DESPITE her long curly tail and excellent climbing skills, this animal is neither a monkey or a lemur. Stella from Florida, USA is a kinkajou, a rainforest mammal native to Central and South America. This exotic animal may not be your first choice for a pet, however it was for Justin and Samantha Powell.

Amazon animals being sold as pets? As a brazilian, I never heard it could be legal, tbh, it's a crime here to have those types of animals as pets, kinda weird animals from here being sold to other countries. Anyways, she is adorable.
No one cares about Brazil
@@kylianvanhoorn2859 so their ancestors were snatched from the amazon.. and because current generations are born in US or any other western country it makes them citizens of that country and legal to be pets? Sounds a bit too familiar.. white people really do think they have privilege to take what they want..
The illegal pet trade is huge. Sad because they should stay in the wild I guess, but with habitat loss and poaching for pelts/meat, many animals are verging on extinction. Sometimes, if one has plenty of room, a proper enclosure, and the time, money and patience to care for them properly, raising them may be useful in ensuring their existence especially if a breeding program is available.
@@xydroGies If the animals have been bred in captivity for a hundred years, they are domesticated like the Russian foxes. They could not live in the wild because they have neither the skills or the temperament to survive.
Maybe it's illegal in YOUR country.
KINKAJOU I CHOOSE YOU

