wow. Bringing out Little Brother. Shout out to you Math.
Drake talks about how Little Brother sparked his rapping and singing style.
Those songs had OKP going nuts back in 02, that’s how I learned about LB and been a huge fan ever since.
Phonté TOP 5 D.O.A

HiphopDX was another one...
Miss those days! Like a time warp reminiscing about all these old sites.
I could've connected that Black Star "Little Brother" track with their name. It makes perfect sense.
10:05--- That can apply to so many things. Not just the music business. Marriage. buying house. That was a bar.
Especially marriage. I was 23 and didn’t fully understand what I was getting into. Legally marriage has nothing to do with love it’s a contractual obligation.
Thanks Math for having my favorite group
