It's not often that you hear a band who have bits that sound like they could be on a Meshuggah album, bits that could be on a The Weeknd album, bits that could be on a Dream Theater album, bits that could be on a Marillion album... and it still all sounds like parts of a cohesive whole. Brilliant album.
as a Drummer im also a big fan of this drumming style. It is very unique, basically dancing right along the line of perfect pocket and overplaying in some cases. That is pure genious to me
@@JimNewstead i can assure you it is not. Of course some parts are programmed, for the "trap beat" like parts in some Songs but the Drummer "II" actually plays most of the electronic parts on an electronic drumpad and everything else is pure drumming on a very beautiful DW kit. He is one monster of a drummer (and i certainly wont spoil who he really is :D ) and when they play live he actually goes even more crazy
There's some videos of the drummer playing some of the older songs solo - like this ruclips.net/video/TAkpofWA3Ak/видео.html He's absolutely ridiculous.
@@JimNewstead The band has a religious cult aesthetic which they use for storytelling and theatrics, and they've included the phrase in multiple of their social media posts and also in merchandise. Seeing this, a lot of the fans adopted it and started using it as a calling card - essentially, it signals that whoever's saying it is a fan!
If it was possible to wear out FLAC files, I'd say I've almost worn out the files for this album. Glad to see you enjoying it as well (the best bits are yet to come).
Not sure if it's been mentioned but the singer Vessel, does all the instruments that you hear on the album except for drums, which are performed by Vessel II.
It took me a few listens to get used to his tone, some people say it sounds like he has peanut butter in his mouth? Lol…he definitely can sing though! It grew on me…sometimes it sounds a little more lax and breathy…especially on they’re older albums…He pretty much sounds the same live from what I’ve seen from live videos…but I do believe there is some effect on his voice on the album…I had the thought that perhaps he was trying to change up his singing style a little to help conceal his singing voice from his previous band to help keep it a secret?
Ps I'm pretty sure that the runes or symbols on the front spell out "take me back to eden" you had mentioned in pt 1 that there is not album title on the art covor. But I'm pretty sure that what that is. they line up
Hum? What to think? Thanks for doing this, I'd heard of them but not listened. Parts sound like Meshuggah, parts sound like Haken but not as technical, parts sound like 90s electronic pop and large parts sound like Leprous at various points in their discography. Do I like it? Sort of. Do I need it? Not really especially since I have and love all Leprous. Do I want it? Part of me does but using my usual criteria, no, in many ways I already have it. What to do? For now, I'll leave it, which usually means after a few more listens I won't get it, we'll see. For now Leprous scratches just too many of the same itches but it is interesting. I may get it if I feel like new music and there's nothing else I haven't already got. What chances are there that that will happen, very unlikely but I'll listen again and keep it at the back of my mind. Good but not exceptional I'd say, which probably means I'll end up not getting it. Hum? Had another listen this morning and yeh, no, I won't be getting this one. Just not quite my bag, a bit too poppy.
Do you like all the genres they mix individually? The appeal for me is hearing all the different types of music I enjoy expertly mixed into a single album. But its fine if you don't like things a lot of other people do. There's a lot of famous metal bands I'm just not that into.
I think this is touching on why I can't get into them. They straddle far too many genres at once for my taste. Some of the heavy stuff sounds great, but the pop and R&B style stuff doesn't work for me.
Good evening Jim, I’m a fan of Depeche Mode since they started as a band. I like the dark sounds they produce. The vocal style is very similar to a lot of the rubbish you hear on mainstream radio. I’m not a fan either. Growling 🤢, I liked them until now. Can’t listen to this. I put them in post-rock genre but Wikipedia puts them within post-metal. I don’t think the difference between those genres is quit fluid. Alternative metal is named also. Don’t like this side that much. Sounds too mainstream and I hate growling. I prefer the first side of this album. Would I buy it? No, I don’t like the album enough.
I don’t necessarily like growling either, but screams itch a spot in my brain, all the anger and intensity, hits the emotions hard, funny though because the heavy parts in this album are my favorite, while the softer parts are kinda meh, too mainstream pop sounding and for my liking, but i definitely think this band is awesome for bringing together these different genres, i think genre fluency might become a lot more popular with new music
I don't like his vocals either. That combined with the genre hopping will keep them out of my regular rotation. They have a couple songs I've liked, the others I can do without.
I think I can see why people wouldn't like it. It's got a kind of drawl to it that might not be appealing to everyone. But I think he's got a great theatrical sound that works really well for the songs on this album especially. Some of the subject matter covered and the way the songs are performed are married well to his voice and the way he includes a lot of breathing sounds and things into the recording. I'm a little bit biased though because whilst I can't sing anywhere near as well, if I do sing I tend to sing in a similar style because my range is a bit lower so it's easier :P

Ascensionism is my favourite song of the album. It all works so well together.
My too + Granite
What genre is Sleep Token?
Yes.
as a Drummer im also a big fan of this drumming style. It is very unique, basically dancing right along the line of perfect pocket and overplaying in some cases. That is pure genious to me
It sounds programmed to me, and there are a lot of loops used too. But they sound great!

They're a truly genreless experience, and exceptionally so! Worship.
So.... why worship? I've seen it pop up several times in relation to these vids.

Loving the mix of acoustic piano and synths. So many hooks and melodies throught the tracks. Its absolutely quality! 🤘
I'm enjoying theses videos nice job
@6:26 - Your reaction! The album has some lights and darks!!
What a track Acensionism is!🤘🤘🤘🤘
Just couldn't wait could ya 😂
New subscriber! Great reactions! Can't wait for the rest of the album!
Snow Patrol or Athlete, yes! 😅

there's only 6 songs on the whole vinyl record?
2 discs
12 songs - two more side of music to come yet.
@@JimNewstead Can't wait for the next video!
I did not like some of the singing at first, but it becomes a part of the song after a while. It would now not sound right if it was sung differently.
Yeah it definitely isn’t them 😂 I know who they are but I won’t say out of respect for the band and fans 🖤
I don't get the sleep token hype . It's great if others enjoy it, but I'm just not hearing what others obviously are.
Music is subjective, is for every taste regards!!!
@Shikworld of course it is. If people enjoy it great! I just don't understand it and trying to understand it.

Not a fan, too many musical cliches and I can imagine this getting boring very quickly. Fantano called this one right.
