There are three songs ever written that I avoid because of the emotional impact they have on me and this is one of them. I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've listened to Levitate because it has such a deep and painful personal meaning to me that I can't get through it without falling apart. Before the band blew up earlier this year, the fanbase was small but extremely passionate and it got me to thinking about what commonality exists between us that allows us to form such a connection with the music and the band. The only conclusion I can come to is that Sleep Token fans are capable of so much emotion. We feel so deeply that it's impossible for us to not connect with everything from the lyrics to the choices in key and chord progression. I have no idea if there's any truth to it or not, but I view it as a badge of honor. As much as this song and others in their catalog break me, I wouldn't trade my ability to feel the music at such a deep, core level for anything. That, to me, is what makes them different from other bands. I've been a Slipknot fan for more than two decades now and it's because Corey's lyrics have always connected with me on that level. When I discovered Sleep Token and Vessel, it was like finding someone who was capable of communicating the many emotions inside me that I always believed were impossible to put into words. What a friggin gift that is, man. I don't even care if I'm right or wrong. I'll forever be indebted for what this music has done for me and my life. It sounds extreme, but these are more than songs in my world and I'm so grateful to have them.
I can completely understand why, this one took me off guard. I started to get into a strange headspace and started yammering crap about myself 😂 it is amazing how some songs just hit different. You are right about ST fans, I have been talking to quite a few through these comments and I really appreciate how emotionally mature most of you are. I was scared to post the more emotional reactions because of the backlash I though it would get, but you all have been amazing! I am also a Slipknot fan, have always loved Corey and the guys! I'm not sure if you've checked out the solo album he released last month but it's killer. There are some very Stone Sour-esque tracks on it. I doubt we'll see them get back together for another album (never say never, I guess), but his recent solo stuff is a very worthy substitute. Dead Flies, in particular, is an earworm for me. Such a catchy chorus.

I feel like I'm making a big mistake watching this reaction after a long day at work. All I can say is. It's amazing that there are bands and people in general like Sleep Token and Vessel who are able to take the absolute emotional burden of putting their souls on a platter for all of us who aren't able to express our deepest feelings in such ways. I'll be forever thankful for ST and people like that. I remember when I was writing a poem to say at my mum's funeral and I had to take a break every 4 four words or so. In the past I did not have the language to describe the way I felt. My wife literally gave me that language. And sleep token has given me new feelings to describe. These songs have that effect of brain breaking, I don't quite know how to describe it.