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Don't piss it off or it will use its razor claw attack😂
@2:15 was awesome how she balances
I definitely want to see a kinkajou one day!
I see one every night. It feeds from our banana stash outside the house. They are so cute.
Very cute! I do not think I could handle one myself. But they are lovely.
I don't know how I could live with a purely nocturnal animal like this. Seems like it would wake you up quite a bit
They seem to be more suited for night owls I’d suppose.
When I was a teenager I had a chinchilla, which is nocturnal, but we would snuggle late night and early morning. ❤️
Just do it like all these people do in these videos, own a nocturnal animal; bring it out all day long with you, and then wonder why it's acting crazy. You know. Like a human would do. JK
They call her a pest? She’s supposed to live in the wild
No
girl writes: please read my comment a few up from yours x zed
No, is not. She will die.
She's so pampered. She looks very happy and well-loved
Kinkajou's are adorable and look very simular to our Australian Brush Tail possums , although the tail isn't hairy like our Brushy's the body shape and face look simular and even its nocturnal life and its love of sweet fruit is simular .
My high school baseball coach used to yell "bright eyed and bushy tail!" when we ran out to the field lol
i came here after watching Vivo the Movie
They’re super cute. Pls take care of them.
Yep My family has a small animal sanctuary. We saved a baby kinkajou from a penitential animal hoarder. She’s sweet but she’s a handful. Locks on everything lol
I think they would be perfect for an older person, without many other responsibilities ❣️
U have my dream life. Consider yourself extremely lucky.
Penitential? Potential?
Lol he called her a he🤣🤣🤣
They are get him when he was 3 weeks old... Wth??? He should be with his mommy....
Many exotics are hand raised to make them tame.
Haha yeah, they are taken from their mothers at a young age to become pets.
girl writes: should be in a huge area enclosure with outside and inside and with his family!!!
@@user-zw4ll9hv4h these animals are captive bred
@@rhys896 These animals are different than monkeys and are more closely related to dogs and racoons than monkeys. They have certain mannerisms like monkey and that's why people like to keep them but they thrive in human captivity. They aren't easy to take care of per se but compared to primates they are much easier and can get very attached to their owners. Just because they happen to look like monkeys doesn't mean they are and not every exotic animal does horrible in captivity. Kinkajous are good pets for those dedicated to taking care of them and you'll find few people bashing on them as pets like they do with monkeys. Please do your research about them before commenting
With egg eating snakes, some people lie and say they were captive bred but aren't, so it might be the same for the kinkajou. They belong in the wild.
They are extremely cute. But do not buy this animal for your kid. They are a handful and like to fight which is sometimes very painful. Cute is an understatement, I looovvvee mine!!!
Where did you get yours? :)
(Asking for myself, and solely myself haha)
you shouldnt buy them as pets at all
Breeders if you must. But they're illegal in many states and countries.
they also live a few decades, that's more than a childhood commitment.
The cute ones always have an evil streak 😂
I have a farm here in Belize and it has a lot of those cutties since its a nice rain forest patch... but there are endangered since a lot of Guatemalans like to eat them. They howl at night. If you don't know it's them you'd be scared bad. They really love wild fruits.
They are not endangered. The IUCN (the international body which decides what conservation a species has) lists them as "least concern", which is the best rating a species can have. They are not threatened at all.
@@Aethuviel What if... the are endangered in Guatemala?
Karko is endangered on Bonaire and Curaçao. So I can no longer eat them, however they are plentiful on other islands where they are not traditionally eaten. So I know it depends on location.
They are not endangered
OMG YOU EAT THEM!!!!!!!
@@beverlykiszenia6669 Look at his picture, he looks like he consumes human flesh as well.
So much love in this family, I hope they are doing well 💕🌻
It’s Vivo!
Ikrr
0:26 never give up!!
Oh hey vivo
I held a kinkajou at a zoo once and it was licking me and playing with my hair and I've fell in love ever since
"Kinkajous don't wear no shoes, Kinkajous don't catch the flu. Kinkajous are not your average jous!"
i heard they can release strong scents from their glands. can't be trained, and prefer night time, im assuming its de scented some how
No animal smells worse than humans do when they haven't showered for 3 days.
Idk about these, but skunks can be de glanded.
I'm also coming from also watching Vivo (loved it and I'm obsessed with it), but I was scrolling through the comments of other people calling the family hurtful and gross for even owning a kinkajou. Just leave them alone. It's their life and if they know what they're doing, they have every right to own the kinkajou. And might be saying "its still illegal to own one", if they have the correct the license, they can own one.
Legend
Ya, if the owner do more research to pet it I agree. But many owners never give them a good care
This animal looks happy and healthy. She'll never have to worry about predators or finding food like a wild Kinkajou. She was captive bred and not taken from the wild, and even if you were to argue that at some point in time wild Kinkajous had to be captured in order to have captive bred ones, the same applies from any pet. Hamsters, parakeets, goldfish, you name it.
If the caretakers are responsible and the animal is happy and healthy, nobody has the right to attack them for it.
I'm sure most people look after animals like this very well but I think it's wrong to have them as pets.
Why? Higher survival rate and most of them that are well taken care of seem pretty happy.
I mean there isn't much difference in marriage and being a pet. :P
My dads from brazil and i really like these animals definitely my dream pet
You cant have them here as pets, it is a crime.
Funny little creature!
If being a caring person towards animals is crazy then I will never want to be sane.
Love 💕 this video...thank you very much family...❤❤❤❤
He wasnt ready.
Looks like a pokemon 😂
