A practicable overview with guidance and advise of applying Māori Data Sovereignty principles and Te Tiriti o Waitangi to research.
The intended audience are those who have attended the previous Māori Data Sovereignty seminars or at least have a basic understanding of rangatiratanga and Te Tiriti.
The session will explain in more depth what is a taonga, whakapapa and how legal instruments apply in relation to digital data and day to day operations.
Why is Māori Data a Taonga and how can you as researchers protect that taonga and understand that it is not just binary, but a spiritual connection from a Te Ao Māori perspective, thus forming more trust with Māori, hapū, iwi and Māori groups.
Real life examples and solutions with suggestions to modify policies and practices will be offered that can be applied in both a corporate and academic environments.