How did you find her harness? Is it a ferret harness? I am looking for one for my little guy.
she is looking like she would be hyper at night when she is awake
Zach Foody
Pretty much, nocturnal creatures
Bk Jeong yep
Beautiful
THAT IS TOTALLY MY SPIRIT ANIMAL I kid you not
mmmmmhhhhmmmm... so these kinkajou don't sing or dance, eh? 🤔🤔🤔
Lmao
What type of dog is this?
Well, it is a member of Caniforma. So it's relatively closely related to dogs. Or rather, it's much more closely related to dogs than it is to monkeys.
r/woosh
@Wolfie Inu, specifically, the Kinkajou (Potos flavus) is a member of the Nasuidae family, which is surprisingly the same family that includes the coatis, olingos, and olinguito and which includes the extinct genera Tetraprothomo, Parahyaenodon, Brachynasua, Pachynasua, Amphinasua, Cynonasua, and Chapalmalania, this family of carnivorans happens to be a unique collection of South American mammalian oddities similar to the living xenarthrans, new world cavy-like rodents, and new world monkeys and the extinct meridiungulates and sparassodonts all of which have colonized South America before the great american interchange.
I live in Costa Rica and an adult kinkajou comes every night to ''steal'' from our banana stash outside the house. Yesterday I was outside and it came to feed itself litterally two feet away from me. I ignored if they were very social or not with humans but after seeing this video they definatly are.
She's Beautiful
SO CUUTEEE!!!
omg its adorable
VERY CUTE
What r u doing owning a rainforest pet? Seriously??? Why are they even being sold??
Couldn't agree more.. :(
You simply can't have amazon animals. I wish people knew they come out of here illegally.
I saw this animal featured on an episode of a show called *Wild Kratts* ; saying that it is a "pollinator" that likes to suck the nectar from flowers, which is why it has such long skinny tongue to get into the flowers to eat. :)
they also have that tongue to get honey out of hives.
PBS
I feel so bad for any animal that are exposed to children
Well ideally the parents can teach their children to be very gentle, patient and kind towards animals. It's not impossible! I wish I grew up around animals
There not all that bad
Yeah except this kid in the video almost slapped the newborn kinkajou, when Samantha held it in his face to kiss him; then they were outside (maybe a few months later it looks like), and he almost poked it in the eye, and/or got his finger bit. Kids and the owners of the animal require more training than the actual animals, majority of the time.
Now that is ADORABLE 😍
Man! VSCode in Dracula stlye?! Man of my culture!
These are not good pets, please do not get one. Once they hit sexual maturity they attack and can do some real harm.
Breeders sell these animals as household pets and then once they become a certain age most of those "pets" are given to rescues because of their attacks.
If you'd like a household exotic please consider a ball python or a hedge hog.
As you can see even in this video the animal is only showed at an younger age.
They are very cute but truly not meant to be a pet.
Dogs and cats weren't meant to be pets.
@@whitecat6254 Yes, but they've been bred for hundreds or thousands of years to be not wild.
Oh dear God Karla, you can have them spayed/neutered. Guess you are just spouting off without having the truth?
So this is where kinkajou got her name from
Aww! I'm in love!! 😍
Are they litter trained?
Do they play aggressively? I have pet raccoons, been taking care of them for few months. They play very aggressive with each other and sometimes may bite my feet.
One of these or a Sugar Glider?
Which is cuter and which one should I buy?
Actually, kinkajou's are technically classified as carnivores. Shout out to SciShow for the info.
Uhh no they are omnivores. You may be confused because they are part of the order carnivora, but that has nothing to do with diet, regardless of what the name sounds like. The order Carnivora consists of a massive range of animals, from cats, to seals, to red pandas and the kinkajou - some are carnivores, some are herbivores and some omnivores
@@Nomin130 no they are classified as carnivores , they are even called "the world's worst carnivore" believe it or not
@@jujasname thats because they can eat meat, but almost never do. If a human ate only meat, you could call them the worlds worst herbivore, even though we are technically omnivores as we are capable of digesting both plants and animals.
When you try be smart but you're wrong...
@@rhys896 They are classified under the order Carnivora. I understand they are not actually true carnivores. Still, it is an interesting fact to point out. At least I think it is.
I miss happiness
Have you ever given her bamboo I have a Kinkajou/Honey bear & lately he wants to chew on card board if there is any in the house he will find it Someone told me since he is connected to the red panda Mayne he needs some bamboo to chew on. So do you or have you ever given bamboo to your girl??
i just watched this last night on another channel
Nocturnal pets shouldn't even be sold as pets in my opinion, but yes they are adorable. I can see the desire to own one.
There used to be a lot of parrots in the wild. Then ppl in rich countries wanted them as pets. Ppl in poor countries started catching them carelessly and their numbers plumetted. These folks may have bought from a responsible breeder, if such a thing exists for kinkajous, but many ppl won't. Let's have the humility to choose pets that are plentiful, like dogs and cats. The kinkajou in this video will never breed in the wild. It is dead to it's native population. All the offspring it might have had will never exist.
People leave a comment like this then go get abortions
Dude have you even google searched about kinkajous? The first thing I did when I learned about these things was search their population numbers to see if they're endangered or not. They're listed as least concern, meaning there's plentiful in the wild. Parrots might be endangered, but these guys aren't.
Kinkajous are cute. And many people buy them from breeders.
@@discojohn8753 so true. They’re like “ah yes this is a living thing that is important but a living human in my womb, nah.”
Amazonian animals CANT be sold. It is a CRIME. They go out of here illegally. So no, it is not a random thing.
Какой милый!
It's a movie!
You should feed her some honey kinkajous love honey
That's where they are also referred to as honey bears

@1.10 wth the hell? "Spit in my mouth"
its not cute to buy wild animals..
Agreed.
Wondering if anyone who has firsthand experience with this species may have seen the recent CGI animated movie, ‘Vivo’- which stars a kinkajou as the title character? - if so, any thoughts on the film’s portrayal?
Hey! Do u know vivo is a kinkajou!

I'm pretty sure this family has to be up during the night and sleep during the Day.

Blake's Exotic Animal Ranch I thought they were Completely Noctural...

As long as people remain committed to caring for the critters why not? Better that than for a species that CAN adapt to not do and to become endangered or extinct.
What is their life expectancy ?.
Saw it says 20-40 years in captivity.
How do go bout them using the bathroom so to speak
1.) Stella was NOT taken from the wild. She was captive bred in the US specially to be a pet. Kinkajous have been bred for decades in the US specifvally to be pets, just like sugar gliders or hedgehogs. It's near impossible to smuggle mammals in the US anyways, with our rigorous airport security.
2.) It is not abusive to own exotic pets, provided to care for them correctly of course.... Does Stella look unhappy to you?
3.) Kinkajous are NOT for everyone, do your research before getting one. This goes for ANY animal.
4.) Stella is not a wild animal nor does she belong in the wild.
I'd recommend anyone skeptical to read the article "10 Myths About Exotic Pet Ownership" pethelpful.com/exotic-pets/exotic-pet-myths or to join the growing exotic pet community to REALLY see how we love and care for our pets, instead of reading articles that lie about us and misrepresent us, and which are written by people who hate us.
I will also answer any questions, about pet kinkajous or exotic pets as a whole, as I wholeheartedly support responsible exotic pet ownership, as well as Stella and her amazing owners.
Red Jemmy Thank you so much.
With the millions of cats and dogs in shelters, do people really need exotic pets?
Chicvibe, I totally understand where you're coming from.
But exotic pet owners got the animal of their choice because they really wanted it. If they wanted a dog or a cat, they'd obviously have gotten one of those instead. And most exotic owners buy their animal for a reason. Using myself as an example: I own a mountain coatimundi. I also own 5 shelter dogs and 2 shelter cats. Me choosing to buy a coatimundi over another shelter dog isn't contributing to the problem, because regardless of whether or not I could buy the coati, I still wouldn't choose to get another dog in its place. And I'm sure other exotic owners feel similarly to me. If that makes any sense?
Exotic pets aren't the cause of our homeless dog and cat crisis; irresponsible ownership is. To stop the problem you must seek out the root. Educating people about responsible ownership of animals, both domestic and exotic, is the solution. :)
chicvibe1 Do people need dogs or cats?
Go adopt 2,000 of each. Then you'll be on your way to saving the world
There is a very dark side to the exotic pet trade and unfortunately a person supports that when they buy an exotic pet, even if it's from the "good guys". The same as puppy mills. If I buy a puppy from a responsible breeder I am inadvertently supporting puppy mills. If every person decided to only adopt from shelters, then the need for puppies would be eliminated and dog breeders would go out of business, the "good" ones and the "bad" ones. Same goes for the exotic pet trade.
0:55 yup thats a weiner
Sylvester Stallone brought me here
Adorable! They are still cute! Possibley cuter than a red racoon and that's sayin' something, but at least as cute. I would love to have an exotic pet, but I live in California. Can't even have a domesticated ferret here! Can't feed wild animals, etc. One can find oneself in jail for that plus whopping fines. Pooo! I'd love to raise a squirrel. I grew up in Arizona and raised a ground squirrel when I was 13 or 14. Rewarding.
Hey it’s me!

Aww, it’s cute a crap
I Think I’ll need to buy two!! I love exotic pets 😍😍😍
Wow, that comment kinda sounds like... the WORST possible candidate for someone to buy exotic animals! No offense. Just observing. Lol
How do you know they can not support them?
He is so cute i just want to hug him.
What do you use for shampoo and how often?
I’ve always wanted one and name it pichu ever since 3rd grade I found this animal out when doing reports and I adored one for ever I’m 20 now and really wanna buy one

less to worry for if i have kids in the future by far!! never heard of a temperamental keeshond ever at all...
I looooooooooooove him you guys are sooooooooooooo lucky
It's not a good idea to have a kinkajou as a pet they can be dangerous
Quincy Gagnon how so?
Gallo Gallito because they have sharp claws and teeth plus wild animals remain wild not being able to tame
Gallo Gallito just because they are cute does not mean they are harmless
@@quincygagnon8727 My dogs too have sharp teeth and claws. it's really not more dangersous than a cat
@@quincygagnon8727 it also can carry a ringworm which is fatal to humans BUT if you get one from a breeder 99 out of 100 times they wont have it and normally the ringworm withers away.
Bought a 3 week old from a breeder when you had a young baby? What in the yeehaw trailer park? Wife needed proper ppd care to start…
my dog would be a fruitivore if I let him, he loves bananas and apples
First of all it's FRUGivore not fruITivore and secondly that's not what frugivore mean's and the definition that the dictionary gives for fruigivore has no basis in biology whatsoever. Infact if people weren't so close minded and abysmally ignorant they would know that they are also. frugivores https//ruclips.net/video/Zk5DHxxo1Ao/видео.html Human's like to live in a fantacy world that there beyond nature so instead of them defining frugivore as a fruit eater they define it as an omnivore that likes fruit.
